Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Peter family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to TERRY SIMMONS this is the 405th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met this unique family a small village in Akwaibom State. They live as tenants in an incomplete building. It is surrounded with bushes . They have no water supply so they fetch water in the stream to fill in the tanks kept outside. There is also hardly power supply in these areas.
We were received by Mrs Peace Okon and her five lovely children . She is married to Mr Peter Okon who is a carpenter that works at the local market while Mrs peace is a farmer who sells and produces cassava at the local market. She is very productive. She also makes fufu (Loi-Loi) out of cassava and gives her children to sell to the local area. These two and their children, are very hardworking people and would not stop working hard to be able to feed the mouths of the family. They can only afford the fees of one of their children due to the financial constraints.
We could see the youngest child has a hernia that needs attention on her stomach. But surgery or medical care is not a luxury this family can afford. Their daily mission is to find a meal for the day and the next. School and doctors a hope for the future.
The kitchen is located at the bush fenced with bamboo sticks. They are many firewood as Mrs Peace is a business woman . She issues them to prepare meals and also food products to sell. They prepare meals with firewood in a tripod stand. They have few kitchen equipment and utensils. They are bags of cassava that have been fermented for the preparation the swallow. She is usually assisted by her children.
The Peter family were very happy to receive this bag of rice and I pray it goes a very long way in providing for the needs of everybody in this household. Due to their conditions most of them are not able to afford a good standard of living. Mrs Peace is very hardworking and productive so I am rest assured that she would be able to make profit to be able to provide for the basic necessities of the household. They appreciated the donors who made the donation.
