The other day I took my kids to a farmers market in town.  Our friends were selling soap that they made from the milk they get from their goats.   They sold little cubes of it with instructions to microwave it for 30 seconds for some “clean fun” with kids.  The little cube of soap grew into this huge cloud of fluffy soap.  My kids loved it, and wanted to do it again and again.

Ivory soap has air bubbles in it so it is said to work best. Cut the soap into smaller pieces, put on a paper towel and microwave on high for 30-45 seconds.  Watch the soap grow and jump out in snake like sections.  You can still use it as soap if you wanted, but it becomes a crumbly mess so once the kids were done playing with it, I tossed it in the trash.

Or thanks to the tip from one of our readers, you can them chop the soap up  or grate it and use it to make Homemade Laundry Detergent. Making fun with NO WASTE!

Mystical Growing Tree ~ Awesome experiments for kids

My daughter got this as a birthday gift from her Uncle John, she loves science and so this was the perfect gift for her!  It comes with a base, cardboard tree and a liquid packet that you pour into the base once you “fluff” the  branches the way you like. That is it, so easy… and the best part is, it starts growing right away. Within an hour we could see little buds on the tips of the tree, and within 6 hours it was covered! SO much fun!

Tie dye Shirts with sharpie markers, make Fire Work shirts for the 4th of July all you need is a sharpie, and a spraybottle #TieDie, #DIY, #Crafts, #KidsMy girls wanted to make shirts for the 4th of July, so we deiced to make Tie Dye shirts with sharpies.  Inspired from the Tie Dye shirts we made at the beach.  We did it different this time, we did not use the cups or the dropper but the basic idea is the same.

You could make flags, scarves, t-shirts, towels…. all sorts of fun ideas.  This would also be a fun project to do on the 4th in the heat of the afternoon when you are waiting for the fireworks.

To make these all you need is:

Sharpie Makers

Rubbing Alcohol

Spray bottle

White T-shirt

Price of cardboard

If you don’t have cardboard you could also use a cookie sheet.

Tie-Die Shirts with sharpie markers, make Fire Work shirts for the 4th of July all you need is a sharpie, and a spraybottle #TieDie, #DIY, #Crafts, #KidsOnce you have your pictures drawn, pour rubbing alcohol into a spray bottle.  Spay the tshirt with alcohol.  The  more you put on the more the ink will spread. It will start to spread right away, but you will not see the final “blend Tie Dye look” till your shirt has dried.

If you want to set the ink, you can soak it in a Soda Ash before you draw on the shirt.    You can also heat set the ink with a iron.  Please note that once you wash the shirt it will start to fade if you do not first treat it with soda ash.
