Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign
. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Ulu family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Joseph Callahan this is the 376th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village called Umuola outside Aba, Abia state. We were introduced to this family by their church leader. We came in contact with Mrs Ulu a widow who lost her husband years ago and was left to take care of her five children alone. She currently lives with one child. They live in a bungalow with few rooms surrounded with beautiful flowers.

This house was built by her husband before he died due to his death they were financially strained to continue the construction of the building and stands unfinished. Mrs Catherine is a very hardworking trader. She sell farm produces in the local market around the area. Despite the demise of her husband she took the responsibility and struggles to provide for her family. The location of this latrine is covered with bushes and it’s also the area they dispose the refuse. This compound shares only one latrine covered with rough and rutted zinc which is very unsanitary and unhealthy. the people in this environment go through a lot of complications but are left to endure and survive the circumstances.

Their bathroom

Mrs Catherine and her child who was present with her was very happy to receive this donation. Meeting this family was a wonderful experience I’m glad we get to put smiles on their faces. They were very grateful to those who donated to their family and who helped make their Christmas a memorable one.
