Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign
. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Etim family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Lindsey Watkins Family this is the 391st bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Etim family in Ikom Ima, Akwa Ibom state. They were recommended to us by their village chief. The Etims have 3 kids and they live in a one bedroom apartment in the outskirts of the village. Mr Etim is a firefighter and was not at home when we visited.

The Etims prepare their meals in a semi covered kitchen built just outside their house. They use the popular firewood method because it is the cheapest means of fuel that they could afford. They were making a dough called fufu when arrived to visit them. Fufu is made from cassava a starchy root vegetable, fufu it is also eaten with soup.

If you notice in the photo the little one does not have a diaper. Limited or no cloth diapers mean little ones often go without a diaper. The moms then wash them off when they are soiled. They struggle to have enough money for a daily meal, diapers and clothing are often not an option. The Etims were happy to meet us and were delighted with their bag of Rice. They expressed their thanks to those who donated to their family and made their holidays a celebratory occasion.
