Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Sunday family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Chelsea Irwin this is the 126th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met this family in a village outside Aba, Nigeria. They were recommended to us by their church leader. The Sundays have one kid and live in a mud house that is falling apart. This resilient family built this house themselves and do not have the funds to restore it back to how it looked before. We had a nice time with this family as despite all they are going through they were smiling and making us happy.

The Sundays have a separate mud hut that serves as their kitchen. They use firewood to cook on both inside the hut and outside of it. The Sundays are farmers and survive on what they grow and sell. They farm Corn and have started to harvest and sell their corn. But their farm is not big and they still struggle to take care of their basic needs.

This family was full of smiles when we came to visit them. They had no idea who we were or what we came for but they welcomed us very warmly. When we told them what we brought for them they were very grateful and happy and thanked those who donated the Bag of Rice for their family. This family will benefit from having this bag of Rice as it will take care of their feeding needs for a long time and help them to focus on other things. I am so glad that we left them in a better position that we met them.
