Bag of Rice Project #426 -A visit to the Imoh family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Imoh family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to The Woodruff Family this is the 426th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Imoh family in Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their neighbors who lived in the same compound with them. We met the Imoh family in a compound with 5 or more families all living and sharing the same utilities like bathroom and toilet. The Imohs have 2 kids and they live in a one room apartment. They were a bit skeptical when we met them and initially did not believe that we could meet them out of the blue and offer them a bag of Rice. A full bag of rice is worth more than many of these people make in a few months time.

The Imoh do not have the luxury of space so they made an enclosure with a net to use as their kitchen. They use a small gas stove in cooking and manage the little space they have with the next family. Mr Imoh is a carpenter and stayed at home because he was told that we would visit them. They gave us a warm reception and it was nice meeting this family.

The Imohs were happy to see us and even happier when they got their bag of Rice. They didn’t understand how we could just give them a bag of Rice for free and asked a lot of questions but were amazed to learn that there was no strings attached. They thanked the donors who made it possible for them to receive a bag of Rice in this tough economy and prayed outlout that the Lord will bless and replenish their pockets.
