DIY Locker Wallpaper For a Fraction of the Price!

This year my daughter starts middle school.  Along with that rite of passage comes her first time using a locker.  She was so excited and wanted to get dress up her locker and make it cool.  I get that.  Until I priced the stuff.  The majority of what I could find was $15 at the least.  Not a price I was willing to pay.  I did research for it, and while it says it is “magnetic locker paper” it is actually basically thick wrapping paper with magnets that come with it to hold up the corners.  That’s it!  What a rip off!  This company is making a killing off of  middle school/ junior high kids!

Considering the fact that I am a tight wad, combined with the fact that I have 3 kids to go school shopping for, locker wallpaper just wasn’t in the budget.  But, I decided why not try to make it on my own?  The only downfall of this is that the stuff you buy comes with the sections cut out for the lock, and coat hooks.  Big deal!

I had my daughter pick out some wrapping paper she loved.  Since it was less than $3 a roll, I let her pick two.  Then I followed the dimensions from the package of the premade stuff.  I cut two rectangles of each pattern in each dimension.  The depth is wider than the  width so 2 rectangles were 40 inches x 12 inches and 2 were 40 inches x 18 inches.

This size turned out to be way too big!  (That made me wonder how mad I would’ve been if I had paid for the precut stuff and the whole thing had to be readjusted!)

So we went to the school, where I proceeded to embarrass said daughter by hanging the wallpaper she so desperately wanted (kids, can’t win right?)

It turned out cute!  With the exception of having to fold some sides in to make them small enough to fit, it was relatively easy to install!  I brought a pair of scissors with me and was able to cut a hole for the lock section and poke holes for the coat hooks.

We chose to hang ours with the Loctite funtak adjustable blue strips so that it wouldn’t leave any trace on the locker.  I did it in a few spots down each side.  It seemed to work really well!

So there you have it!  Now you can make your own and decorate your tween’s locker!

    I don’t know very many middle schoolers that actually use their locker. Mine didn’t. My daughter was excited at first and did a little decor but after the first couple days never went back to it again.
