59 ways to use your twice the value coupons at Albertsons

05/21/2011 8:34 pm · 24 comments

In the Sunday paper you should find a single page Albertsons ad, you will find twice the value coupons!

  • You can use 3 twice the value (double coupons) per family per shopping trip per transaction.  Ask your local store how many transactions they will let you do…. each store will vary a bit on this issue.
  • They will double any coupon up to the value of $1.00 making that coupon twice its value.  SO if you use a .75 cent coupon it will double up to $1.50 or if you use a $1.00 coupon it will double to $2.00.
  • They will not double a coupon for $1.01 or more.
  • You do have to pay sales tax on the full sales price of the item, before coupons.
  • You can NOT get overage from using a twice the value coupon, so if your item is $1.79 and you have a $1.00 MFR coupon they will only double it up to the $1.79 making the item free… but NOT allowing overage.
  • Albertsons will now allow  you to use coupons that say Do Not Double with a twice the value coupon…..Great News!!!
  • Albertsons double or ” twice the value” coupons, are normally found in the Sunday ad that comes in the paper.  They DO NOT come every week, and normally only last 3 days.  They can also be found in your store, by asking a manager, customer service or cashier.

People have been couponing long before the show came out. I learned from my dad how to use them to maximize your weekly food bill. I think its funny how many people are whining about how people clear the shelves using coupons. I went last week to albertons and two items that I went for were cleared out but instead of going home and whining and moaning over the people who got to them before me I went and talked to the food manager and he gave me a substitute that more then made up them not having it. Even tho it was a different product he still let me use the coupons I had for the other product. Maybe instead of complaining do something about it

Okay so this whole albertsons thing has me soo confused.. first of all do stores know that they get reimbursed for coupons plus 8cents each? so why are they changing policies? i hope frys doesnt b/c thats where i go.. okay my second quesion is where are these double coupons at?? i looked in the add in the sun paper and didnt see them..will the be in wednesdays??

berkeley May 23, 2011 at 10:13 am

Just a thought…..If Albertson’s does change their policy to only 3 doublers per day, then you won’t be able to go to another store that same day and use them either, because the manager/cashier I had yesterday told me that the doublers won’t work unless they scan your preferred card. Correct me if I’m wrong, but that tells me they are keeping track and some sort of red flag will come up if you try to “outsmart” them.

maria May 23, 2011 at 10:04 am

i was angry last friday, i went to Alb. to check on the Ronzoni pasta, they have peeled ALL the coupons on the boxes. HOW SAD!!!!!!

heidi May 23, 2011 at 7:51 am

AMEN! I am sick of going to the store and not finding anything anymore. NO HOARDNG PLEASE! At most I take 6 of one item, because I only get 6 papers with my sunday paper coupon special. I don’t consider that hoarding. BTW… who needs 100 bottles of tums anyway? TLC’s show does need to go AWAY. :)

Christy May 22, 2011 at 9:22 pm

Sadie – Thank you for the offer hun, but if you were one of the ladies, and you only had a “few deals” – then it wasn’t you, because a “few deals” wouldn’t have lead to a HEAPING cart full. I’m serious ladies, the women in Alberston’s today looked like they were trying out for the ridiculous TLC episode! I’m not sure about all of you, but TLC – please go away!!! You are giving people the WRONG IDEA about couponing, the show isn’t real. I didn’t stick around to see if these ladies were able to actually buy all of this product, but if the cashier stuck to the policy of 3 per transaction, and 3 transactions before you have to leave, place your items in your car and then get back in line again, I’m not sure. (And, I only know this policy because it is posted – I have never even tried more than 2 transactions because my guilt of holding up the line gets the best of me!) I will try again tomorrow and see if I can score a couple boxes of free pasta. But if anyone reads this and doesn’t slightly agree with what I’m saying, then it is you that is putting TOO much in your cart and you should think twice, or maybe go on a Hoarders show to help you out with your problem.

