mommy photo, I am doing ok

I walked in to see my daughter drawing a picture of me …. she has been know in the past to draw photos of me with a BIG frown and angry eyes when she is upset at me.  So I didn’t say anything I just glanced at the photo.  Much to my delight this time it had a big smiley face and happy eyes.  I have to admit it felt pretty good to see that. I asked her what she was happy about, she said she was SUPER happy that I let her take food to school for the canned food drive at school.  I guess the coupon deals really paid off this time.

Being the Mom is not always easy, but it sure is worth it!

girls on the run 5kIt seems like running is the new  “Thing To Do”…. don’t  believe me? Take a look at your facebook page scroll down a bit and almost everywhere you look someone is running a 5k, doing a half marathon, doing a color run or posting photos of themselves at the gym. To all those people I say, GOOD FOR YOU.  But that is NOT my idea of fun…. I hate running.  Once upon a time I liked it.  But now I feel like my feet are stuck to the floor and it takes everything inside me to jog a mile.  After i am done my ankles ache, my teeth hurt and I want to take a nap.

I know, I know… shame on me for not loving exercise.  What is wrong with me, I guess I am just lazy.  I am just fine with all you loving, living and breathing it…. but I just am not that into it.

That being said…… I ran I 5k last week.  Well I should say I jogged/waddled/ forced myself to move a 5k last week.   WHY, on earth would I do such a thing?  Was I somehow inspired to love this new hobby all my friends seem to cherish.  Did I give in to peer pressure? Heck, NO. Then why did I do it?

Two months ago my 9 year old joined an after school group called Girls On The Run.  It teaches girls self esteem, fitness and more.  It also works them up to running a 5k.  They ran in Boise at night… she informed me she could do it herself.  But there is NO WAY I was going to let her run alone, so it was time to get my lazy rear end in shape and run with her.

I did not want to do it. But if you  put my kids in front of me, I will try and do just about anything to support them and protect them. So we ran… and I have to admit it was fun.  The running part was still dreadful (hey don’t judge me, at least I did it lol). But being with my daughter was FUN, spending time with  her and running along side her in something she likes to do was pretty much awesome.  Now lets just hope she doesn’t want to become a marathon runner… cause I am pretty sure I would kill over on the side of the road  if I tried to do that:).

Canning peaches with my daughter, #FamilyGrowing up we canned EVERY YEAR.  We canned just about everything you could think of, hundred of jars of fruit and vegetables were preserved then enjoyed all year long.  Even when I was little I had a job to do, as part of the canning.  Mom made sure all my brothers and sisters knew how to can.  I admit I grew to HATE canning as a teenager. I would have much rather been out playing with my friends.  BUT now that I am grown I am so glad my Mom took the time to teach me these skills.Canning peaches with my daughter, #FamilyI have never canned with my own kids… but this year I decided it was time to teach them what my Mom taught me.  I was worried they might give me a hard time and not like canning.  I was very happy to see they LOVED it, every step of the way they were smiling.  Skinning, slicing, putting them in jars and even processing them.   Made me happy to see how much they enjoyed it…  we only did 29 quarts and 8 pints.  But we enjoyed it and I am looking forward to canning with them again next year.Canning peaches with my daughter, #Family

SO THIS JUST HAPPENED…. (and this is why our hot tub is filled with BALLS not water). I heard Madilyn cry, went to her swing it was empty (she was sleeping). I felt a little panicked…. I follow her faint cry and find her in the BALL PIT, I only could see her little eyes. Big Brother Maveric and his buddy thought it would be fun to let her play with them. Glad I snagged her before she sunk to the bottom…. Feeling a little sick to my stomach. Maveric did not realize he did anything wrong, we as just trying to play with her…. but ACKKKKKKK freaked me out.

Wonder why I have a photo of it… I happened to be taking photos for the blog of a recipe and had the camera around my neck.  Figured I would snap a photo.  After all she was not in danger, and in 10 years we can all laugh about the day big brother put little sister in the ball pit.

Baby watching tvMy 7 year old LOVES her baby sister.  She totes her around the house like a baby doll.  She was being fussy yesterday, then her eye caught a gimps of the tv screen and she was instantly quite.  My 7 year old was AMAZED, and giggled as her little sister watched the football game with her big brother for a few minutes.  She then looked up at me and said, ” MOM, you have to put this on your blog.  This is a really good tip… Tell all the ladies if your baby is crying put them in front of the TV and they will be happy.  ALL babies should watch TV.”

I laughed and told her, I was pretty sure I would get some nasty comments if I told people to put their babies in front of the TV.  But she insisted that you all NEED to know and would love the idea.

SO…. Dear A Thrifty Mom Readers, my 7 year old wants you all to know TV is awesome for babies.

LOL…. got to love kids :)

spiderman on the cat standWe had  family and friends over to our house yesterday after we blessed our new baby Madilyn at church.  The parents were in the kitchen talking, the girls where upstairs playing dress up and the boys were in the family room playing Xbox.  But I could not find my 4 year old son Maveric.  I then spotted something in the corner of the room.

There he was on top of the cat stand…..  Fully dressed in his spider-man costume.  Ready to save the day, this boy cracks me up.  I had no idea he even put the suit on, so to find him perched on top the cat stand gave me a good laugh.
