Bag of Rice Project #608 -A visit to the Jackson family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Jackson family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to TERRY SIMMONS, and this is the 608th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

  We met the Jackson family in Mbiaso village. The family was recommended by a friend, when we got to the compound we saw women sitting outside and they were busy gisting. We greeted them and they gave us a receptive welcome. They asked us who we were looking for. We told her we came for her family, she asked what happened because she has not seen any of  these faces before. We told her we do not reside here. We told her we have a bag of rice for her family. She did not believe what she heard and she asked us if we were pranking her. We said it was not a prank, she insisted where we hid the camera so we could start again and she would act better. We told her we were real, we went to the vehicle and brought out a bag of rice. That was when she believed. She asked us which of the politicians sent us. We told her we were not sent by any politician. She did not believe it. We told her someone donated the bag of rice to her, she was happy and was praying for the donor. She was shocked that someone she did not know would donate a bag of rice to her without any strings attached. The Jackson family stays in a one room apartment, the house is built with mud and it is on the verge of collapsing, the house lacks basic amenities. They do not have electricity, good water and they practice open defecation. The family told us they have to wake us as early as 5am to take their bath because they do not have a bathroom. The Jackson family is blessed with 4 kids.  

The Jackson family told us they would have loved to use a proper cooking gas to cook, but they are unable to afford that and they are left with no choice than to use firewood for cooking because of the inability to afford a cooking gas. The Jackson family make use of firewood for cooking, the harmful effect of using firewood to cook is enormous and causes a deadly effect to the lungs. Mr. Jackson was not in  when we visited. We were told he went to the farm. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson are both farmers and they do this to fend for the family.

The family was overjoyed. They prayed that God would continue to bless the donor’s handiwork and encourage it in all areas of life. As we drove away, the family was delighted and waved to us.