sadie May 22, 2011 at 6:53 pm

Christy:

I think I may be one of the ladies you were talking about. I am sorry you had a bad experience this morning. I agree that clearing shelves is not cool. Just for the record I did not clear the shelf of anything and I did not get more that 4 of any one item. It does not take much to fill a cart when you are getting many different “deals”. Next time if there is something in my cart that you were unable to find on the shelf, I would be more than happy to share with you. It really bothers me that you think I am greedy and self-rightous. I do everything I can to help out my fellow couponers, from sharing coupons to sharing good deals. You do NOT know what type of person I am sorry you are so quick to judge.

Alicia May 22, 2011 at 6:10 pm

Heidi-I to am like you. Thankful they will still offer doubles. I figured they would do something like that. I am not disappointed that they will only allow 3 per day..makes sense to me. Yes, I will be more selective from now on. My Albies is right next store to Rite Aid, so it is super convenient. I am also Preggy with Twins (plus have 2 already at home)…so my couponing might have to take a back burner for a while. I still say the 1.00 doubles at Albies are better then the .50 at safeway.

Susan May 22, 2011 at 5:53 pm

I wanted to mention that, for those of you who did get some Emerald breakfast on the go … there is a coupon for $1.50/2 on any Emerald product printed inside the box.

I’m sorry some of you had so much trouble at the store today. I was at a Boise Albertsons around noon today and was surprised to actually find many of the hot, free-after-doubler, items still on the shelf – the Emerald, Stouffers, brownie mix, pasta, kikkoman soy sauce, as well as some other items that were very cheap afater doubler.

Stephanie, I’m glad that you mentioned about the special ordering being a form of shelf-clearing. I have shared that opinion for a long time, but I felt a litle awkward saying that here because many bloggers (including Sarah and Matt, whom I adore) encourage readers to place special orders. In addition your point about the stores having to fill the special orders first, I think it’s just wrong in general for individuals to use coupons to get caseloads of products for free. That is not why manufacurers publish coupons.

In the recent talk on a number of couponing blogs about ethics, there have been many comments about ethics and how just because we *can* do something doesn’t necessarily mean that we *should*. Buying large quantities of items because you can get it for free with coupons is along in that same spirit, I think.

Another thing I don’t understand is why anyone would want to buy massive quantities of an untested product, no matter how little it costs. The Emerald breakfast on the go is brand new! Why stockpile something if you don’t even know if your family will like it?

That said, my family is of the opinion that the Emerald breakfasts are very good. We bought three boxes earlier today, one each of the 3 varieties on the shelf, tried two of them, and liked them a lot. But they’re not any better than other brands of trail mix out there, which, sans coupons, you can get for a lot less money if you buy it by the big bagful, or even less if you buy the individual ingredients and mix it up yourself.

lindsay May 22, 2011 at 5:13 pm

The great part is there will always be more pasta or emerald to go for free for that matter so no need to get your pantys in a knot get a raincheck. 1000 boxes is ridiculous, I agree we should all respect eachother but dont stress so much!

Anounymous May 22, 2011 at 4:52 pm

I agree that shelf clearing is wrong, however people special order to ensure they get what they need and still leave some on the shelf. I always call in advance to Albertsons and tell the grocery manager what the big items are…this week he told me the warehouses have been out of the breakfast to go’s for a few weeks, he said its a relatively new item and several stores across the nation have had huge sales in the last month and the manufacture did not expect that many sales. So it isn’t necessarily because someone ordered 1000. I have no idea why someone would want that many….lets hope they work at a womens shelter, food bank, or another agency that is looking for a deal to help others. I have in the past special ordered things that I can get free in large quantities (not 1000 but sometime 100) so that I can help out my local shelters, food banks, etc. I always like to think the best in people so hopefully that is what they were doing. No sense getting angry, you just get yourself worked up and still get no breakfast to go’s :) The sales cycle so there will always be another sale that you can get. Don’t get to frustrated and give up and let someone ruin your day. But I do think special orders are a good thing if you want more than a normal amount. My personal rule is if I want more than 5 of the same item than I probably should call ahead and have them order me extra. I get 5 papers so that is okay. In this case there was nothing the store could do but usually they only order how many they thing they will sale so it they order 500 and 5 ladies want 100 each then they are gone but if those ladies call ahead and they order 1000 then there are still their usually ordered amount for everyone else. I hope everyone has a great day! Pray for those who do wrong and hope they didn’t know they were doing wrong!!!

