Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Sunday family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to Laree Ipson, and this is the 610th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met the Sunday family in Mbiaso village. The family were seated outside when we drove into their compound, we greeted them and they gave us a receptive welcome. We told them what brought us to their compound, the family was shocked. They asked who would just give them a bag of rice without asking for anything in return. The family asked us which political party sent us or which of the senators sent us. We told them we were not sent by any of the people they mentioned. We told them someone donated the bag of rice to them, they were shocked that how could someone give them a bag of rice without asking for something back in return. The family was so happy that someone who do not know them could have a good thought towards them, and also he said the bag of rice is greater than the minimum wage in the country. The Sunday family stays in a one bedroom apartment, the house is built with blocks and it is plastered but they do not have proper windows, they do not have money to fix it yet. The family is blessed with a child.
The Sunday family makes use of firewood to cook and considering the harm that poses to their health they are unable to change it because they do not have enough money to buy cooking gas. Cooking with firewood is harmful and it destroys the lungs. Mr. Sunday said he is a transporter and the wife is a seamstress, they do this to fend for the family.
The family thanked the donor for their thoughtful gift of a bag of rice and offered prayers of appreciation. They prayed that God would provide for all of their needs from his plentiful wealth, guaranteeing that there would never be a lack of supplies in their home. They prayed for abundant blessings in their spiritual, material, and emotional life as well as the fortitude to keep doing good. They prayed for the donor to be showered with blessings and to always be surrounded by joy, peace, and divine favour. As we departed their compound, their prayers persisted.
