Update*** On Friday I was finally able to get over to pick up some onions for my family. While I was there I learned that they are putting out new bins of onions at 9 am on Monday, Tuesday, Thrusday and Friday. They said on most days they are picked over and gone by noon, so it is best to get there early. On Wednesday they feed over 200 people a hot meal, so they do not put them out that day. As a way to try to cut down on traffic. It sounds like the Oasis center is really trying hard to give back and help those in need. This would be a great place to offer some of great coupons deals, if you are looking for a place to give back.
Crookham Company is a wonderful local company that puts out onions for the community to take for FREE. I have enjoyed free onions for the last 6 years since I found out about this. Today was the first day they put them out, they have 8 large wooden bins filled with onions. ( when I went today they were rather picked over and many of the bins were already empty) Many of them are odd shaped or cut, so you have to sort thru the bins. But there are lots of really really nice onions as well. I called and they said they will put new bins out every other day….till they run out. In years past they have had them there for 2-4 weeks. But each year is different so I do not know how long they will last. Today was the first day they put them out.
You can find the bins in Caldwell at the Oasis Church parking lot on the corner of 13th and Fillmore.
You will need to bring a bag or a box to put them in. I keep mine in a shallow box in the garage all winter, and they keep till spring. I get one box of big ones, for soups. I go ahead a get a box of small ones too, they are great for recipes that only require a small amount of onion. They put out yellow onion for the most part, but will randomly put out bins of red and white.
Remember they will fill the bins every other day…so take what your family will use. But leave enough for others too!

Thanks for the tip!! Went over and got a big box this morning. I’m planning on sharing with other family members and freezing a bunch.
Do you know if they fill the onions on Sat?
I slice my onions, dry them on a dehydrator and after they are dry I chop them in my food processor. They are great in anything. You can also put them into a coffee grinder after they are dry and make onion powder.
I got some today! Thanks! They also had purple.
JJ I do not know….I am going to check in the morning and hope I get lucky
Do you know what time they set them out? In the morning? Afternoon?
Whenever I get a large amount of onions, I usually dice and slice them, put them in freezer bags, and stick them in the freezer. I use them for roasts, soups/stews, hotdishes, etc. If they diced ones get stuck together, I just hit the bag on the counter and it frees them up. Make some time, and save some time!
