About Us

I am a stay at home mom with four wonderful kids. I have been married for over 10 years to my best friend. I am head over heels in love with him. He always supports my crazy "thrifty adventures". We have a lot of fun together.

I was raised on a small dairy farm. Where I learned very young, the value of hard work and how to be thrifty in all areas of life. Growing up our meals were made from scratch. Only on special occasion would we get name brand cereal, chips, or any other fancy treats. Now that I am a Mom with my own budget, the basic foods always comes first. I too make most of our meals from scratch and take pride in feeding my family a well balanced healthy diet.

I enjoy seeing how far I can make our budget stretch, and when I take the time to match sales with coupons I am able to get all those "fun & fancy" items that would other wise be out of my budget. Being thrifty has always been a way of life for me, but it has also become a real joy.

TLC Extreme Couponing

I wanted to alert you that TONIGHT, December 29th, at 8pm (eastern), Nathan Engels (MrCoupon) or Nathan Engles (they misspelled his name) along with three other people will be featured on TLC Extreme Couponing and you bet we will be watching it. Extreme Couponers are what many non-couponers call us and it will be fun to see how they portray those who love to live Thrifty by using coupons. We hope that it is positive, but whatever the outcome our goal continues to be one that inspires people to use coupons!

We may be a little ‘extreme’ but our desire and hope is for families that need to save money will check out couponing!!!

Nathan wanted to hint towards something that he built, that was about 15 feet tall!! They filmed it’s creation and it was almost entirely donated to local foodbanks! TLC also filmed the giving aspect of couponing!! During this episode they donated around $6000-$7000 in product to a fantastic pantry!!! (they shared this not to brag, but to lead by example, giving is such an amazing aspect of couponing!!!)

So check out TLC Extreme Couponing on The Learning Channel at 8pm TONIGHT.

Money maker at Walgreens

015Check out this deal that Savvy Spending Meghan made out with at Walgreens:
Noxema Razors $3.99, get a $3 RR
use the $1/1 coupon from the 8/8 RP or the $2 coupon inside the package (after you buy the first one)
Final cost: Free or a $1 moneymaker

I bought 5 packs, used the $1/1 coupon from the 8/8 RP on the first one and did separate transactions so that I could use the $2 coupon inside the packages and get multiple RR’s.

So, I spent about $12 and got back $15 in Register Rewards! I should be stocked up on razors for a while and made about $3 on the deal!

Thanks Meghan. So check your local Walgreens to see if they have them in stock!

Today and Tomorrow Last Days – I Made $5.60 on Restaurant.com 80% off deal!

Today and Tomorrow last day to take advantage of the Restaurant.com / Ebates Offer

Some have asked if they have to subscribe to something, or if this is a trial. Answer: No trial to sign up for, no subscriptions just a great deal.

You can click on the “Now Save 80%….” link below to go straight to restaurant.com and purchase the gift certificate… or if you would like you can sign up to Ebates to get an additional $5 bucks, with an extra 15% back as cash to your Ebates account.

You can do both or just the restaurant deal. Either way this has no subscriptions, and no do this to do that type gimmick. This is a no strings attached deal. How cool!

Ok so I know I have posted the Restaurant.com deal to get 80% off when you buy a $25 gift certificate for only $2.
Now Save 80% Off with every order of $25 Gift Certificates. Use code DINE and pay $2 thru 2/28/09.

But if you register through Ebates, click here:

Not only do you get $5 bucks for signing up , but you get 15% cash back into your Ebates account. Which they will add to your paypal account as a “Big Fat Check”
Example: I bought 2 gift certificates worth $50 for 2 of my favorite restaurants, I only spent $4 bucks.
but since I signed up with Ebates I made $5 bucks for signing up. And I made .60 cents for buying through Ebates, and entering the coupon code: Dine

I became my own “ATM” (A Thrifty Mom) and made $5.60 for buying $50 in restaurant gift certificates!

I love being my own ATM (A Thrifty Mom) Getting paid to buy the things my little family needs!

Clearance items
  • Bandaids on clearance .87 cents
  • Gillette Shave Gel clearance to $1.49 used 1.00 coupon paid .49 cents
Just so you know, I did pay $35.93 out of pocket for just the 7 razors. But for each one I got back a $6 register rewards, (I got $42.00 back in register rewards). ?I can use these on my next shopping trip at Walgreens or my local Albertsons,?they also take them. ?I will use my $42.00 register rewards this week
?instead of cash.

Q&A: ?Why did you pay cash for each razor, why didn’t you just use your register rewards from the razor you bought before? ?I paid for my razors with cash to get back my $6 register rewards for each item. If I bought a razor and then get one register reward back for $6 off on my next purchase then my next purchase (using that same register reward) has to be a completly different type of item for a “new register reward” to print out.?For example I could use a toothpaste register rewards on the razors, and then a “new register reward” for $6 would print out again. But I choose to save them and use them on items I need right now (at either Walgreens or Albertsons) that are not on sale. So yes I did spend money, $35.93, but I got back $42.00 in register rewards I can use at two different stores on what ever I want.

How I got paid to buy toothpaste.

This week at Walgreens they have a sale ( on the back page of the ad) ?on Colgate Toothpaste. ?You buy it for $2.99 but once you pay you get a Register Rewards ?( a coupons that prints out after you pay, good for your next shopping trip)

So it is like paying .99 cents a tube.
When I went to Walgreens today they have the Whitening toothpaste clearanced down to $2.19 but it is still part of the sale this week. ?So you pay $2.19 and get back your $2 register rewards.
So it is like paying .19 cents a tube.
But you all know I carry my coupon book with me, and I had a coupon for $1.50 off colgate. ?So i?
paid .82 cents and got back $2 in register rewards. So I earned $1.18 from buying colgate. Last day for this sale is Saturday. ?If you have clipped your coupons, go make some money! ?Become your own “ATM” or a thifty mom
