Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Sam family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Betty Pearson and Nancy Aydelotte this is the 361st bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We came across this family at a village called Ibesikpo in AkwaIbom State. They live in a bungalow apartment but are staying in a one-bedroom house. We spoke to the grandmother Mrs Anna Asuquo Sam and her 5 lovely children. We randomly decided to visit this family because we saw Mrs Sam sitting outside and wanted to talk to her.
Mrs Anna is a farmer, usually her sons assisted her in the farm because she doesn’t have enough physical strength to work anymore. Farming is not a very profitable business but it all the skills she has and now struggling with health issues. Without her farm her family would have nothing in means of food or the little income it might provide. They took us to their cooking space which is bamboo roofed and mud fenced. Mamas’ plantain farm was just behind the kitchen space.
We had a lot of fun talking to this family. They do not have much in worldly possessions, but their upbeat personalities made them very welcoming. They were not expecting us at all and were very surprised to see a bunch of strangers offering to give them a bag of Rice for nothing in return. Mrs. Anna and her family were so surprised and very excited for the bag of rice and thanked those who donated it to them and they prayed that the Lord will bless and prosper them.
