I just love someone who can take a silly little mailbox from the dollar spot at Target …. think outside the box. Take two old ugly candle sticks painted them white, added them to the top. Making it into this adorable Valentines decoration to hold a few little love notes.

Lime Cranberry Muffins recipe

Thanks to Hot Eats and Cool Reads for passing along this recipe for Lime Cranberry Muffins, Yummy is all I have to say. These sound really good and different too which is a nice change.

What you need:

1/2 c. sour cream

1 c. granulated sugar

3 large eggs

pinch salt

1 1/2 tbsp. lime zest

1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

1 1/2 c. flour

2 tsp. baking powder

1/2 c. vegetable oil

1 1/2 c. fresh or frozen and thawed cranberries

extra sugar for topping (I used raw sugar)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix sour cream, sugar, eggs and salt together in a large bowl. Add lime zest and vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, sift together flour and baking powder. Add the dry ingredients to the wet and combine until moistened. Add oil. Stir until batter is smooth and combined. Fold in cranberries.

Put batter in lined muffin cups. Sprinkle sugar on top.

Bake for 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Note: You have enough batter for a 12 muffin tin and a small loaf pan. I baked the load for about 10 minutes longer than the muffins. Enjoy!!

Letter Roads ~ Low cost preschool fun

All you need to make this project is

Black poster board
small white lables
contact paper
scissors

Take black posterboard and cut in the shape of letters. Each poster board will give you 1-2 letters, depending on the way each letter fits. Use small white labels as the dashers and covered with contact paper. Each child can play with just one letter or hook the letters and form longer roads.

It would be fun to make all the letters of your little ones name, to help them learn to spell and play at the same time.

Homemade Italian Dressing Mix Recipe ~ Look What I Made

Homemade Italian Dressing Mix

Ingredients

1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder

1 tablespoon onion powder

2 tablespoons oregano, ground or leaves

1 tablespoon dried parsley

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

2 tablespoons salt or substitute

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon ground basil or leaves

1/4 teaspoon ground thyme or leaves

1/2 teaspoon dried celery leaves or flakes

Directions
Mix all ingredients together and store in air-tight container.
ITALIAN SALAD DRESSING:
Mix 2 tbs of this mix with 1/4 cup vinegar, 2 tbs water, and 1/2 to 2/3 cup olive oil or canola oil.
Shake before using.

Homemade Chicken Rice a Roni Recipe

Homemade Chicken Rice a Roni

Rice a Roni is a favorite at our house. Since I’ve started buying less boxed and processed foods, we don’t eat it very often anymore. I’ve seen various recipes for this online, so I had to try and make my own. It turned out delicious and so very easy to make! I served it with Brown Sugar Glazed Carrots and some Organic Chicken Portobello Brats for a tasty meal!

What you need:
1 1/2 tbsp. butter
1 c. instant white rice
1/2 c. fine egg noodles (usually found in the spanish foods aisle)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 c. onion, finely diced
2 1/2 c. chicken broth (I used water and bouillon cubes)
1 tsp dried parsley
salt and pepper

Directions:
Melt butter in a large saute pan. Add rice, noodles, garlic and onion. Saute over medium high heat until rice starts browning, about 5 minutes. Add chicken broth, parsley, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium low and cook covered until rice is cooked through about 10 minutes. Enjoy!!

I am pretty sure EVERY mom has had those moments where you look back at your child in the car and their heads are in such a horrible position you just want to find a way to strap their heads upright so they can sleep more comfortable in the car….that brings me to this post and it was inspired by this Pin on Pintrest it was not a tutorial instead it was a store where you can buy one and I thought I could make this EASY and I DID!!!!!!!

1.Cut two 26″x6″ pieces of fleece

2.Cut six 9″ pieces of ribbon *make sure to burn the ends to prevent fray

3.You will zig zag stitch all the way around leaving an opening to stuff

4.Hand stitch the ribbon on and VOILA ENJOY!!

Cabinet Door Chalk Board with Contact Paper DIY

First off I had no idea Chalkboard Contact Paper or Gowrite Dry Erase Paper even existed… But my mind is swirling with all the creative ideas I could make this it! Love this idea and hope you enjoy it as well.

