My Family

While at BlogHer I started to get a sore throat, then an awful headache and a runny nose. I tried to go to bed early and just sleep it off, but each morning I felt a little worse. Don’t get me wrong I had a blast, but was a little disappointed I felt crummy.  Lucky P&G happened to be one of BlogHers fabulous sponsors and  in one of my sway bags they gave me some  Vicks Nature Fusion Cold and Flu.  I got it the first night and had no intentions to use it while at BlogHer, and tossed it into my suitcase.  Normally I really try to avoid any type of cold and flu meds…. why you ask?  I am not sure why but holly cow, they make me higher than I kite…. the room starts to spin I get dizzy and the world is “happy place” for a few hours.  I know it sounds crazy but it is true, so I try to avoid them at all cost. I was really starting to feel awful.  My roomates were all dancing the night away at one of the parties and it was only 9pm and I was in my room laying in bed. And I was blowing my nose with a roll of hard scratchy toilet paper.

The next morning I spent some time in the P&G expo booth and happened to spot a box of  Puffs with Vick’s in them.  My sore nose was screaming at me to snag a few.  But they were for display only……  shhhhh don’t tell anyone I totally grabbed a few.  I then just sat there and smelled them.  No joke these are my all time favorite product when I am sick.  Remember those weird little tubes they use to sell that smelled like Vicks and you were suppose to put them in your nose to help open your sinuses.  Well I had one when I was little and loved it.  So now when I am sick I snuggle up with my Puffs with Vicks and it totally makes me feel better.  Well I was feeling a little guilty about my stolen tissues, so I confessed my sins to Kim who works with P&G (I had met her a few nights before).  I admit I was a little worried, hello I had stolen tissues in my pocket.  You’ll never guess what she did…. she gave me a whole box.   I think my nose  just met its new best friend.  My Puffs box stayed with me thru the rest of the conference.

I woke up Sunday morning feeling awful.  I had to leave early to catch my flight, and the last thing I wanted was sinus congestion.  I spotted my Vicks Nature Fusion Cold and Flu in my bag and wondered if it could help me feel better.  But hello, I did not want to be the crazy “high on cold meds lady”  at the airport either.  I decided to take my chances and took half a dose.  This story would be a lot more exciting if  I then announced that I did in fact go a little nutty at the airport.  But lucky for me, instead it worked wonders and I felt so much better.  And my Puffs and I had a great flight home.

My kids were very excited to have Mommy back home.  We had dinner, read stories and they were off to bed.  That is when I noticed I had a fever, cold chills and I feel awful!  I grabbed my box of Puffs, my snuggly blanket and went to bed.  We will see how today goes… but posts may be a little thin.  I am “calling in sick”…….

Please know that I was NOT paid in anyway to promote P&G products, all opinions are my own.  I really am just flat out in love with Puffs with Vicks, and was excited to find a cold and flu  option that my body was able to tolerate.  I may not have my Mom here to take care of me when I am sick, but at least I can have the same products that she used when I was little.  It is amazing how “smells” can bring back happy memories.

Well Sarah is still gone on her BlogHer conference trip. After we drop of Paulin at the airport, we get to pick her up later today as well. We are so excited!

The past 5 weeks we have had my (Matt’s) 9th cousin from France stay with us. At first Sarah was a bit timid about opening our home to a stranger. I was all for it from the beginning but she doesn’t do well with new things. After a few weeks of gentle persuasion she came to me and said that she was OK with the idea. So right before Independence Day Paulin H. flew in!

The kids were so excited. And poor Paulin was so tired from the long flight. He had such a short lay over in Seattle that his bags ended up coming in on the the next flight.

We drove to my parents for the fireworks. He played with the kids almost the entire way.

We stopped at Craters of the Moon, Idaho.

He saw the July Fourth parade

He saw his first Baseball game on July fourth as well.

He saw how crazy it is to sit out early in Idaho Falls for their huge firework show.

