These are the two biggest changes I noticed…. (love that we get overage now, and BOGO coupon with BOGO sale = free)

Coupons that exceed the retail value of an item will have the remaining amount applied to the balance of the transaction. In the event a transaction balance results in a “credit”, additional items WILL be added/suggested to the order to utilize the remaining value of the coupon. We will not provide any “cash back” on coupons; however we will provide full redemption value.

Albertsons offers of Buy One, Get One Free (BOGO) promotions in their weekly advertisement can be combined with Buy One, Get One Free manufacturer coupons to result in BOTH items being Free. The items in the manufacturer coupon must exactly match our weekly advertisement offers and meet the redemption criteria.

Albertsons Official Coupon Policy

To view it on their site click here

Albertsons promotes a coupon friendly shopping experience and encourages customers to participate in store, manufacturer and internet coupon use. The following policy guidelines are current, but Albertsons may change this policy at any time and policy changes may not be advertised. Coupon redemptions are subject to the policy in effect at time of redemption. The current policy information can be discussed with individual store management but is not posted in each store.

Coupons – Definition: Coupons are a form of tender to reduce an order total based on merchandise purchased. Retailers are not required by law to accept manufacturers’ coupon. Coupons can be in print and/or in electronic form, and may be integrated into the register systems where they are deducted automatically when all purchase requirements are met.

General Coupon Acceptance Guidelines

· Coupons are accepted in accordance to the stated requirements on the coupon at the time of purchase. These requirements include, but are not limited to: product type, flavor(s), size(s), quantities and minimum/maximum dollar purchase limits.

· Coupons are intended for one time use and cannot be redeemed more than once.

· Coupons have no cash value.

· Albertsons only accepts original coupons and does not accept photocopied or reproduced coupons (including multiple prints of same series internet coupons).

· Albertsons does not accept expired coupons. Printed expiration dates are verified in addition to scanning the coupon for validity.

· Coupons stating “on next/future purchase or visit” cannot be used in the transaction in which they are generated. Next purchase is defined as a separate transaction.

· The coupon redemption value on ‘Free’ coupons may not exceed the value of the item.

· Albertsons will accept ONE manufacturer coupon and ONE store coupon on the same qualifying item. (Twice the Value coupons are considered a store coupon.)

· Albertsons does not accept competitor coupons. (Coupons generated by any competitor with competitor logo are considered competitor coupons.)

· All applicable sales taxes are paid by the customer at the full value of the item.

· Albertsons reserves the right to refuse any coupons at its discretion.

Manufacturer Coupons

· Coupons issued by manufacturers contain redemption guidelines including, but not limited to: “terms of agreement”, “face value”, “expiration date” and the verbiage “manufacturer coupon”. Albertsons adheres to all manufacturer redemption guidelines.

· Albertsons may issue private promotion “manufacturer coupons” in advertisements that state “redeemable only at Albertsons” in which Albertsons is the only retailer that will accept.

· Coupons that exceed the retail value of an item will have the remaining amount applied to the balance of the transaction. In the event a transaction balance results in a “credit”, additional items WILL be added/suggested to the order to utilize the remaining value of the coupon. We will not provide any “cash back” on coupons; however we will provide full redemption value.

· Albertsons accepts internet generated manufacturer coupons that have the following conditions:

o Coupons must scan at checkout.

o Coupons must have serial numbers and follow an industry-standard format.

o Coupons must clearly indicate that they are a manufacturer coupon and have a valid manufacture address on the printed coupon.

· Albertsons does not accept internet generated manufacturer coupons that have the following conditions:

o FREE product without a required purchase.

o A redemption value that exceeds $5.00.

o The absence of a clear and scannable UPC bar code.

o Same serial numbers (internet sites print time & date stamps on coupons and limit the number of coupons that can be printed from same computer).

o The absence of a valid manufacturer address on the printed coupon.

· Albertsons offers of Buy One, Get One Free (BOGO) promotions in their weekly advertisement can be combined with Buy One, Get One Free manufacturer coupons to result in BOTH items being Free. The items in the manufacturer coupon must exactly match our weekly advertisement offers and meet the redemption criteria.

Store Coupons & Promotions

· Rain checks for store coupons will be given out as long as the store coupon does not state on it “while supplies last”.

· Coupons issued by Albertsons contain redemption guidelines including, but not limited to: “terms of agreement”, “face value”, “expiration date” and the verbiage “store coupon”.

