About Us

I am a stay at home mom with four wonderful kids. I have been married for over 10 years to my best friend. I am head over heels in love with him. He always supports my crazy "thrifty adventures". We have a lot of fun together.

I was raised on a small dairy farm. Where I learned very young, the value of hard work and how to be thrifty in all areas of life. Growing up our meals were made from scratch. Only on special occasion would we get name brand cereal, chips, or any other fancy treats. Now that I am a Mom with my own budget, the basic foods always comes first. I too make most of our meals from scratch and take pride in feeding my family a well balanced healthy diet.

I enjoy seeing how far I can make our budget stretch, and when I take the time to match sales with coupons I am able to get all those "fun & fancy" items that would other wise be out of my budget. Being thrifty has always been a way of life for me, but it has also become a real joy.

Have you ever?????

022

As you start to save money and REALLY get into couponing you might find yourself doing  things that you may have thought totally crazy before you started to coupon.  But couponing really starts to become a way of life or even an obsession.  They other day I rushed home from the store put  my groceries on the table and took a picture so I could blog about it and then put them away.  My 4 year old Mckeely was  helping  me, she looked at me and said ” Mom NORMAL people do not take  pictures of their food”  I had to laugh a little she was totally right, I wonder what her little 4 year old brain thinks of her thrifty mom some days?

So here is my question for you?  Have you ever been so exicted about your thrifty deals that you just had to take photo????  Or am I the only crazy one?

  • Yep. Check these out: http://bargainsrock.com/blog/?p=961

    Thanks for the great blog!

  • kristen

I never have taken a photo, but I’m sure one of these days when I get an especially juicy haul *I will*! My boyfriend actually made a page on his google site where we list all the stuff we get for free.

  • Amy B.

I also wanted to say that my husband is the one that does the shopping with my list and all the coupons I put for the list. We are still not super couponers and only get about 2-4 coupons of one item and just buy what we need. (with exceptions) because our space is so limited.

My husband does call me to tell me EVERYTHING he buys.

  • Amy B.

I love seeing the pictures of your thrifty deals. I do not take pictures because I am not that computer savy to beable to upload pictures, and this is the only blog I really check out every day.

  • Sarah Hofhine

I took pictures all the time in the beginning, but now I don’t so much, just because I have to find a place to put it all! My 4 year old daughter no longer asks if she can buy something, she asks if I have a coupon for it!

I took my sister-in-law couponing and before we left my hubby said something like ‘yeah, couponing is lots of fun…for her. My experience is wrangling cranky kids while she does math!’ Poor guy. But then when we were in the middle of an insane walgreens trip 5 minutes before close using the 15% discount and walgreens bucks she turned to me and said ‘wow, I don’t know what he’s talking about…this is totally thrilling!’

I haven’t actually taken a picture of my groceries, but I always laugh at my kids when I get home from the store! When I walk in with all the bags, they start saying “mommy brought us food!! what did you get??”, and they start pulling everything out of the bags. My husband just looks at us like we’re crazy, because he still doesn’t get it. He thinks that because we have a pantry full of food and food in our bedroom closet (I had to put the extra somewhere) that I shouldn’t have to go shopping for a long time. Oh well, I try!!!

  • Brenda Enciso

I almost did today, but i stop myself from doing it because my husband will think i am going crazy lol,but definately will do it next time. although he was very proud of me for buying $118 worth of groceries from target for only $29 and got back 2 $5 gift cards for my next shooping trip to target!!

  • Renee Kevern

I once took a picture of my 28 bottles of sweet baby rays bbq sauce with my newborn baby in the middle…I emailed it to sweet baby rays and they sent me coupons for more FREE bbq sauce!!!

  • No! You are not alone. Actually, my blog is usually just for family and pictures of my baby girl for her grandparents….but when I score I just have to take a picture and post it!

  • I love taking pictures of my groceries and then blogging about them! You can go back and see what you paid for everything! There have been several times this summer when we have been on camping trips with friends and we go on and on about how little we spent on our food, “Anyone want a FREE hot dog for lunch!” It drives our husbands crazy! I also love it when I get home and lay it all out on the table and start to quiz my husband on how much he thinks everything cost!

