A Thrifty Mom – Topics

What happens when Mom is busy getting the older kids on the school bus, and my 2 year old is hungry.   Feeling very much like a “big boy” he helped himself to a VERY large bowl of cereal and made sure every last piece was in place.  He was rather proud of himself… :)

This week at Walgreens when you buy $10 in “Nice” products you get back a $2.00  Register Reward .  Nice is Walgreens new store brand name… they have a lot of really good products so to get $2 back on a $10 purchase makes them a even better deal.  BUT this week they happen to have many of their nuts and candy on sale Buy One Get One 50% off… plus get $2 back on a $10 purchase!  WOOT

My kids like to take raisins to school as a snack so I love these 6 packs sold for only $1.00 (after RR makes them only $.80 each).  I got the Sunflower seeds on the BOGO 50% off sale and sour worms for a fun  treat for the kids $.79… and the Jello at $.29 each to bring my total up to $10 before tax.

Check out this week Walgreens Coupon Deals

Thanks to A Lighter Journey for this quick tip on saving money byNOT buying cooking spray and making her own.  My only question is… why didn’t I think of that :) I can not wait to try this!

If you would like to be a featured guest post on Look What I Made, watch for our weekly post each Tuesday called A Thrifty online craft fair, link up and you may be selected for our weekly feature post.

Cooking spray…another thing I can add to my list of things I don’t buy. I found an easy, effective way to make it on my own

You’ll need:

Spray Bottle
1 cup of oil (whatever type you prefer)
1 Tbsp. of water

Add oil and water to spray bottle…and there it is…cooking spray!

This version costs far less to make and works great. I don’t know about you, but I love finding out how simple things like this are to make on my own!!

If you are new to my site, I know you are wondering how I feed my family on the items I purchased for the week.  Well I do not shop like a “Normal” person I stock up on the times that are at their lowest price point for the week.  I bring them home and add them to my Pantry which is full of items  that I use to make my families menu.  My freezer is stocked with meat, so between the pantry and the freezer I do not really “NEED” to buy anything.  Which allows me to only purchase things at a price that I am happy to pay.  Of coarse I have to buy my perishable items every week, like milk eggs and veggies. To view my weeks Menu Plans click here.

Once again it goes to show that having Multiple Sunday papers for coupon inserts and for Doubles, really pays off.  This has been the secret to my saving buying multiple Sunday papers and for only $13 a month it is totally worth it!  To find out how to get the Idaho Press Tribune or the Idaho Statesman A Thrifty Mom Paper deal click them.

****************************
My underarms are not a part of my body that I pay a ton of attention to… unless something is wrong with them.  For example when I was about 15 I was in a hurry and need to shave my underarms. I saw my Dad’s electric razor on the counter and used it, thinking all was well.  That is until about an hour later when my underarms started to feel as though they were on fire.  I had the worse razor burn in my life the pain was out of control.  I had to take my shirt off, raise my arms up and ice them… I learned to never do that again.
Or what about the time when I was trying to be “thrifty” and bought deodorant from the dollar store labeled something clever like “smell good underarms”.  Only to find out later instead I smelled like a wet gym sock and my bargain brand stick not only stunk, but was leaving white crusty flakes all over my clothes and underarms.

Well luckily some of you will not have to learn the hard way like me and instead use the new Dove Clear Tone Anti-Perspirant/Deodorant is the first and only U.S. deodorant designed to reduce red and dark marks and even skin tone.  It has Calendula, Sunflower Seed Extracts and unique Dove moisturizers that help accelerate the natural skin renewal process. Not only doesDove Clear Tone Anti-Perspirant/Deodorant restore skin to its natural tone, it also provides the same benefits women expect from all Dove Anti-Perspirant/Deodorant products, including:

  • 24-hour odor & wetness protection
  • Care for delicate underarm skin with Dove® ¼ moisturizers™
  • Alleviate the formation of white marks on clothing
  • Dermatologist-tested

Dove® Clear Tone is available on shelves this month in the following formulas:

  • Skin Renew Invisible Solid – Light floral notes of violet, lilac and rose with vanilla musk
  • Sheer Touch Invisible Solid – Light citrus notes with hints of almond and coconut milk
  • Clinical Protection Renew – Offers prescription strength wetness protection with the maximum level of active ingredients (20%) available without a prescription.
I have been using Dove Clear Tone for a few weeks now, first I love the light clean scent.  It is like a little burst of freshness every time I lift my arm.  But even more than that I love how it glides on, smooth and creamy  making my underarms hydrated … but manages to keep them dry at the same time. So for those reasons I give it a solid A+ in the Mommy Likes it review book!

You can visit www.dove.com for more info.

Last day to enter the giveaway is  05/02/12 at 12pm EST time. Disclose sponsored post. Thanks to Dove for sponsoring this giveaway by providing me with the same prize pack fro review, and the ones we are giving away as well.  All Opinions are my own.  You must supply a valid email address at time of posting comment. Before sale price, price match or coupons this would have cost $104.90

I was able to get it all for $38.58

If you follow my blog, you know I like to try and keep it simple.  Sure I could run to very store in the valley and snatch up every good deal each week… but I also have a life.  A very busy life and that, and I have found that keeping it simple and shopping at one or two stores give me lots of deals… but less time shopping.

My local Walmart store price matches other local stores ads, and coupons.  I know many of my friends and readers shop there weekly… and have asked me why I do not.  I have talked about it before, but really it just comes done to keeping things simple and in the past I have been treated so much better at Albertsons and Walgreens… so that is where I tend to shop.  That being said this week I wanted to get use the $.20 off Yoplait Lactose Free Yogurt coupon with the Albertsons Round Up to get it FREE… but I have not been able to find it in stock.  SO I decided to price match my Albertsons Ad (round up ideas HERE, coupon match ups HERE)  at Walmart and see what deals I could find.

It was a rushed trip, in and out in about 35 minutes but I was happy with the deals I found… and more important happy that the cashier price matched my coupons with the add, no questions asked.  Maybe I will have to give Walmart a chance more often :)

They ring things up a little different than normal for the round up match, to be honest I am still a little confused… they took the match up amount off the item BEFORE they ring it up, then scan the coupon… so I do not have all the before prices. Sorry