· Albertsons offers store coupons in various forms of media including, but not limited to, print, electronic, newspaper, direct mailers, kiosks and Company websites.

· Albertsons may issue “store coupons” in advertisements that state “redeemable only at Albertsons” in which Albertsons is the only retailer that will accept.

· Store coupons may require that the discount applies only with Preferred/Loyalty/Rewards Card use.

· Twice the Value store coupons can only be used in combination with a $1.00 or less manufacturer coupon (a printed face value of $1.01 or greater cannot be combined with Twice the Value store coupons).

o Albertsons DOES allow manufacturer coupons that state they cannot be ‘doubled’ to be used in conjunction with a Twice the Value store coupon.

· Market Basket coupons can be provided via US mail or email for loyalty, special events, or local relevance. Can be used in transactions where all/many items have manufacturer coupon since it is for total purchase. These may be “stackable” according to guidance in ad/redemption guidelines. Must meet minimum purchase requirement after all other valid coupon redemptions and customer card discounts. The store Point Of Sale system is programmed to limit or restrict coupons in accordance with the redemption guidelines.

Catalina Checkout Coupons/Rebates

· Catalina is a third party vendor that partners with vendors and Albertsons to offer both manufacturer coupons and Albertsons in-store coupons. The coupons are triggered by purchasing qualified items at checkout which generate a coupon to print on the Catalina printer.

· Albertsons delivers 3 types of coupons via Catalina:

1. Manufacturer “cents off” – common type frequently distributed

2. Store Coupon – clearly states “store coupon” in title (cannot be combined with Twice The Value)

3. Market Basket – earned from prior purchase and not associated with an item, but rather the purchase. Can be used in transactions where all/many items have manufacturer coupon since it is for total purchase. These may be “stackable” according to guidance in ad/redemption guidelines. Minimum purchase requirements must be met after all other valid coupon redemptions and customer card discounts. The store Point Of Sale system is programmed to limit or restrict coupons in accordance with the redemption guidelines.

· It is Albertsons’ policy that these coupons are to be used in a future purchase, not within the purchase in which they are generated. (“next purchase” is defined as a separate transaction)

· Catalina coupons are provided to the intended customer based on that particular customers shopping experience or purchase, therefore, such coupons are non-transferable. If a customer does not want the issued Catalina coupons, it is Albertsons’ policy that the cashier or store associate destroys them immediately, including any Catalina coupons delivered at the Self Check Out lanes.

The Total Shopping Experience

· In an effort to serve our all customers better than our competitors, and provide a timely checkout, Albertsons requests that customers do not exceed three (3) consecutive transactions.

· Additional lanes will be opened to serve all customers in a timely manner if the current business and staffing level permits.

· If you have questions or comments about your overall experience, please ask for the Store Director or Customer Satisfaction Manager. Customer’s having a highly satisfied experience is our priority!

I had permission to post it because I think it is a good reminder that rules are frustrating to both customers and employees when they are at the mercy of the manager on duty:

I’ve been reading your site and honestly as a cashier myself I don’t even know the Walmart policy. The problem with it is that the rules seem to change with whatever manager or CSS is on duty. One CSS will say ‘yes we accept this’ one day and on another day a different CSS will say ‘no, we don’t accept this’ It’s very frustrating because not only do we look like we don’t know what we’re doing, we’re angering the customer because they have to wait while we figure it out. As an update for your website I talked to a co-manager 2 days ago and he said that you absolutely have to have the AD in order for us to match it, no you cannot use a coupon with AD matching because it’s fraud and we’re using their AD as a coupon (don’t ask me, it doesn’t make sense to me either) AND we absolutely DO NOT AD match to Paul’s Market. The reason for Paul’s is because ‘they are not near us and are not considered our competitor’ – DIRECT quote from manager. I know it’s frustrating for all those who coupon, but what couponers need to realize is that we are people too. We shop, AD match , coupon, and stand in line just like they do. It’s not our fault that Wal-Mart can’t make a decision and stick with it. Please be nice to us cashiers!