  • Shannon

I’ve never taken photos but I love to save my receipts. My favorite is three feet long and the total after coupons is .02!!

  • nicole

I think its awesome i work with 300 people and I take pics and my receipts to work to show people on my cell phone.

  • I took a picture of my oven after I cleaned it once. It just looked so good and I was so happy with the results. LOL

  • I am guilty. I love it when my purchases proudly pose for a picture! I don’t take pictures every time, but when I don’t, I sometimes regret that I didn’t. I also carry the really great receipts around with me so I can pull those out to show off. I do have a blog, and it is just a mixture of personal/family stuff and a place for me to gloat over my good deals!

  • Tawnya Pirnie

I haven’t taken pictures of the items I have bought in one particular trip, but I have taken pictures of our storage!!! It’s crazy how much we have been able to stock up just since June! I have spent more money than average in the last 3 months, but We are expecting a major change in our finances and by couponing I have been able to stock up for the future and still have plenty for right now! When my friend told me about this website and what it could do for us financially, I decided (semi-reluctantly) to give it a try! I’m so glad that I have~!

  • Samantha Farrer

I consider it a rush too! I come home and make my husband guess how much all my stuff cost. Only I save my receipts and hang them on the fridge, instead of taking pics. Although I should start taking pics. I have actually started teaching coupon classes to some ladies in my ward, but everything I have learned, is from you. I owe you all the credit! Last month I saved $285. I was so excited to have saved more with coupons than I actually paid for my month’s of groceries.

  • Pretty much everytime I go shopping I want to take pictures!!! My favorite thing is looking into my ‘storage closet’ it used to be my linen closest but it has been taken over by all my shopping :) Every time I look in it I get all happy and giddy, I show it to just about everyone that comes over :) Come over, you can see too hehehe.

  • Bev Tank

I do it all the time and planned to post all of the pics on my blog, but that has only happened once. I will be teaching a coupon class at a Super Saturday for church in a couple weeks though, so now I have a use for my pictures!

  • skeeter

on Saturday, I went shopping and went to target on egale/chinden. I was going only for herbal essences shampoo, but go so much more! When the young man rang up the last item the total was $197.89 then he started taking off the coupons. When He finnished, I paid a total of $53.02 I had to take a picture!. Then I went to albies and got the $25 deal going on and so I got almost $370 worth of items for a grand total of $65 dollars! Whoo Hoo!

  • kristi

I take pictures all of the time. Last year when I started, I was posting pictures on my blog frequently. I was so stinkin excited. I just recently put a post on my blog about my thrifty finds that I found at a yard sale and my free booster seat. I just can’t help myself.

  • Michelle

Ok, Well in my House I started couponing Back in mid June so I’m a Newbee to all this I started taking pic’s in July when I started getting the hang of it, I mean when my first BIG DEAL worked after many failed, I came home got my cell phone and I took a few and even worse sent them out to my husband first and then to other family and friends, Muhusband and my oldest son thought I finely flipped I mean I sent them a photo tex of my shopping trip, well by the end of July-Aug I could not find my cell, so I used my husbands cell to call mine to find the ring in the house, much to my surpirse I looked at my husbands Pics, he too now has started to take Pic’s and send them to his co-worker one tex said hey LOOK what my wife got this week, it’s a family thing now…

  • Jen

I wish I had a blog so I had somewhere to post my pics. Ah well maybe when the kids are in school full time. My kids spend Sunday cutting coupons with me, I think that’s funny.

  • lacey

Every week when i get back from shopping I take a pic and post on facebook, well the other day my sister said less groceries more pics of the babies…I realized i posted more pics of my groceries than i do of my babies…now im trying to do it equally.

  • Are you kidding? My 13 yr old son wants to “set the stage” for the photos! He has to get everything lined up just right.

  • ChiefExecMom

Not yet but I could see it happening. I don’t even use coupon as a verb yet!

  • Yep, do it all the time. My kids don’t even pay attention anymore. My husband just leaves the room. But secretly he’s proud!!

  • Oh, that is so funny !

