Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign
. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Ume family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to ALEXA BRACHT this is the 250th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met Mrs Ume in Ibii, a village located on the outskirts of Afikpo in eastern Nigeria. Mrs Ume might be the oldest beneficiaries of this particular project. She stays alone in her hut, she told us that all of her male children had died over the past years, the remaining females reside in their husband’s homes. They come sparingly to see her as they too are also in need. Her husband died about 20 years ago leaving her and their 7 children but she has outlived 4 of her kids and she is left with 3 daughters.

She depends solely on alms for survival, as can barely work nor walk. She was diagnosed of arthritis 5 years ago, a condition which keeps on getting worse day by day. She uses firewood to cook food, that’s because it is the only means known to be her. Her parents sold firewood before the civil war and died during the 3 year long Nigerian-Biafran war.

She was very happy when we told her of the gift of a bag of rice. Immediately we presented the rice, she started singing praises to God for remembering her in time of great need. She prayed for the donors for blessing her, asking God to replenish their sources of income.