They will no longer be handing out Twice the Value coupons in their stores. They will still have them in select papers (hope that means my local papers) but will NO LONGER have them in stores. The change does not really effect me as I buy my papers with the A Thrifty Mom paper deal and get them for only $.28 each. I bring them to the store with me, and plan my trips accordingly. I understand that they have to limit TTV coupons for those who choose to “extreme coupon” and clear the store of deals. But in trying to stop the extreme I worry they may be hurting the “everyday shopper” or “everyday couponer”. As you know A Thrifty Mom has always taught you to be thrifty, but never extreme. I guess time will tell how it will all work out, your opinions are valued and I encourage you to share them with Albertsons. One thing is true Albertsons has always been a wonderful place for me to shop, and I do not see that changing any time soon

Hi Albertsons Fans!

Thank you for your feedback surrounding the recent changes to the availability of our Twice the Value coupons in our Intermountain West stores. To be clear, we are not eliminating the coupons, but we are making a necessary change to the program. Let us emphasize that we will continue to offer and accept our Twice the Value coupons and they will continue to be available in select Sunday newspapers. But, unfortunately we have seen such a large number of customers using these coupons in excess, and because of this we can no longer provide extra coupon copies at our store locations. It has been a challenge to keep select sales stocked, so we needed to reconsider offering these additional savings in such large quantities.

Please know that we are always open to hearing ideas and suggestions on ways that Albertsons can help you stretch your dollars. We’re excited to see that a number of our fans are interested in seeing us expand on our Preferred Savings card. We also continue to offer coupons in our in-store booklets, as well as in our exclusive email savings programs. This change allows us the opportunity to expand our savings into new programs, rather than just discontinue our Twice the Value coupon program entirely.

We welcome your feedback, so please feel free to share your thoughts with us as we continue to reevaluate how to make shopping and saving at Albertsons a great experience. Most importantly, please know that we do appreciate your business. Thank you!

I have told you before that one of the hardest parts to couponing is keeping up to date with coupon policy’s for each store. We try hard to keep you informed of changes to make your shopping trips easy as possible.

Looks like Winco just updates their coupon policy, the two main changes I see, they no longer allow overage and you can not pay with mass cuts, a huge stack of coupons that all have the same cut marks. Normally this is if you have 10 or more of the same coupon… but ask you local stores for more details.

No cash back for coupons with a higher value than the item’s purchase price

No mass-cut coupons

For the Current Winco deals at the Nampa location click here, over 100 deals listed.

What is your coupon policy?

WinCo Foods gladly accepts manufacturer’s coupons where all the following apply:

The coupon has a valid barcode that can be scanned into our system,

The item is in stock,

Restrictions and requirements listed on the coupon are met. This includes but is not limited to: quantities (minimum required and maximum allowed), sizes, brand names, product variety, expiration dates, and store location.

The coupon(s) is not a result of coupon “stacking,” “doubling,” etc. (*1* coupon per item limit)

*WinCo Foods reserves the right to deny any coupon at any time.
WinCo Foods Coupon Policy

We do not double or triple coupons; WinCo has a one(1) coupon per item limit. If a coupon has been used with an item, no other coupon may be used with that item and no other item may benefit from that coupon

WinCo Foods does not accept competitor’s coupons

All coupons must scan properly

Coupons must be presented along with the item purchased

No cash back for coupons with a higher value than the item’s purchase price

No mass-cut coupons

No photocopied or visibly altered coupons

Customer is responsible for all sales tax

Coupons cannot be purchased, sold or transferred

Coupons are a great way to save even more when shopping with us, and it’s easy to use them at our stores. When accepting coupons, we follow the guidelines below.

Manufacturer and Target Coupons:

· Target accepts one Manufacturer Coupon and one Target Coupon for the same item (unless prohibited by either coupon).

· Item purchased must match the coupon description (brand, size, quantity, color, flavor, etc.).

· Coupon amount may be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied.

· We can’t give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item.

· All valid coupons should be presented to the cashier during checkout.

· All applicable sales taxes are paid by the guest at the full value of the item.

· These guidelines apply to all coupons accepted at Target (Color Checkout Coupons, Internet Coupons, Mobile Coupons, Mailed Coupons, Coupons from Newspapers and Magazines, etc.).

Internet (Print-at-Home) Coupons:

· We gladly accept valid internet coupons that contain a clear and scannable bar code.

· We do not accept internet coupons for free items with no purchase requirements.

Mobile Coupons:

· Guests can receive Target Mobile Coupons by signing up for Text Alerts at Target.com/mobile or by texting COUPONS to 827438 (TARGET).

· Message and data rates may apply. See site for full details.