I take photos all the time. In fact, now my Hubs asks if I need to take a photo of my loot before we take it all to the kitchen. I spend time doing my deals and I’m proud of it all so why not brag a little ? That is the main reason I have a blog…to show what can be done with coupons and how much you can save !

  • michele

I totally did yesterday! My husband walked in and told me I was crazy! I love this new way of grocery shopping. I can’t wait to go do it again and find more great deals! I tell him crazy or not I just saved him 74% of the bill!!!

  • Jody R.

I have taken a photo twice since I started following your blog and your couponing advice. Both times I got a huge table FULL of groceries for just under $20.00

    Thanks again!

  • Marsha

While I haven’t taken pics of my purchases yet, I too wonder what our little ones think. Yesterday I was printing more coupons for my upcoming shopping trip and my 2 yr old walked through the living room and said “oh no, more coupons.” I decided it was bad that my 2 yr old saw things printing and just assumed it was coupons lol. Hopefully though I’ll be able to pass my knowlege onto her some day so she can save right from the beginning.

  • I take pictures all the time for my blog. My kids are so used to it that I heard my 4 year old scolding my 2 year old just the other day for trying to take some chips out of a bag before Mommy took a picture of them! :)

  • Sherry B

Geeeez….Guess I’m going to have to start taking pics too! Ya’ll are crazy! And so am I! Crazy about saving lots of $$$$$ Just wish there was an Albertsons in NC

  • Piper

I have and not only did my hubby think I was nuts but so did my kids. Then I sent it to my parents in California and they were pretty much dumbfounded that I would send them a picture of food. I think they would have rather had a picture of the grandkids.

  • Sherri

VERY FUNNY! I have taken pictures 3 different times and listed my deals in an email in my attempts to woo my friends and family to start couponing. I’ve told them all about your site but sometimes it takes someone they know doing the deals to really be convinced it can work. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate what you do. And…just know that you are not alone in taking pictures and having young children who think you are a bit coo-coo!

  • You’re not the only one! Sometimes my kids say things to me just like yours. My 12yod said to me, “Mom, sometimes it’s ok to buy something, even if you don’t have a coupon for it.”

I wish I could post a pic. About a month ago, I didn’t realize how much I bought @ the store until I got it all home. Then, I had to take a pic when I realized: It filled my table that seats 6, and I only paid $37!!! Thank you for all the Thrifty Deals!

  • Laura W.

Yes I have! In May I ran across an amazing diaper deal at Walgreens where they were only $2.50/pkg. I bought about 80 pkgs of diapers – all sizes – as we were expecting a baby in June. When I got home I unloaded all the diapers onto the couch, took a picture and e-mailed it to all our friends and family. It was quite a site! But my now 2-month old baby is kept clean and dry with very inexpensive diapers! :)

  • Rhonda

LOL! I’m not a picture person at all — my kids will think I hated them when they get older and see how few pictures we have. However, I am a bit obsessed with tracking money that I spend. You know that little exercise Dave Ramsey suggests you do before writing your first budget? Well, I’ve been tracking every single penny we’ve spent…for the past 2 YEARS not 2 MONTHS. Everything from groceries to the quarter dropped in the parking meter. It has been a very eye opening experience — and a great way to curtail spending before it gets out of hand! So, long story short, I understand the compulsion thang!

    rhonda

  • Tara

too cute! I sometime want too, but I’m a newbie and I haven’t found that great off deals yet. When are you going to have a class again?

  • Melissa

You are not alone! I’ve been so excited that I have done it a few times…then I email it to friends that I know need to coupon trying to get them to see the amazing results that couponing can bring! I like the pictures, and thank you for all of your hard work!

  • Maryhelen

Ummmm…..yes! I’ve taken many a picture, excited to share and remember my thrifty deals. I even take pictures with my phone so I can send them right away to my husband at work and best friend across the state. That’s totally normal, isn’t it?? And it’s totally normal (isn’t it?!) to plan to scrapbook these pictures??

