Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Okon family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to M&M Homeschool this is the 79th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met this wonderful family in Uyo, Nigeria. Mrs Okon is a widow and she has 2 kids, her younger sister died while she was giving birth and left two of her kids one of which was the baby she died giving birth to. They live in a one room apartment and share utilities like bathroom and kitchen with their next door neighbors.
Mrs Okon is a trader and she sells crayfish in a local market. She lost her husband some years ago and has been struggling to cater for the family since. Her kids were the high point of our day. We met Iniobong, Abasifreke and Abigail and Samuel. They were very wonderful kids and made our day with their smiles.
Mrs Okon is a very strong woman and her heart is equally as big. I heard about the death of her sister and how she is taking care of the kids, I was touched and knew it was difficult for her to cater for all the kids when she was still struggling with her own kids. When we told her why we came and what we brought for her, I could see the relief on her face. She was very happy and grateful for the bag of Rice and thanked those who donated for them to have it. I could see that our gift was really needed and will be of much use to this family.