· To redeem, simply show your coupon barcode to the cashier. With one simple scan, all applicable coupons are applied.

Buy One Get One Free Coupons (BOGO):

· BOGO coupons cannot be combined (i.e. you cannot use two BOGO coupons on two items and get both for free). Unless stated otherwise on the coupon, the use of one Buy One Get One Free coupon requires that two of the valid items are presented at checkout of which one item will be charged to the guest and the 2nd item will be discounted by its full retail price.

· A second cents-off coupon of the same type cannot be redeemed towards the purchase price of the first item.

o If a Target BOGO coupon is used, one additional manufacturer coupon maybe used on the first item.

o If a Manufacturer BOGO coupon is used, one additional Target coupon may be used on the first item.

Exclusions:

· Coupons are void if copied, scanned, transferred, purchased, sold, prohibited by law, or appear altered in any way.

· We can’t accept coupons from other retailers, or coupons for products not carried in our stores.

Coupon Policy

Stater Bros. Markets gladly redeems valid coupons. The following guidelines apply to all forms of coupons:

The coupon offered must be valid. The coupon must contain a paragraph addressed to: grocer, dealer, or retailer. The paragraph must state that the manufacturer will reimburse (Stater Bros. Markets) the face value of the coupon, including handling cost. If the coupon does not have this paragraph, and also a scannable barcode, it is not a valid coupon.
The coupon must have a valid expiration date that has not expired at the time of redemption.
The original coupon must be presented. Photocopies will not be accepted.
The required item(s) on the coupon must be purchased, must be presented to the cashier at the time of purchase, and cannot be applied to a previous purchase.
Product must be purchased in sizes and/or quantities specified on the coupon.
Coupon value cannot exceed the price of the item(s) purchased/and the coupon has no cash value.
Unless otherwise stated by the manufacturer, a customer may only use one manufacturer coupon per item.
Stater Bros. Markets must follow all manufacturer guidelines.
Coupon stacking policies for manufacturer coupons apply to paper and electronic coupons. We will allow one Stater Bros. paperless coupon with one manufacturer coupon unless prohibited. Exclusive In-store ad coupons may be redeemed with one manufacturer coupon if all manufacturer redemption criteria are met.
Coupons are subject to advertised offer limitations and all other limitations and restrictions on coupon. Stater Bros. Markets has the right to place limits per purchase or transaction on all coupons.
The customer must pay all deposits, fees, and sales tax on the full value of the item(s).
Stater Bros. Markets reserves the right to refuse any coupons that we believe to be photocopied, counterfeit, being presented in a fraudulent manner, or invalid for any reason.

Additional guidelines apply for the following types of coupons:

Printed Internet coupons

The same manufacturer and store coupon rules above apply to all internet printed coupons.
Stater Bros. Markets does not accept Internet coupons for items prohibited by law or free items. Coupons that have a purchase requirement to receive a free item are acceptable. Examples: Buy One Get One free, Buy Two Get One free.
Internet printed coupons must have a serial number and follow an industry-standard format. (see example below)
The coupon must be obtained from a legitimate site, where the coupon never appears on the screen. All legitimate printable coupons are sent directly to the printer, after clicking on a link in your web browser or email. A legitimate coupon is never sent as a graphic or PDF or sent in a Word document.
Internet Coupons with a value over $5 will not be accepted.

Example of a Valid Internet Coupon

This internet coupon would be acceptable. It does not exceed $5.00, contains a valid statement of reimbursement, a valid expiration date and has a scannable barcode.

Example of valid Internet coupon

Catalina Check Out Coupons

Only valid Catalina check out coupons that read “redeemable at Stater Bros. Markets” will be accepted.

Stater Bros. Markets reserves the right to change this policy at any time without prior notice. All coupon redemptions are subject to the policy in effect at time of redemption. Coupon redemption policy changes may not be advertised.

Earlier this week we told you that our local Rite Aid had made a few changes and was now limiting shoppers to 4 deals per item. Rite Aid just released a new national coupon policy that enforces this change. They also made a change to their Buy one get one free sale can no longer be used with a BOGO free coupon.

The longer you coupon one thing it always true, the rules are always changing and it is best to accept those changes and coupon with a smile.

You can find official policy here print it and carry it with you in your coupon binder.