Chalkboard Contact Paper, 18″ x 6′ $6.96

Gowrite Dry Erase Rolls, 18″ X 6 Feet, White, ( if you want to do dry erase instead) $8.99

Here’s what you’ll need ~

Chalkboard Contact Paper

Scissors to cut contact paper to size

A plastic card to smooth down any bumps

Chalk

And here’s how to do it . . .

Cut contact paper to fit board.

Smooth down with credit card (I actually used the card to smooth it down with, and then creased it very tightly in the corners. The card did the cutting too!)

“Cure” the contact paper by using the flat side of the chalk and completely covering the contact paper

You’re all done! You could also add vinyl letters to write “menu” and “grocery list”

Edible Finger Paint Recipe

Thanks to My Crowded Kitchen for passing along this recipe for Edible Finger Paint. I found this recipe rather useful since I have not been able to master the skill of teaching my kids NOT to eat paint. I will have to give it try next time my kids want to paint.

Here’s a art project that’s not only fun and messy, but edible too! I’m known for letting the kids make good messes every now and then!

Edible Finger Paint:

Ingredients
1 cup sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
6 cups water
Desired food colorings
Desired flavorings

Directions
Mix sugar and flour, whisk in water. Cook over low heat for about 20 minutes, stirring constantly, until paste is thick; Cool. Pour flour mixture into separate cups and add desired colorings and flavorings.

Organize your kitchen on a budget

Is one of your New Years goals to be more organized and reduce the clutter in your home?
Well I saw this idea and I have to say I LOVE IT… how cute are these! Best part is… kid friendly, they are not going to break when my kids drop them on my kitchen floor (or maybe play soccer with them… cause that is what kids do) .

She bought this set of containers at Walmart for $8 to add to the set of 4 she already had.
Then this crafty little lady busted out her Cricut and made some labels for them….. super cute.

Love this idea!!!

Mini Caramel Apple Pie Crumbles Recipe ~ Look What I Made

Mini Caramel Apple Pie Crumbles

Ingredients:

Pie Crust {i used 2-9 in. pre-made refrigerated ones}

Apple pie filling {1 can}

1 box yellow cake mix

1 stick butter

salt

cinnamon

Caramel syrup

Roll out your pie crust and use a cookie cutter to cut out a shape to fit your muffin tin, press into cups.

Then add a sprinkle of cinnamon {or cinnamon & sugar} to the bottom, add pie filling on top.

You may need to cut up the apple slices into thirds to let them fit better.

Next you will need to make your crumble topping, mix your cake mix and melted butter….plus add a good sprinkle of salt and cinnamon. Use a fork to break it up to make it crumbly. Add some caramel topping to the pies … Bot too much you don’t want it to overflow

Top the mini pies with crumbles. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 20-25 min-or until tops are a nice golden brown

Allow to cool a bit and they should remove easily from the cups
{as long as the filling didn’t leak too much and then they might get a tad stuck}

Top with more caramel sauce serve with whipped topping or ice cream and ENJOY!!!

Ugly But Good Cookies ~ Recipe

Ugly Cookies

Ingredients:

1 lb graham crackers (I used 1 box or 3 packages)

2 cans sweet condensed milk

2-12 oz bags chocolate chips*

chopped nuts (she says to use 2 bags of pecan gems—I omit them)

1 tsp vanilla (I forgot it the first time. lol. but it was still tasty!)

*Can also use a mix of white chocolate, butterscotch, or peanut butter chips (the first time I only had 1.5 bags of choc chips, so added white. Still yummy!)

*For this time I added a half bag of mini marshmallows also

In a big bowl, dump the graham crackers and smash them into bite-sized pieces

Add the rest of the ingredients.

{see the few white choc chips?}

Mix well

{I added the mallows last, then mixed}

Spread out on greased cookie sheets

*or if you want you can put them on a spoonful at a time

Bake at 350 for about 10-15 minutes

(the longer time if they are in the bar form and thicker.)

Watch it to be a golden brown….Enjoy!!