We took him Ice Blocking

We drove through three states and took him through Yellowstone National park.

He saw his first bison. It was only about 15 yards away.

He saw his first hot water pools, and Old Faithful.

We made it there just as it went off -  what timing!

We went on a 50 mile hike that was 5 days long in central Idaho -

Oh don’t worry he was like a mountain goat up there. He loved it.

He helped with the kids and feed Maveric.

If he kept the food out of his mouth.

He did the Big Juds Challenge and won! 1 pound of meat plus toppings, basket of fry’s and a large soda.

He burned it off with Matthew and cut our grass while he was here.

We went to the rodeo. It was the Snake River Stampede – one of the top ten rodeos in the nation

He leaned over during the bull riding and said ” This I Like!”

He was the only one that could get Matthew to ride a pony at a birthday party.

The kids had a blast with the presents from France!

We all went to Roaring Springs water park for the first time… our first as well.

We took him shooting with about 10 different guns. He says that was one of the best days!

We went to Chuck – E – Cheese

We had so much fun with him. He is such a well behaved, mature 16 year old. Very polite, well mannered, helped out SOOO much, played with the kids, buckled them in the truck almost every time, and was always so thankful. The world would be a better place if all teenagers were like this. We did so much more then the photos here. The times talking and eating had each their own special and fun moment.

We are saving to visit him in France at a Barrand family reunion where about 800 other Barrand’s all show up in a small town. Hopefully the blessing will work out! Thanks Paulin, and his mom and dad for this wonderful summer. We will miss him!

Well it only took me an hour to figure out where in heck I was suppose to be…… This place is huge!  Remember I use to direction that sound like ” go three miles, pass the big red barn, and turn right at the corn field”.  This morning it was  ”go to the lobby, turn right at starbucks, down the escalators, threw the parking garage, in to the conference center, registration, thru the lobby up the escalators, hang a right….. you get the point” Ummmm ya I got just a little lost…. but I finally found it.

This morning I was in a class with The Pioneer Woman and The Budget Fashonista …. it has been a great morning.  Not only do they have great tips, but they are a hilarious as well!

Do any of you recognize these wonderful ladies sitting next to me?  Yip spending the day with Fabulessy Frugal Gals.

BlogHer- I made it

Well you will be proud of me, I made it to San Diego all by myself :)  Flight was a bit on the bumpy side, and a 10 year old talked my ear off the last hour of the trip but it was good.  I think she was just so excited someone was talking to her…… but man the girl needed a pause button.  I could not help but smile, she would ask one question give me about 1/2 a second to answer,  and another question was rolling out of her mouth.

In order to get the picture, read the following ALL in one breath as fast as you can….

  • What is your favorite animal?
  • Do you like the Zoo?
  • I like turtles but they stink….
  • They live in the ocean, do you swim?
  • I am a really good swimmer… I am on the swim team
  • What would be your dream field-trip if you were in school
  • Did they have field trips when you went to school?
  • I am really smart, my teachers told me….
  • this went on for a good hour…… Bless her heart

Once I landed, I headed right for my hotel and met up with my roomates Jamie and Kasey from Time 2 Save Workshops. Thank goodness they are here or I really would be having a mental breakdown.  These girls are from the south, and if you looked  up the word southern charm  in the dictionary you would see these girls photos. I just adore them.

We then headed to the Vic’s party, where we enjoyed some great food.  Met up with other bloggers and got some great freebies thanks to P&G.

I met up with Lisa from Simplified Savings, Cathy, Monica and Amber from Fabulessly Frugal and Jamie and Kasey from Time 2 Save Workshops. So fun to meet up with other frugal bloggers!

On the way back I stopped in at CVS, we do not have one locally but I know they have great coupon deals.  I wanted to try my luck at their fun little coupon machine that gives you a free coupon every time you scan your card.

Well it is 12:26 am and I am calling it a night ….. I have to be up and ready for classes at 7.

