Bag of Rice Project #37 -A visit to the Chikwendu Family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Chikwendu family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Susan Thomas this is the 37th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

This wonderful family was the first we visited in a remote village in Abia state. The chikwendu family live in a mud house that is coated in cement. It has two rooms. The Chikwendus have 5 kids and they look very happy. We could not find their place on our own so we took a guide who showed us the way.

They have a separate mud house built for cooking purposes and it has little space for storing food items. They have a little brood of local chickens and sell it when they need some money. Mr Chikwendu is a security man and his wife Mrs Oluoma takes care of the kids at home. They live a happy simple life and the area they live in feels cool and peaceful.

Their kitchen

When we arrived and met the Chikwendu family they were very happy to receive us and when we explained the reason why we came they were even more happier. They had complained to someone of their inability to buy food and that was how we got to hear about it and came to help them. This strong family has been holding on for a long time and our visit will serve to strengthen them and make their lives better. They were grateful to us and those who sent us and prayed that we extend our greetings to them.
