. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Sunday family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to David Patterson this is the 235th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Sunday family in a village outside of Uyo located in the southern part of Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief. Mrs Sunday is a widow and she has 3 kids and they live in a shared one bedroom mudhouse. They share this room with others, so the room is very limited. They don’t have plumbing or electricity. To get water they have fetch from the local stream.

The Sundays cook in a semi open kitchen. They use firewood to cook because it is the cheapest that they can afford. Mrs Sunday is a farmer and that is the only source of income they have. So the whole family has been helping out in the farm so that they can plant more and harvest them. Farming is hard work with not a lot of profit, sometimes in a poor harvest they do not even harvest enough to feed themselves.

We met two of Mrs Sundays kids and just a few days ago she became a grandmother and we were one of the first persons to see the baby.

The Sundays were really happy to see us and they were even more happier when they saw their bag of Rice. They were thankful and expressed thanks to those who donated it to them. This family has been through a lot and this bag of Rice will certainly go a long way in helping them and seeing them through this harsh times.
