Karisse, one of readers sent us this Thrifty Find:
I went to Albertson’s to do the Catalina match ups, and saw that Gold Medal Self Rising flour was part of the $10 catalina promo, but also was on sale for $2. This is the lowest price I have seen for it! I came across the easiest recipe for homemade bread a few years ago, using self rising flour. Here it is:
Homemade Beer Bread
2 c. Self Rising flour
1/3 c. sugar
1 can or bottle of beer
Bake it at 375 for 45 min-1 hour, or until it isn’t doughy in the middle
-This is way cheaper (and I think even better) than those costly beer bread mixes. I like to make it at home, especially in the winter with soups. But also, for the last 2 Christmas’ I will mix the dry ingredients and put them in cute clear bags (like the ones you can get in a 10 pack at the dollar store, and then tie a recipe card and a bottle of winter ale for an inexpensive christmas gift!

Bought the flour, sugar and beer only to realize I don’t know what to do with it. Mix until soft? Rest it. Knead? Let it double in size? Put it in a bread machine? Shape it into bowls or a loaf? Line the pan? Grease the pan?
Can you tell I really never bake bread???
Oh, I am so sorry, I forgot that part! Bake it at 375 for 45 min-1 hour, or until it isn’t doughy in the middle!
How long do you bake it?
HOW LONG DO YOU BAKE IT AND AT WHAT TEMP?