So a few months ago a decided I needed to step outside of my comfort zone and attend one of the largest Bloggers conferences, BlogHer.   I was really excited about the whole idea and even decided to go alone this time so Matt could be home to tend the kids.  I am a small town farm girl so this was a huge step for me to hop on a plane and head to the unknown.

I packed my bag, which the kids thought was a great picnic table to eat their snack on this morning.   I just pray I have everything I need and didn’t forget anything important.  And have the courage to open my mouth and talk to total stranger…. I know some call this “networking” I call it torture.

On the way to the airport my sweet little one feel asleep and I realized I will not see him for 4 days.  I admit I feel a bit sick to my stomach and wonder WHAT ON EARTH I was thinking?  This is SO not me….. as I sit at the airport among business men texting, typing and talking on the phone all at the same time “about moving 3 million to  account 335″ I realize I am totally out of my comfort zone.

Wish me luck… I am scared out my mind!  I will try to keep you updated about my trip :)

What is it…. I flash of light, a bird or maybe a plane?

Nope just my one year old who discovered my accounting files, and when you shake the folders in the air they make a cool sound.

I wish I thought accounting was as much fun as he does :)

mommy moment

What is a  Mommy Moment, click here

Having Paulin in our home the last month has been wonderful.  I am so sad this is his last week here in America, and I keep telling him that he needs to come back…. heck bring the whole family.  I admit I was not too hip on the idea of having a total stranger from France come live with us.  But Matt was so excited about him coming I did not want to say no.  It was apparent after our first day what a sweet boy he is, and it has been an honor to share our home with him.

The past month has been crazy busy we have had every day packed full of fun things to try and show him America in only 5 weeks.  Many of them simple things like going the Farmers Market, going to the mall and riding the escalator, swimming at the neighbors pool, going down the “redneck water slide” made out of billboards, neighborhood BBQ’s, ice blocking,  shooting, movies, rodeo’s,  church and much more.   I think this may just be the best summer our family has ever had and we did not even go on vacation this year.  I have been thinking a lot about why.   Most of these things were FREE or did not cost much.  So what has brought so much joy into our summer?

At church a few months ago one of the speakers said that LOVE is spelled T-I-M-E.  He was so right… I think that has been the key to the joy we have felt this summer.  We have simply been taking more “time” with your children.  Normally it is a tragedy or close call that wakes you up and gives you the reminder to stop and enjoy life.  But this summer instead I simply feel uplifted and inspired to try and continue to  give our children more time.

Our summer has been packed with fun activities to help Paulin to discover America in 5 short weeks.  One of the things on his wish list was to go shopping, so this week we took him to the Boise Mall.  He found lots of thing he liked but did not really like the price, $39 for a shirt was a little more than this 16 year old wanted to spend.  Ahhh I knew I loved this boy for a reason, he fits right in to this thrifty family. :)

So today I took him to Other Mothers/ Trendy Trades in Nampa for there huge BUY ONE GET ONE FREE pink tag sale 7/30 TODAY ONLY.  I was not sure how he would feel about shopping there, but he found several things he liked.  Then when he noticed the prices he was really excited! He said “this store is good, I like”.  He was able to get 3 shirts, a pair of shorts and a belt with the BOGO sale all for only $10.97!

If you are local you still have time to see what thrifty deals you can find.

I just got back from a late night trip to Albertsons, why you may ask???

Remember last night they announced on their facebook page that there are going to be twice the value coupons this weekend, and they will be coming to Montana and Wyoming too!  So of course that means I had to go see what thrifty coupon match ups I could find for you  all. I soon realized I was more tired then I thought, and  found myself just staring at the shelves wandering around like a lost puppy.  Not so sure I got very many deals….. but I did end up with this snazzy picture of my feet that I had no idea I took.  Dang I am talented…LOL.

Good Night All… it is 12:32 and I am calling it a night :)