Rite Aid – Coupon Acceptance

To Our Valued Customers:
Rite Aid gladly accepts the following coupon types as detailed in the coupon acceptance guidelines listed below:

COUPON TYPES:

Manufacturer Coupons
? Manufacturer coupons are found in newspapers, magazines and even affixed to products. The UPC on these coupons begins with a “5.”

Rite Aid Manufacturer Coupons
? Rite Aid Manufacturer coupons generally appear in our weekly circular, on our website and are sent to customers via email. These coupons are labeled “manufacturer coupon” and have a UPC that begins with “49.”

Rite Aid Valuable Coupons
? Rite Aid coupons are labeled “Valuable Coupon” and have a UPC that begins with “48.”

Internet/Print at Home coupons
? Rite Aid will accept internet / print at home coupons up to the equivalent value of $5.00 off.
? A Rite Aid coupon (with the Rite Aid logo) is NOT considered an internet coupon (even if printed off the internet) and is therefore not subject to the $5.00 maximum.

+UP Reward Coupons
? +UP Reward coupons are special coupons earned by a customer in a prior purchase that can be used for any nonprescription purchase with a small number of exclusions that are listed on the +UP coupon. Multiple +UP coupons can be used (subject to the printed exclusions) up to the amount of purchase before sales tax.

Buy One, Get One Free
? Rite Aid accepts Buy One, Get One Free coupons, however only one coupon can be used for each pair of items purchased. A customer can use one “cents off” coupon in conjunction with the item they are purchasing on a Buy One Get One Free promotion (or with a Buy One Get One Free coupon), although the value of the cents off coupon cannot exceed the selling price of the item.
? Buy One Get One Free coupons cannot be used in conjunction with a Buy One Get One Free promotion.

Total Purchase Coupons
? Rite Aid may feature total purchase coupons which discount the total purchase amount based upon meeting specific requirements. For example, $5 off a $25 purchase price threshold coupon.
? These coupons are accepted under the following conditions:
o The coupon is valid and in date; only one total purchase coupon per transaction.
o Total purchase equals or exceeds $25 before tax (before any coupons are applied).
o Coupons for individual items can also be used including another “48” coupon that is tied to an item in the transaction.
o Provided the total of items purchased is equal to or greater than the purchase requirement, other coupons can be used in conjunction with the total purchase coupon.

ACCEPTANCE GUIDELINES:
General Guidelines:
? Coupons must be valid and in date; Coupons cannot be exchanged for cash.
? Register will validate coupon through scanning or keyed entry of the coupon UPC number.
? In the event that any item’s selling price is less than the value of the coupon, Rite Aid will accept the coupon in exchange for the selling price of the item. Coupon redemption can never exceed the selling price of an item and no cash back is
allowed.
? When making a return for a product that had a coupon attached, Rite Aid cannot refund cash for the value of the coupon and cannot return the coupon that was used.
? Rite Aid reserves the right to not accept any coupon where the validity or the coupon cannot be established.

Multiple Coupons
? More than one coupon can be used on the purchase of a single item under the following conditions:
o All coupons match the item being purchased.
o The total of the coupons is equal to or less than the selling price of the item before sales tax.
? No more than one “48” Rite Aid Valuable coupon, one “49” Rite Aid Manufacturer coupon, and one “5” Manufacturer coupon can be used on a single item. Rite Aid may accept up to 4 identical coupons for the same number of qualifying items as long as there is sufficient stock to satisfy other customers within the store manager’s sole discretion.

There will now be limits of 4 deals per item, per sale, unless the ad has a different limit, such as two. This retailer is having the same issues that Walgreens has been having, click here to read about that.

So what do you think about this turn of events? Here are some of my thoughts on this.

With the growing interest in coupons and the supply of the great items disappearing off the shelf even before the sale is 24 hours old, I think it is a great idea. Too many regular sale seekers are missing out on the deals because not everyone chooses to hit the store first thing Sunday morning. Read here about what stores are best for stocking up at. The employees of these stores are then left with trying to give the best customer service over the next 6 days of the sale to not only the couponing community but the average consumer. I as a coupon-using consumer want this store to be successful, remain available, coupon friendly, and not unduly burdened with rain checks that are left unclaimed (this creates a back stock). If imposing limits assists them in doing this, then I will happily follow the rules.

So now having said this. How do you feel about this issue. Will you embrace this?