Rena Miller May 22, 2011 at 4:32 pm

I am new to couponing and I have a great deal of frustration for those people that are clearing the shelves. I can’t even use one of my coupons to get one item free because all products are gone. Do the stores order more product when they know that item is going to be on sale?

Jennifer May 22, 2011 at 4:02 pm

Christy – I was in the old Caldwell store this morning and saw the ladies with the heaping carts as well. I have to laugh because my friend and I just shrugged our shoulders, got a few things and then went to the Stadium store. We were able to get a few boxes of pasta but they did clear the shelves of the Duncan Hines brownies and the Emerald breakfast to go and several other items as well. What they MISSED was that Weber grilling spices like the gourmet burger, chicago steak and kickin’ chicken are $1.99 and we have a $1/1 coupon in today’s insert (SS I think). These three ladies will also have a rude awakening because the new “policy”, as I understand it, is the stores will no longer have twice the value coupons available at customer service or the register. You have to bring your own in to the store and they will be willing to give you ONLY one set of three at the register as you go through if you run out. I get 11 papers each Sunday so I figure I will have to be more “picky” about how I choose to utilize them.

Although this was my first time placing an order, I only ordered 54 boxes of the Emerald breakfast to go. I was told I would be called when my order came in. Since I hadn’t received a call and the shelves were cleared at the old Caldwell store, I didn’t expect to find any at the Stadium store. Much to my surprise, they had quite a few cases. Because I didn’t feel this was part of my order and because I have limited 2x the value coupons, I just bought 14 boxes. That might seem like alot but with my 3 kids that love snacks, they might last 2 weeks – maybe. I’m not trying to justify my purchase – I just was having a thought about how long 1,000 boxes of those things would last before they went stale and became nasty! AND, the person making an order of 1,000 boxes – where did they get 1,000 coupons? Are they hoping to get all 1,000 boxes for free? Where are they getting all of the 2x the value coupons to make that happen since there’s no catalina? Oh, and ringing them up 3 boxes at a time to get them for free and only three transactions in a row at a time? I thinking they’d have to get to the store right after getting kids to school and would be lucky to be home by the time they got home from school. Had they even tried them before? What if they got the 1,000 boxes, tried them and HATED the way they taste?

And the pasta? We don’t eat much pasta but I know there are lots of families that do. How long does it last before weavils take root and infect your entire stock pile? I’m just wondering.

I’ve been couponing for 2 years now after taking a class from Sarah. I’m grateful I learned to coupon from someone with ethics and integrity that believes there’s more to couponing than getting in on the current great deal. I joke to my friend that is my “coupon buddy” that we are “hoarding wenches” since TLC’s extreme couponing show came out. We laugh about it because we really aren’t. We don’t even have a year’s supply of anything in our stockpile – except maybe the glass cleaner that nobody else wanted.

I am addicted to couponing and will probably take my binder on vacation with me on the plane flying clear across the country. The best part about couponing, for me, is the fun I have with my friend. We’ve even been known to go out couponing in the middle of the night, just driving around from store to store and looking at the deals – and come home with absolutely nothing except a great memory of fun and laughter. Just like anything else in life – couponing will be what you make of it.

Heidi May 22, 2011 at 3:52 pm

Also, thanks for all the great deal ideas! I bought 2 Deans dips (avacado dip) and received a $1.00 catalina! I am not sure how long they are set to print, but thought I’d pass it along.

