Canning peaches with my daughter, #FamilyGrowing up we canned EVERY YEAR.  We canned just about everything you could think of, hundred of jars of fruit and vegetables were preserved then enjoyed all year long.  Even when I was little I had a job to do, as part of the canning.  Mom made sure all my brothers and sisters knew how to can.  I admit I grew to HATE canning as a teenager. I would have much rather been out playing with my friends.  BUT now that I am grown I am so glad my Mom took the time to teach me these skills.Canning peaches with my daughter, #FamilyI have never canned with my own kids… but this year I decided it was time to teach them what my Mom taught me.  I was worried they might give me a hard time and not like canning.  I was very happy to see they LOVED it, every step of the way they were smiling.  Skinning, slicing, putting them in jars and even processing them.   Made me happy to see how much they enjoyed it…  we only did 29 quarts and 8 pints.  But we enjoyed it and I am looking forward to canning with them again next year.Canning peaches with my daughter, #Family

SO THIS JUST HAPPENED…. (and this is why our hot tub is filled with BALLS not water). I heard Madilyn cry, went to her swing it was empty (she was sleeping). I felt a little panicked…. I follow her faint cry and find her in the BALL PIT, I only could see her little eyes. Big Brother Maveric and his buddy thought it would be fun to let her play with them. Glad I snagged her before she sunk to the bottom…. Feeling a little sick to my stomach. Maveric did not realize he did anything wrong, we as just trying to play with her…. but ACKKKKKKK freaked me out.

Wonder why I have a photo of it… I happened to be taking photos for the blog of a recipe and had the camera around my neck.  Figured I would snap a photo.  After all she was not in danger, and in 10 years we can all laugh about the day big brother put little sister in the ball pit.

Baby watching tvMy 7 year old LOVES her baby sister.  She totes her around the house like a baby doll.  She was being fussy yesterday, then her eye caught a gimps of the tv screen and she was instantly quite.  My 7 year old was AMAZED, and giggled as her little sister watched the football game with her big brother for a few minutes.  She then looked up at me and said, ” MOM, you have to put this on your blog.  This is a really good tip… Tell all the ladies if your baby is crying put them in front of the TV and they will be happy.  ALL babies should watch TV.”

I laughed and told her, I was pretty sure I would get some nasty comments if I told people to put their babies in front of the TV.  But she insisted that you all NEED to know and would love the idea.

SO…. Dear A Thrifty Mom Readers, my 7 year old wants you all to know TV is awesome for babies.

LOL…. got to love kids :)

spiderman on the cat standWe had  family and friends over to our house yesterday after we blessed our new baby Madilyn at church.  The parents were in the kitchen talking, the girls where upstairs playing dress up and the boys were in the family room playing Xbox.  But I could not find my 4 year old son Maveric.  I then spotted something in the corner of the room.

There he was on top of the cat stand…..  Fully dressed in his spider-man costume.  Ready to save the day, this boy cracks me up.  I had no idea he even put the suit on, so to find him perched on top the cat stand gave me a good laugh.

July 4th 2014We have had a busy weekend, surrounded with family and friends.   We feel so very blessed to live in this great nation, and are so grateful for those who have fought and continue to fight to give us those freedoms.  The 4th of July was over 100 degrees for part of the day, but that did not stop us from waving our flags, saluting the soldiers, praying with our families, and enjoying a wonderful day.  I hope you all were able to enjoy your weekend as well!

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!

let them be little, super heroBeing 4 is awesome cause you can dress like Superman drive your toy Batman car around and bring smiles to every one who sees you. He wanted to wear this to go see Dad at work… at first I said no… then I was like GO FOR IT. He will grow up before I know it #LetThemBeLittle

With my older kids I was always looking forward to them getting to the NEXT STAGE and so proud of them growing up…. that I wonder if I missed them JUST BEING LITTLE.  They grew too fast, sure they are still young, but with my younger kiddos I feel like I have gotten better at slowing down and enjoying them in the moment, and just letting them be little.

This week my 4 year old had class photo day at his preschool…. he wanted to wear his animal shirt and his fireman boots.  This is NOT the outfit I would have picked for him to wear.  But then I decided, WHY NOT is is 4, this is what makes him happy to wear and it will be a great reminder of just HOW MUCH he loves those silly boots. So this little champ wore his boots for the photo :).