I know I can still get a great stock pile on 4 deals per item per week, it just might take a little longer and I am okay with that. What I will like about this limitation is that when I find time to get into the store, I have a better chance of actually getting deals and NOT having a binder full of rain checks rather than a full stock pile.

Ingard

She went to Fred Meyer talked to a manager about the policy change. His words: As long as it’s a Manufactures coupon and it scans we will take it” She went ahead and asked him if there is anything in writing about this change (we all know one of us is going to get stuck with a cashier that wouldn’t take it) but he said that there isn’t and if you have a problem just ask for a manager. She is going to email corporate to see if I she can get anything in writing.

I do not shop much at my local Fred Meyer because it is a 25 minute drive…. so I DO NOT know if our local stores are on board with this new policy or not. I will be eager to see something in writing from corporate! Any of you had any luck doing this?

In an effort to serve our all customers better than our competitors, and provide a timely checkout,Albertsons requests that customers do not exceed three (3) consecutive transactions.

Additional lanes will be opened to serve all customers in a timely manner if the current business and staffinglevel permits.

We allow 3 transactions in a row**

Customers may use a Catalina from the first order on the 2nd and 3rd orders

We accept all “Do not Double” coupons with TTVs (Twice the Value)

TTVs (Twice The Value) can we take them with another store coupon?
- No – TTVs say “store Coupon” on them and we cannot take them with another store coupon
- Example – 11/14 ad – Tillamook Cheese 3.99 on store coupon, can use a manufacturer coupon with this, but not a TTV coupon

Cash back will not be given for items

Can we take 2 manufacturer coupons on a buy one get one free promotion?
Yes – one manufacturer coupon per item-even if the one coupon says free, or there is a big BOGO promotion

Many couponers like to have a print out of each stores coupon policy. Rite Aid public relations department sent this out to me this week. And I thought I would remind those who shop there to print out their policy to keep it on hand. Print it here Below are some of the guidelines:
General Guidelines:
Coupons must be valid and in date; Coupons cannot be exchanged for cash.
Register will validate coupon through scanning or keyed entry of the coupon UPC number.
In the event that any item’s selling price is less than the value of the coupon, Rite Aid will accept the coupon in exchange for the selling price of the item. Coupon redemption can never exceed the selling price of an item and no cash back is allowed.
When making a return for a product that had a coupon attached, Rite Aid cannot refund cash for the value of the coupon and cannot return the coupon that was used.
Rite Aid reserves the right to not accept any coupon where the validity or the coupon cannot be established.
Multiple Coupons
More than one coupon can be used on the purchase of a single item under the following conditions:
All coupons match the item being purchased.
The total of the coupons is equal to or less than the selling price of the item before sales tax.
No more than one “48” Rite Aid Valuable coupon, one “49” Rite Aid Manufacturer coupon, and one “5” Manufacturer coupon can be used on a single item.
Rite Aid may accept multiple identical coupons for multiple qualifying items as long as there is sufficient stock to satisfy other customers within the store manager’s sole discretion.

Kris sent me this email,

The past couple of weeks when I have gone coupon shopping I have run into someone who thinks they are really cleaver, they have printed off there 2 coupons from the website and copied more on there scanner. I have told them this is not allowed but they more then 1 have told me they do it all of the time and get away with it!!
Anyway the reason I am writing you is maybe you could get the word out that we will eventually loose our coupon privileges if it continues. The stores could refuse them again, or maybe the printable ones we will loose all together. We still get the inserts here but there are places where they do not get the Valassies. Something to think about.
Anyway thanks for listening.

Below is a post I did 2 months ago on this same topic, I had lots of readers say they didn’t know it was wrong to photo copy coupons so I thought it would be a good info to those who are new to couponing.

I am sad to hear that there seems to be an increase of fraudulent coupons being used. I would like to think that it is an honest mistake ( as we are all human and make mistakes) but most the time it is people trying to bend the rules. One of the biggest problems is people taking an internet printable coupon that is fine to use…but then they photocopy the coupon (sometime hundreds of times). It is illegal to copy a coupon. If you copy a coupon, yes it will scan, but the store will only get paid for the original coupon….not the copies that were made.
Here is the problem, the customer uses the coupon to pay for an item, the store should then get paid for that coupon. IF that coupon is fraudulent, the store will NOT get paid….causing them to loose money. So basically you are stealing from the store if your coupons are fake. In the past many stores quit taking internet printable coupons for this reason. We have been blessed to have most stores take them again….but all it takes is a few people to have them change their mind again, and mess things up for the rest of us.
So if you or someone you know is coping coupons I want you to know it is WRONG, and it not only effects you but all the honest coupon shoppers as well. There is a right and a wrong way to use coupons, I wanted to make it clear that this is NOT ok….and needs to be stopped. ( grrrrrr did I sound mean, I am such a wimp)

I thought it had to great info about Target and Walmart….thanks for passing it along.