  • shannon grogan

You are not the only crazy one! Since it is now a way of life for our family..I like to share with my family and friends afar…so I take pictures when I get the best thrifty deals! (:

  • candyargyle

oh I absolutely take pictures of my food (and other good deals)!! Once you get into this couponing stuff, it is amazing to see HOW MUCH stuff you can get for SO MUCH LESS than you used to.
And my kids think I’m crazy too! “Mom why are you doing that?” “Mom are you going to blog about that?” “Mom why do you have to buy EVERYTHING with coupons?”

My 4 year old makes me clip coupons for her to ‘use.’

    love your blog!

  • Natalie

I must not be NORMAL. I totally love taking pictures of my good deals. My 4 yr. old daughter actually encourages it. She wants to get in the picture with the groceries. She says “We need to get a picture before we put them away so Daddy can see how good we did” and she has expired coupons she uses when she plays grocery store at home :)

  • Tyree

I got home so late my husband was asleep and he HATES to hear about my deals so I wanted to at least SHOW him all I got for X amount. So I snaped a photo. Then I e-mailed the photo to my mother in law and a friend. Guess I’m totally crazy too! In my defence it was an amazing deal.

  • Kym

It is nearly expected after a “good” shopping trip. My kids like to set up the loot and see the deals mom got. My oldest will often grab her camera and takes the pic. Crazy isn’t it??? But fun for all of us!

  • kristen

I NEVER TOOK PHOTOS YET BUT DEFINATELY TELL EVERYONE ABOUT IT…IT ABSOLUTELY DRIVES MY HUSBAND CRAZY…

  • Jenn S.

I have taken pictures, especially lately, because I’ve had a lot of people interested in learning about using coupons. I guess I take pictures to prove to myself and others later on that you really can save lots of money. By the way, do you mind if I refer them to your site?

  • amanda

I don’t have my own blog, I don’t scrap book, I’m also really bad about remembering to take our camera to important events but I have been known to stack the food I get for an awesome deal on my kitchen table and take a picture of it. I don’t have any idea what in the heck I am going to do with the pictures but I just get so excited about it that I feel it needs to be recorded. Yea I know its really dorky but it’s good to see that I’m not the only one.

  • Nope! I do it all the time! I post it on my personal blog as part of my campaign to make coupon converts out of all my friends and family. My husband knows to ask before putting gorceries away (although, I have taken everything back out of its stoarage spot just to get a picture)

  • Family frugalness

Instead of my kids making fun of me it’s my husband. When I first started he told me that I can’t be one of those crazy lady’s to take pictures and post them. Now he has no problem with this. It is an obsession but a good one at that. When I read this I was laughing I think we all understand.

  • I take my two daughters (8 & 3) shopping with me most of the time. They both know when we get home we stage the food for a picture and then put it away together. Last week after an adventure I was too tired to take a picture. My eight year old was so upset that we weren’t going to blog about our great deals. I layed down with my youngest daughter and when I got up my 8yr old had pulled everything back out and had taken pictures including the receipt. I was so proud of her. I’m happy and proud that my daughters are being raised more frugal. A lot of my frugal ways are because of you Sarah. I just love you blog!

  • Sarah Hildebrandt

Oh, this is so true! I get really excited about all money I save. When I get home I put everything out on the table and play the guessing game. Hy husband gets to guess how much money I spent. :) He is getting closer to the true dollar amount everyday!

  • I do it all the time..LOL

I love the rush feeling I get!

    Thanks-
    Sheena

  • Ali

Hahaha…I think taking photos of your loot just comes with the territory of being a coupon shopper! Lol. I take a photo after every trip…(*lowers her head in shame*) However, I did finally go back through all my photos a delete a bunch of them. I kept a few of the really great trips, but the rest I got rid of. I love blogging about my trips and showing everyone what I did and show them how to do it too! And from all the people I’ve talked to the show and tells are one of the favorite parts of the blogs out there. So keep it up! We love to see it!

  • Toni

Me too, Me too! I got so many great deals at Albies $30/$15 cat sale a few weeks back. The kids and I brought it all in, stacked it up, took a picture with my cell phone and sent it to Dad. He was very impressed and just as excited as we were.
This just prooves that my entire family is definitely NOT normal.

  • Courteny

No you are not the only one!!!! I have taken pictures to show people! Now I have friends that want me to teach them how to do it!
