Chalk Paint Mason Jar Teacher Gift Idea

I showed you all how to make a mason jar really have character with some chalk paint here. Now I want to show you how to turn that jar into a great teacher gift!

The only extra thing you need on top of the chalk painted jar, is some twine or jute and a saying for the front. When I saw this saying a while ago I thought it would be perfect for one teacher in particular that really goes above and beyond.  I love that it says “Teachers who love to teach, teach children to love to learn.”

I cut that out of vinyl and stuck it on the front of the jar.

For all of the fillers, that is totally up to you!  If you use a short, wide mouth jar, you could add some pencils, pens or markers. This tall jar didn’t leave a lot of options, but I didn’t think about that ahead of time. Obviously, there is no set amount to spend, that is up to you .  Some ideas are some cute pens, lip gloss, candy, gift cards, really, whatever you can come up with! If you go the candy route, you can buy that pretty cheap making it great for a small budget! It really is about the thought!

Easy, Thrifty Lego Storage

It started out innocently enough, kids love legos, so a bucket of them seemed like the perfect gift idea.  Then they requested sets for other holidays and birthdays.  Before I knew it we had a small tote full.  So full that rummaging through them was next to impossible and playing with them was a chore instead of a creative, fun time!

I researched different ways to store them, and while I loved some of them, they weren’t practical or thrifty!  I decided on plan b; get some empty plastic shoe boxes and let each color have it’s own box.  So far it has worked great!  All 3 of my kids have spent a couple of hours on the floor creating various masterpieces.  So much better than asking to watch tv or play a video game!

I started with 10 boxes to be safe.  I had one for each color.  As I finished organizing them, I discovered that there weren’t enough of some of the colors to need their own box.  I ended up mixing the blue and purple and the yellow, red and orange.  Apparently we have an over abundance of grey and we may have to divide it in half (thanks to the obsession for the Star Wars sets).

I admit that I enjoyed it at first, I have a thing for organizing and with a family haven’t been able to keep things the way I would’ve in the past.  So this gave me a chance to rekindle that obsession, hobby.  If you don’t enjoy that type of thing, or even if you do, what a great way to spend some time with your kids while you let them help divide the colors into their boxes!  Finish up by labeling your boxes so that they are easy to see which one you need.  I cut labels out of vinyl in a Lego brix font I believe I got from dafont.com.  You could easily do it in different colors of vinyl to match the color in the box, or even in the coordinating color of permanent marker.

Garden Markers DIY, Garden ideas, DIY Craft, Garden party or Garden, Kid craft projects, easy and popular ideasI have made the mistake before of NOT marking my garden… and I forget what I planted in different sections of the garden. It can be rather frustrating  and a bit of a guessing game till the plants get larger.  We have used lots of different markers over the years but this is one of my favorite ways.  Since you use the seed packet as the marker, you can go back and check things on the packet like growing time, harvest information or even save it so you know to look for that variety again next year if it is one your really like.  The key is to make it water proof so it lasts till the end of the growing season.

These are so easy to make and turned out really cute.  All you need is the empty seed packet, some wooden spoons  and packaging tape.  I got a bunch of wooden spoons at a yard sale so they cost me about five cents each, but you can normally find a 4 pack at the dollar store.  Put the wooden spoon inside the empty seed packet, use packaging tape to cover the whole packet to make it waterproof and secure it to the spoon too. Simple as that you are done, now just put the handle into the ground and mark where you planted those seeds.