I received an email from reader, Dawn recently, and here is what she said:

When I tried to price match at Walmart yesterday the cashier told me that they will no longer price match items from the Price Chopper ad if the ad states that the price is “with Chopper Shopper card”. She said the policy changed 30 days ago or so. Have you heard about this? She wasn’t very friendly and I didn’t really press the issue (it was 5 pm on a Friday evening). This isn’t my normal shopping time but I only need a couple of items. Anyway, I didn’t end up buying the items and was a bit frustrated. I know Target’s policy says that they don’t have to match items that require a store card. Just thought I would see what you know, if anything. Thanks again for everything you do.

Dawn actually contacted the manager of the store where she shops and was told that they DO price match and this clerk was in error. So now she knows that she should do the next time.

Never be afraid to speak to a manager when it comes to price matching. Sometimes, the clerks are not 100% sure of what they should or should not do. Right now, in Kansas City, you can find 3 stores who price match: Walmart, Kansas City and Price Chopper.

Walgreens is currently doing some testing in local markets, but it does not appear Kansas City is one of those areas.

Before you can price match, you need to know the basics, which apply to all stores:

1. The ad you bring in must be the current week’s ad and must be from the newspaper insert. Internet printed copies are not accepted for price matching.

2. The item you want to match must be an exact match to the item you are purchasing. For example, if the store says Lysol Pourable is on sale for $2.00, then you can select any variety of that product, but you can not grab a Lysol Spray and expect price matching.

3. You can still use a coupon on any item you wish to price match – standard coupon policies for each store will be applicable in this situation as well.

TARGET

There are some additional variables for Target. I confirmed these with Customer Service today so you will know best HOW to price match.

1. You can check out with the cashier in any lane, however, price matching is not done at the cashier’s station, but rather customer service.

2. In order to have your item price matched, keep it separate from your regular purchase. Complete your transaction and then go to the service desk for your price matching.

3. If you begin your transaction with the cashier and then remember you need to price match, please let the cashier know immediately. They can suspend your transaction and send you to customer service to complete it.

4. If you forget about your price matching, you can take your item to customer service and get a price adjustment once your transaction has been completed.

5. There are items that are excluded from the price matching. They include ads for:

*Target.com or online retail promotion
*Competitor’s Free Product
*Gift Cards
*Limited quantity items
*Open box or damaged
*Clearance or closeout
*Mail-in offers
*Services (warranties, assembly, etc.)
*Bundle offers
*Special order
*Sales-tax promotions
*Liquidation/going out of business
*Special financing
*Coupons (meaning other store coupons can not be used at Target)
*Used or previously owned
*Display merchandise
*Pricing or typographical errors
*Club or loyalty (meaning if you get the deal with a Chopper card, Target will not match the price)

6. If you purchase an item at Target, and find it advertised in another Target ad lower either the same week or the next week, you can bring in your original receipt and the ad and get cash back for the difference.

As a reminder, this service isn’t available on clearance merchandise. Some guests may not be able to return to the store during the same week or the week following their purchase. In cases such as this, store team members may make adjustments within 90 days of purchase.

Here is the Low Price Promise Fact sheet that would be great to print and keep with you when you shop at Target as it clearly outlines the policies.

WALMART

If you want to price match at Walmart, you will want to print and take along this policy of their guidelines. Here they are:

1. We do honor “Preferred Shopping Card” advertised prices. Must be like items, be advertised and require a competitor’s shopping card, for the discount to apply.

2. We do not honor advertisements that require a purchase in order to receive the advertised price or free product.

3. We do not honor “Buy One / Get One Free” advertisements.

4. We do not honor double or triple coupons or percent off advertisements.

5. We do not honor other retailers’ “Misprinted” advertised prices.

6. We do not honor Internet Pricing.

7. We do not honor competitor advertisements from outside of the store’s or Club’s local trade territory. (This is important to note as if a store is not in your area, you can not price match at Walmart).
