Maracas Made From Plastic Eggs, Recycle Those Easter Eggs!

If you have kids and do any sort of Easter egg hunt you probably have an abundance of these little guys around the house right after Easter, am I right?  They seem to multiply! Last year I was so excited because I thought we used the last of ours at a family egg hunt.  I didn’t consider that my kids were also participating and we brought home just as many as we took!  Oh well, you might be glad you have extra because now you can make these!

You will need:

plastic eggs

plastic spoons

washi or duck tape

beans, rice, gravel, something to place in your eggs

These are great because they don’t require a trip to the store.  Use what you have and they will be perfect! You will need 2 spoons for every 1 plastic egg.

Begin by putting some of your filler inside your egg.  I used beans because I had them already and they are super inexpensive.  I didn’t fill them very full, you want the beans to be able to move around.  So i filled one half of an egg about half way.  Feel free to experiment and see if different fillings change the sound of the maraca!

Make sure your egg is shut all the way.  You want to be sure you are using an egg that will close all the way, sometimes these eggs like to come apart on their own, don’t use one of those.

Once you have filled it and shut it, place it between two plastic spoons and wrap a few times in your washi tape.

That is it!  Wasn’t that easy?  I thought this would be great for a preschool group or a church nursery.  As long as you keep an eye to make sure they are not opening them.

Enjoy your new instruments!

Carrot Cupcakes with oreo DIRT topping, Oh my goodness how fun are these.... Cupcakes for kids, #easter, #SpringCarrot and  Oreo Cookie “DIRT” cupcakes

Are you having a garden party, or maybe a spring fling or Easter party. What ever the occasion might be these, Carrot and Oreo Cookie Dirt cupcakes are sure to be a hit! They are simple to make and turn out SO cute.

You will need
  •  24 cupcakes (I just used the box mix)
  • White frosting
  • 12 Oreo cookies crushed
  • 36 orange Starburst
  • Bag of Rips candy (green for the carrot top)

Put Oreo cookies into a ziploc bag, crush them with a rolling pin. Pour the cookie crumbs out onto a plate.  Next frost your cupcakes, roll the freshly frosted cupcakes in the cookie crumbs. Repeat until all 24 cupcakes are frosted and have cookie crumbs on top.

Next step is to make the candy carrots.  They are MUCH easier to work with when they are warm.  I heated up a rice bag in the microwave and set them on it to get them warm.  You could microwave them for a few seconds but you need to be VERY careful cause the hot candy can burn you (that is why I went with the rice bag method).

Cut your Starburst in half. Flatten the top of one end and make the other end pointed. On the flattened end add some green Rips, wrap the flattened end around the Rips and then roll the whole thing to form a carrot shape.  Place carrot on top of cupcake and you have an adorable treat.

Easter egg craft ~ great kids activity, #craft,,#kids, #Easter, #easteregg, #thrifty, #egg,#paper, #recycle

Easter Egg Craft ~ Great Kids Craft

Looking for a quick craft that the kids can do when they are stuck inside on a rainy spring day?  Maybe you have a lot of paper scraps laying around that you are looking for a creative way to use up.  This is perfect for both of those!

You will need

2 copies of an egg print out (find a coloring sheet of an egg and that will work perfect.  Its ok if it isn’t plain, you will be cutting one out and gluing over the other one anyway)

patterned paper scraps

scissors

glue

Begin by cutting your scraps of paper into thin strips.  They don’t have to be straight or even the same size.  If you don’t have any scraps of paper around, you should be able to find some cheap paper even at the dollar store.

Now, take one of your egg printouts and cut it out.  DO NOT CUT THE OUTSIDE OF THE PAPER.  Only cut the egg out of the middle.  Leaving a sort of egg shaped frame.  Lay that one aside, you are done with it for now.

Now take your scraps and glue them to the top of the other coloring sheet that you didn’t cut out.  It doesn’t have to be perfect, they can even overlap.

Doesn’t look like much at this point, but it will!  Once you are done gluing the strips down, take your egg frame you made and glue it on top.

There you have it!  A great craft that is perfect for Easter or for a rainy day!  Doesn’t it look lovely?
