replace a worn out trampoline safety pad with pool noodles ~ Easy DIY, #diy, #trampoline, #poolnoodles, #homeimprovement

Here is a quick and easy safety tip that can be done on a budget…. Replace A Worn Out Trampoline Safety Pad With Pool Noodles .  Plus it looks really cool, I love how the bright colors POP and make the trampoli look bright and cheerful.

We have had a trampoline for a few years now and I think we take pretty good care of it.  We take it down for the winter, and try to avoid the kids “abusing” it.  Unfortunately, I can’t say the same thing for the weather!  All it took was a few bad wind storms last year and the poor net and safety pad were trash!  I am sure I am not the only one who got pinched by a trampoline spring or two as a kid. It doesn’t feel good!  I was hoping to avoid that with my kids. Since I am thrifty, I didn’t want to spend a lot on a replacement.  These pool noodles were from the dollar store.  I bought 10 but only ended up needing 9.  Can’t beat $9!  Not to mention, I think it looks fun and brightens up the back yard!

You will need:

Pool noodles

box cutter

A tool to remove the springs (we got one with our trampoline that we saved. but I found a replacement here for super inexpensive if you need one!)

Begin by measuring your spring and deciding what length you would like your sections to be.  Then measure and cut your pool noodles into as many sections as it will provide.  You will probably end up with little pieces off the ends, save them, they will work for summertime crafts for the kids!

Once you have them all cut, it is time to put them over the springs. Using your nifty tool, remove one spring at a time, sliding the pool noodle onto the spring before replacing it.

This isn’t hard, just monotonous.  Thankfully I had my husband do it for me and it took him just a few minutes.

There you have it!  A bright, cheerful trampoline makeover that will be fun all summer long!

Easy, Thrifty Gift Idea ~ Customized Mason Jar Drinking Glass

customized mason jar cup, #masonjar, #customizedgift, #easygift, #diygift, #diy, #thriftycraft, #thriftygiftidea, #giftidea, #easycraft, #teachersgift,

It is getting the time of year where we start thinking of end of the school year gifts for teachers.  If you have more than one child in school, that can get spendy rather quickly!  Why not take some of the stress off and make them something one of a kind and personal?  Don’t have a teacher to buy a gift for? How about a friend or bus driver, garbage man, a friend, or even yourself!

You will need

A mason jar style tumbler with straw and lid

Outdoor vinyl

I know I mention my favorite craft tool of all time a lot, but as you can tell, I use her (yes mine is a she) all the time!  If you are into crafting I strongly recommend getting a Silhouette of your own, you will not regret it!  If you don’t have one, find someone close by that can cut the vinyl for you.  You would be surprised how many people are willing to do it for cheap!

I found a package of 4 of these glass jar tumblers at Ross one day.  They even came with the super cute lids and matching straws.  And they were at least half the price of the plastic ones that don’t last very long at Walmart! Score for me!

I couldn’t find the exact ones but found some close ones here.  Or you could get these adorable lids and some plain jars and turn them into cups!

Make sure you use outdoor vinyl because it will last where regular vinyl will not.  Also it is important to hand wash to keep the vinyl from wearing off quicker.

Throw in a bottle of their favorite soda, or even a 12 pack and you will be their favorite!

Tactical Ammo DIY Christmas Ornament, perfect for the outdoors man, hunter, shooter in your life. Man or Boy Christmas Ornaments for those who love their gunGuns and ammo are not for everyone, but they happen to be a big part of my family so it is only fitting that this tactical ammo ornament finds it way onto our tree this year.   I figured I would post the idea since I know many of you would love to make one as well.  This would be perfect to remember your first hunting trip or completing hunters safety certification.  Of if you just happen to really like guns, this might be the perfect ornament for you.

To make this you will need:

Like I said before DO NOT use live ammo, anyone who has or is familiar with guns know this is only common sense…but  I just want to make sure you understand to only use empty brass/ bullets for this project.   I used the larger plastic DISC ornaments to allow for the larger bullet size, but you could always use the normal clear ornaments, you would just have to use smaller brass, like maybe a 22 shell.

Take the top of the ornament off,  put your pine branch inside, then add your EMPTY brass. If you got a large buck or something like that, you  could also add some of the details of your hunt on a piece of card-stock on the inside. Use some hot glue to secure the top back on the ornament. Wrap with jute to give it more of an rustic look, add a tag with the year  written on it attached to the top.

Hope you have as much fun making this project as we did.

Frozen Inspired Ornament, Melted Olaf

If you haven’t heard of the Disney movie Frozen you probably don’t have any little people living in your house this past year!  If you have, you will understand just how popular this movie has become.  In our house our favorite character is Olaf.  Arguably he makes the movie!

One of the best lines he has is when he says “some people are worth melting for”.  I have seen some ornaments using that phrase and wanted to put my own spin on it!

You will need

white craft paint

fake snow or glitter

glass ball ornament

small black beads

orange craft paint

skewer (to cut off the end for the nose)

2 small branches (I got mine off of a wicker type wreath)

black vinyl, sharpie or letter stickers for saying

Begin by taking the top off of your ornament and squirting in some white craft paint.  You want to coat the bottom, but not have it all up the sides.  Let it dry for a while and add some fake snow, or glitter to give it some texture.  Then let it continue to dry.

While that is drying, paint the end of your skewer orange.  Set it where it can dry.  I balanced mine on the top of my paint bottle and put paper under so if it dripped it would catch it.

Once the skewer has dried cut off the end for your carrot nose.  You can paint the cut edge now if you would like or leave it.

Once your ornament has dried a while, drop in your 2 branches, your carrot nose and 2 beads for the eyes.  You should be able to wiggle it around a little to place them in different spots if you don’t like where they landed.

If you are cutting your saying out of vinyl, be sure to make it small enough to fit on your ornament.

My vinyl was cut 2 inches.  Also, if you can weld your letters together, it makes it easier to apply with such a small space.  And consider using a font that isn’t perfectly straight, it helps hide imperfect spacing better!

A trick I use when applying vinyl to the rounded ornaments is to apply in small sections.  So instead of transferring the whole saying at once, I cut and placed each line separately.

You are done. You can place the top back on your ornament and hang it, or add some ribbon for a bow if you would like!
