Last year Green Giant invited Matt and I to come tour their farms in Minnesota. We had a great time, we were able to see how much care and thought goes into packaging vegetables that we buy from the store to feed our family. We also saw how quickly the process all goes, from the farmers field to packages all within hours of being picked.
Last week I got a fun little care package from Green Giant and inside was 3 bags of Seasoned Steamers their new line of seasoned vegetables, in six delicious, chef-inspired varieties:
Tuscan Seasoned Broccoli
Broccoli with Parmesan cheese and Tuscan-inspired seasonings
Mediterranean Blend
Potatoes, zucchini, and carrots with Mediterranean-inspired seasonings
Brussels Sprouts
Seasoned with sea salt and cracked pepper
Honey Roasted Sweet Corn
A blend of corn and peppers with a touch of honey
Honey Dijon Carrots
Carrots naturally flavored with honey Dijon seasoning
Backyard Grilled Potatoes
A seasoned blend of roasted potatoes, peppers, and onions
Last night we tried the Backyard Grilled Potatoes and the Brussels Sprouts as a side dish for dinner. It was the first day of school for my kids so it was a very busy day and I was running behind. So I decided to try them out as an easy side dish. Prep can not get any easier, you simply take them out of the freezer and pop them into the microwave…. cook 5-8 minutes.
I plopped them out of the bag and added a sprig of parley from my garden to make it “look all fancy”. How simple is that, from bag to plate in less than 8 minutes. They passed the first two tests (easy to cook, and look good) but how do they taste? Believe it of not my family all LOVED the brussels sprouts. They were the perfect tenderness (but not mushy) and well seasoned. The black pepper does have a little kick to it, but we love pepper.
The backyard potatoes had a smooth buttery texture in the middle and were really good as well. My family is not to big on peppers so they left a few peppers behind on their plate. But I really enjoyed them, I think they would be really good mixed with sausage and eggs and a breakfast burrito!
Frozen veggies can be hit or miss, but done right they are amazing and these were a total hit with my family!
These Seasoned Steamers are just beginning to hit stores nationwide, and you can visit the Product Locator to find stores near you that are now carrying them.
Hopefully you’ll begin to see them in stores near you! We’re planning several Seasoned Steamers sampling and coupon events, so stay tuned on Facebook for updates.
