Bag of Rice Project #22 -A visit to Virginia Nwagu family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Virginia Nwagu, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Allison Young this is the 22nd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We traveled some hours out of Aba to see this special lady who was recommended to us by her church leader. Her name is Virginia Nwagu, a widow who now lives alone with her last son. Her home was a very clean and quaint house entirely built with mud and sticks. It looked lovely but also showcased how she lived and the situation we met her in.

The Virginia Nwagu house

She cooks outside in the open with firewood and when its raining season she cooks with kerosene. She is a widow whose husband died a long time ago and she was forced to raise 7 kids on her own. Now because there is no money to take care of them the children have to leave the house to other places where they think they could gain skills.

When we spoke to her and told her of the reason for our visit she was so excited and immediately sent her son to get fruits for us. She sang a little song for us and also insisted in praying for us. She says she will pray for us and those who sent the bag of rice to her. We left completely happy that we had made a difference.
