Maracas Made From Plastic Eggs, Recycle Those Easter Eggs!

If you have kids and do any sort of Easter egg hunt you probably have an abundance of these little guys around the house right after Easter, am I right?  They seem to multiply! Last year I was so excited because I thought we used the last of ours at a family egg hunt.  I didn’t consider that my kids were also participating and we brought home just as many as we took!  Oh well, you might be glad you have extra because now you can make these!

You will need:

plastic eggs

plastic spoons

washi or duck tape

beans, rice, gravel, something to place in your eggs

These are great because they don’t require a trip to the store.  Use what you have and they will be perfect! You will need 2 spoons for every 1 plastic egg.

Begin by putting some of your filler inside your egg.  I used beans because I had them already and they are super inexpensive.  I didn’t fill them very full, you want the beans to be able to move around.  So i filled one half of an egg about half way.  Feel free to experiment and see if different fillings change the sound of the maraca!

Make sure your egg is shut all the way.  You want to be sure you are using an egg that will close all the way, sometimes these eggs like to come apart on their own, don’t use one of those.

Once you have filled it and shut it, place it between two plastic spoons and wrap a few times in your washi tape.

That is it!  Wasn’t that easy?  I thought this would be great for a preschool group or a church nursery.  As long as you keep an eye to make sure they are not opening them.

Enjoy your new instruments!

Easy Thanksgiving Sign… fun project to do on a chilly  Fall day!

Easy Thanksgiving Sign

I think Thanksgiving sometimes gets lost in the shuffle between Halloween and all of the fun there and Christmas and all the festivity with the Christmas season.  I for one love the fall season and colors so I enjoy decorating and bringing that into my home as long as possible!

This year I really do love gold.  I love the warmth it adds to the oranges, reds and browns.  It is so beautiful.

For this craft you will need

a piece of wood

paint of choice

vinyl of choice

Begin by choosing the size for your wood board.  Mine was 14×11.  Sand it and then paint your color of choice.  Now distress if desired.  I chose not to for this particular piece because I felt like the gold needed the glamour of clean paint.

I then cut out my vinyl with my Silhouette cutting machine.  I love this baby and use it all of the time!  I used gold oracal vinyl and after I created my vinyl, I arranged the letters to fit them all on a 9×12 sheet of vinyl.  I don’t like wasting any!

I used my transfer tape and applied my vinyl to the board after letting it dry for a day.  I love the way that it turned out!  The gold is very classy and stands out against the white beautifully!

DIY Locker Wallpaper For a Fraction of the Price!

This year my daughter starts middle school.  Along with that rite of passage comes her first time using a locker.  She was so excited and wanted to get dress up her locker and make it cool.  I get that.  Until I priced the stuff.  The majority of what I could find was $15 at the least.  Not a price I was willing to pay.  I did research for it, and while it says it is “magnetic locker paper” it is actually basically thick wrapping paper with magnets that come with it to hold up the corners.  That’s it!  What a rip off!  This company is making a killing off of  middle school/ junior high kids!

Considering the fact that I am a tight wad, combined with the fact that I have 3 kids to go school shopping for, locker wallpaper just wasn’t in the budget.  But, I decided why not try to make it on my own?  The only downfall of this is that the stuff you buy comes with the sections cut out for the lock, and coat hooks.  Big deal!

I had my daughter pick out some wrapping paper she loved.  Since it was less than $3 a roll, I let her pick two.  Then I followed the dimensions from the package of the premade stuff.  I cut two rectangles of each pattern in each dimension.  The depth is wider than the  width so 2 rectangles were 40 inches x 12 inches and 2 were 40 inches x 18 inches.

This size turned out to be way too big!  (That made me wonder how mad I would’ve been if I had paid for the precut stuff and the whole thing had to be readjusted!)

So we went to the school, where I proceeded to embarrass said daughter by hanging the wallpaper she so desperately wanted (kids, can’t win right?)

It turned out cute!  With the exception of having to fold some sides in to make them small enough to fit, it was relatively easy to install!  I brought a pair of scissors with me and was able to cut a hole for the lock section and poke holes for the coat hooks.

We chose to hang ours with the Loctite funtak adjustable blue strips so that it wouldn’t leave any trace on the locker.  I did it in a few spots down each side.  It seemed to work really well!

So there you have it!  Now you can make your own and decorate your tween’s locker!

easy, quick father's day card, #fathersday, #card, #quickcraft, #quickgift, #quickcard, #dad, #grandpa

Easy, Quick, Father’s Day Card

Father’s day is just around the corner, and you don’t want to be caught without a card for the Dads in your life!  This card is super simple so the kids can do it, and is versatile.  Use white paper for a dress shirt, plaid for an ever day shirt, or maybe even a Hawaiian print for the dad who likes the islands!

You will need:

2 of the same papers of your choice (Just standard sized)

If doing a dress shirt pick a coordinating piece of paper for the tie

Scissors

Glue stick

Buttons if doing a casual shirt, your tie will cover if you are doing a dress shirt

Begin by folding one of your sheets of paper in half.  Now, cut a strip off of the other paper for the collar.  It doesn’t need to be super wide.  If you are doing a printed paper that is not printed on both sides, you will want to cut your strip twice as wide as you want it and fold it in half, print side out.  This way the inside of the collar matches the rest of the shirt.  Fold it so it looks like this.

easy, quick father's day card, #fathersday, #quickcraft, #card,#quickgift, #quickcard, #dad, #grandpa

Now glue your collar on to the front of your shirt by placing the back against the top of the card, and gluing the collar pieces down to the front of the card.  It should stay that way.

If you are doing a dress shirt, cut the tie out of your paper you have for that.  If you are doing a casual shirt, glue your buttons to the front.  Now you will want to cut a pocket out (again for the casual shirt).  Make it shaped like this:

Now you are ready to add a sentiment to the inside of your card, and you are done!  Now you have a cute shirt card for the Dad you love!
