Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Marcus family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Cat Neiheisel and Jacqueline Moore this is the 100th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met this wonderful family in a village outside of Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria. They were recommended to us by their village head. They live in a small clay hut surrounded by beautiful flowers. We met with Mrs Justina Marcus who welcomed us very well and introduced us to her 3 kids who gave us lovely smiles when we met them. Her husband was in another city and they have not heard from him since last year. I marvel at the strength Mrs Justina must have to be able to take care of her family in the absence of her husband.
To take care of her family, Mrs Justina farms and sells her farm produces so her and her family can find food to eat. Sometimes her fellow villagers help her to farm her land and that is how they have survived so far. This family have not found things easy and when there are bad weather conditions their farm does badly and they experience great hunger. And ther father is no where to be found. The village chief and the villages help out how they can by helping her farm her land and other things and we could see that they were very grateful when we came to visited them. Mrs Justina cooks with firewood which is the cheapest means of fuel one can find in Nigeria.

The Marcus family was a special family for us to visit and in this impending pandemic, they were extra needful of a little bit of help. When we intoduced ourself to this family and told them of the purpose of our visit, Mrs Justina was very happy and grateful. I loved seeing the smle on her face and it doesn’t look like she does enough of it. She is a hardworking woman and I hope and pray this food feeds and blesses her family. I also on her behalf want to thank those who donated the bag of Rice, the lives they affect with this act will literaly save peoples lives and will help this family a lot.
The Marcus family I love this pic especially the scowl the youngest child gives the camera as he is protecting his bag of rice
