Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Samuel family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Staci Richins this is the 415th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met this wonderful family in Nung oku village on the outskirts of Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village leader. We heard about a tragic accident that robbed this family of their two main providers, Mr Samuel and Mrs Samuel and we decided to go visit them. The Samuels had 3 kids, a boy and two girls and they lived in a one room apartment. It was with heavy hearts that we visited them with but met them trying to be strong and happy to see us.
Mrs Samuels sister was staying with hersisters kids until the funeral is over so it was her we met and spoke to. They use the space behind their house as a kitchen. The Samuels cook using firewood as it is the cheapest fuel that they could afford. We spoke to the Mrs Ekpe who was Mrs Samuels younger sister and she is doing what she can to help the family settle amidst this tragic loss they just experienced.
We expected to find the Samuel family all gloomy and sad but we met them in high spirits and stayed with them awhile trying to keep their spirits up. They were very deeply grateful for the bag of Rice and prayed for blessings on those who donated it to their family. I was deeply impressed by how strong this family was and happy that we could at least bring them some relief and joy with what we can. It was a special experience to be with them at this moment and share in their moment and hopefully we helped them think about facing the future with a little less fear.