Heidi May 22, 2011 at 3:50 pm

My local Albertsons (Oregon) said the change willbe only one set of doublers per person per day. Although I am sad, I told the clerk it as such a gift for Albertsons to do this as long as they did and thanked her for telling me in advance. Another shopper commented to me about it and how unhappy she was. She was already thinking of ways to beat the system and couldn’t believe Albertsons would do this. I just know that with every transaction, Albertsons was basically giving me $3. The transactions I did today saved me over $30! Now I will just have to be more selective with my deals.

Alicia May 22, 2011 at 3:22 pm

FYI to Ablies shoppers. I just got back from my local Oregon Albertsons and the Customer Service informed me that they are chaning how doublers work in the next two weeks. This will probably be the last time for doubles like they currently are.

They weren’t handing out doublers, only doing them at the register and still (today) were doing 3 transactions, etc.

The staff wasn’t sure what the new “policy” was going to be, but informed me that it would be different.

Krista May 22, 2011 at 3:03 pm

My manager at the Broadway Idaho Falls Albertsons said that the warehouse is completely out of those Emerald Breakfast To-Go’s so he couldn’t get anymore..sad! But if it is because one person special ordered 1,000 then I’m glad they are not allowing that!

Teresa May 22, 2011 at 12:26 pm

Thank you so much for your planning. I found a few other deals that I thought were thrifty. Planter Peanuts 1.99, use peelie for 1.00/2 double and get them for $1 each. Kikkoman Teriyaki Marinade and Sauce $1.99 use $1 double and get them free.

Stephanie May 22, 2011 at 12:23 pm

I agree with Christy but I also think that those that special order are also clearing the shelves. My local albertsons only had 8 boxes of Emerald 2 go breakfast because 3 people special ordered over 1,000 boxes and the store thinks that since they special ordered them then there is nothing they can do until now. As of May 27th, Albertsons will no longer be doing special orders. They will consider them but if the shelf needs it first then you won’t be getting your order. I think that if you need to order 1,000 boxes then you are a hoarder therefore keeping the people like me that are only looking for 2 boxes from getting any. I am glad that albertsons is taking a stand and not allowing it since those that special order are the only ones that are getting the deal. There is no reason to need 1,000 boxes just because they are free let alone keep them from the 50 people that are standing in the store trying to get the same deal. I say take that special order and put it on the shelf for everyone to have.

Christy May 22, 2011 at 9:41 am

I just left the Caldwell Albertson’s(not the stadium store)… I AM SO DISAPPOINTED AND DISGUSTED AT SOME PEOPLE. There are many people that have started their own couponing phase and they are the greedy ones, who have no respect for the ethics each and every couponer SHOULD HAVE. There were 3 women in the store(this was 8:30am by the way) who had HEAPING carts full of items – so clearly, the 4 boxes of pasta that I intended on getting were no where to be had. Shame on you women, who go in and clear shelves, multple shelves and heap your cart so full you have trouble pushing it. It is you, greedy ones, that will give the average non-couponer, such a bad impression and opinion of those of us who are just looking for a random good deal here and there. Shame on you. Sarah, thank you for trying to teach people your awesome tools, and thank you for trying your best in teaching people the do’s and don’ts of couponing. I am sadden however that some people just can’t be saved from having a greedy and self-righteous heart.

Beth T May 22, 2011 at 8:06 am

Dang, we NEVER get the twice the value Q.

Bridget Patterson May 22, 2011 at 7:59 am

There were no coupon inserts in the Argus just the doublers but in the other papers, the statesman and the press tribune, there are inserts and no doublers! so now having to go and get some of the other papers for the coupons :(

Kristen May 21, 2011 at 9:33 pm

I am new to the coupon world and you have provided me with an enormous amout of information! I am hoping to begin my coupon adventure this week! Thank you for your willingness to share your money saving wisdom!
