Bag of Rice Project #69-A visit to the Udoeyo family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Udoeyo family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Abigail Lloyd this is the 69th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

For this special family, we were introduced to by a bishop. Mr Michael Okon Udoeyo was the first person to be baptized in his village, which was very far from the city and he worked very hard with missionaries to get members from his own village and later became a Branch president in a branch in his village. The branch has since grown to a ward. We went to visit him and He lives in a two bedroom house that is largely uncompleted and has 9 children. We did not meet all the children at home but we met his wife and 3 of his kids.

Mr Udoeyo is partially crippled and can not work without feeling a lot of pains. We were told stories of how he used to walk miles to church from his village and with the missionaries. He is currently unemployed because of his health and his wife Mrs Idongesit sells food from a shop near their house. One of Mr Udoeyo’s sons makes paints but its still on a startup and in its infancy. Their kitchen is just a corner of their house where they cook. They use firewood to cook as that is the cheapest fuel to use .

We loved this family when we met them. They were so warm and welcoming. When we told them why we came to visit them and gave them the bag of Rice, they were so happy. Mr Udoeyo and his wife thanked us and expressed gratitude at our visit and the gift we brought for them. We sat down with Mr Udoeyo and listened to his stories for a while before he could let us go. We left the house feeling so happy and our spirits and soul was filled.
