Every Christmas my kids look forward to making ornaments. It is so fun letting them make some of their own creations that they can hold on to as the years go by. This is one that kids will really enjoy and is easy to do with a little supervision.
You will need:
twigs
twine or yarn
hot glue gun and sticks
buttons for the eyes and nose (2 black and 1 red)
Begin by cutting your twigs to equal lengths (6-8 inches works well) and gluing them together in a point.
Let the glue set for a couple of minutes to make sure that they are good and attached to one another.
Now you will begin to wrap your twine around the sticks. I began by going through the center of the sticks and then covering it by twisting around.
Wrap around the stick holding the twine so that it is going on without slack. It isn’t necessary to glue every time you go around, but glue periodically. Some areas may still seem pretty bare, be sure to go around those spots a little extra so that it has enough coverage.
Once you have the coverage you want, clip off the end of your twine and glue it in the back where it won’t show.
Now you are ready to glue your eyes and nose on. I used buttons that were smooth on top but anything will work. I just liked the looks of these ones for this. Glue them on.
If you want to be able to hang it off a branch, you can now take some ribbon (or use the twine like I did) to make a hanger for the top. I put a dot of hot glue on the top and than wrapped the twine around it twice on each antler.
