In February I was buying Listerine at Walgreens.  I was suppose to get a $4.50 Register Reward, also known as a Catalina.  For some reason it did not print.  The manager could not figure it out either.  So I took my receipt and called the Catalina company, their number is 1-888-8coupon.  They asked me a few questions, asked for numbers off my receipt and said they would look into it and call me back.  The next day I got a call back, they said a Catalina should have printed, they were sorry for any inconvenience and would mail me my Catalina.  I did have to wait 7 weeks for it…….but sure enough today in the mail my $4.50 Catalina came.

One of our Thrifty readers found this deal at Walgreens for us!

I think with the fantastic cereal deal at Albertson’s, people are missing this fantastic deal at Walgreens

Buy 1 Skintimate shave gel @ 2.99, it will print off a $3.00 RR.

Next, go buy 2 boxes of Life cereal (on sale for 2/$5.00)

Use a $1/2 coupon from your coupons.com sidebar on your website (Note: they only have plain Life cereal there, so you can’t use that $1/1 maple brown sugar life)

= $4.00 for 2 boxes.

Pay with your $3.00 RR

=$1.00 out of pocket for 2 boxes of cereal & you earn a $2.00 RR

Go buy another Skintimate shave gel @ 2.99, it will print off a $3.00 RR.

Pay with your $2.00 RR and $1.00 cash.

You can just keep on going back and forth and you are only paying .50 a box for the cereal. And $1.00 for the shave gel.

Pretty good deal in my opinion! I just wish there were some Skintimate coupons out there! Thanks for all your helpful tips, Michelle

I still get a lot of questions on this issue, so I thought I would repost it for all my new readers.
Trouble with adjusting the coupon down?

This week at Walgreens they have Ritz crackers on sale for buy one at $1.99 and get one free.
You can combine this deal with a $2 off 2 manufacturer coupon making these free!
I  bought mine with no problem, the cashier just put the value of my coupon in as $1.99 instead of $2.00, but  I have gotten several emails from my reader telling me they were not able to use the coupon.
I had a problem trying to buy the Ritz crackers tonight at Walgreen’s. I had 4 boxes and 2 coupons. She rang all my stuff up. Then as she was scanning my coupons, she said it wouldn’t ring up my 2nd coupon. She said that after the first coupon, there was only $1.98 left and since the coupon was for $2, it wouldn’t let her do it. I asked her if it should just go against the total purchase … because I was owing more than 2 cents. She said it goes per item. So, she gave me back my coupon and I ended up paying $1.98 for 4 boxes … not really the deal I was hoping for!”

I called Customer Service several times about it, but being that it was not MY transaction they were not able to help much.  They told me it was a problem with the coupon, I asked if they could price adjust it , and they would not give me an answer.
This morning I saw that my blog friend Momsbyheart had posted a letter from Walgreens Corporate office telling them that yes you can price adjust a coupon down to the value of the item.  Click here for your own copy. I will print his out and carry it with me in my coupon binder that way if this happens I will be able to show the cashier, the corporate policy.
SO the cashier needs to lower the value of the coupon from $2 to $1.99 and it will work fine. Or adjust the price of the crackers up to $2.  A simple fix!

Walgreens ?????

03/23/2009 10:01 am · 14 comments

These are just 2 of the emails I got this weekend asking me about Register Rewards at Walgreens.
Angie said…

I was at a Walgreens in Meridian today talking to some of the cashiers about the catalinas. They told me that you will no longer be able to use a catalina to “pay” for items if you are expecting to get a catalina on that purchase. They said it was new programming and it was something that just started. Have you heard anything about this from your Walgreens?

Joanne said…I have been following your blogs a lot. I went to Walgreens today and they said that if you use a coupon for an item, you will not get register rewards for that item. This happened to me and it never printed any out. They said it was due to the coupons. Is that what you have found to be true in your Walgreens?

I have called Walgreens Customer service and they said that their store Policy HAS NOT changed and you should still be able to use a catalina or a coupon and have a Register Reward print ( as long as either one of them does not prohibit the use of them together) I am not able to get this in writing, so it makes it hard for you as a customer if this does happen, to stand up for yourself. BUT if this does happen please ask for a manager, if it still is not resolved call customer service 1-800-925-4733 and hopefully all the stores will have a unified coupon acceptance. The manger does have the right to limit the quanity of items you buy, but as far as I understand it is Walgreens that programs the conditions on the Register Rewards ( so it should not be up to one store or one manager to change this)  I wish I had a better answer for you all, but being that it was not my “issue” customer service is able to help me much!
