I am often asked to try new a workout routine or equipment. For some of you perky exercise moms this might seem like a dream come true. But for this “out of shape momma” it is more like a slap in the face that I am not part of the game. The last thing I want to do is review a new “Ultimate workout” only to announce I keeled over in the first 3 minutes. Most of my friends exercise, they go to the YMCA to workout or run a few miles each day just for fun…… Umm ya the guilt trip starts.
Don’t get me wrong I WANT to be in shape, I want to be one of those perky exercise moms… my flabby tummy would love to be part of that club. But I never know where to start. If I go to the gym I would have to buy workout clothes and shoes, as well as a gym membership. Oh ya, and once in the gym I would need to have some sort of natural grace or coordination so I don’t injure myself. Well I am 32 years old and still as clumsy and awkward as I was as a 5 year old, so “strutting my stuff” in front of a group is NOT my idea of fun. If I am going to injure myself while attempting to do a “squat, hop, kick” I would prefer it to be in my own home… where the only one laughing at me are my kids.
So when the folks at BeachBody Workout asked if I would like to do a review on the 10-Minute Trainer DVD Workout
The package arrived and it sat on my desk for 3 weeks… I admit I was scared to even try it. What if I was so out of shape I couldn’t even handle 10 minutes. Then one day, I declared, “TODAY is the day!” I busted that thing open and popped it into the DVD player. I did not even change my clothes, just decided to go for it. I had my two youngest kids do it with me and they thought it was awesome.
We started out with the 2 minute warm up….ok that was not to bad, quick easy and I am still upright so lets move on to the first 10 minutes. I decided to do the Cardio. Each minute you work on a new exercise, and you watch the clock count down. I really liked that I knew each task was only going to last a minute then we would switch to another one. I liked mixing it up it made the 10 minutes fly by.
About minute 6 my teeth went numb and I realized HOLY SMOKES I am out of shape. Sure glad my kids were the only ones there to witness how pathetic I must have looked. But I pushed through and did my full ten minutes. Plus the 2 minutes cool down. Then I flopped on the floor to try and stop breathing like a dog on a hot summer day. Ya tongue hanging out, drool and a little cross eyed… this is what exercise does to me. Yet another reason the gym is not such a good idea lol.
After I picked myself up off the floor I was surprised that I actually was not that tired. I actually felt pretty darn good and was excited to do it again tomorrow. Day 2 I did the 2 minute warm up and the cardio DVD again… but on day 2 my legs and arms felt heavy and stiff from working out the day before, BUT I made it. Day 3 went much the same, but seemed to go much quicker.
Day 4 I decided to add 10 minutes of yoga as well. I should have done that from the beginning it was an easy way to transition. Yes, it was work but after I was done I didn’t have to lay on the floor for 10 minutes to recover. I have found it is rather easy to fit 20 minutes into my day to work out. I have even done it at midnight before I went to bed… It is still hard but I know if I keep at it, someday I will be able to breeze right through it.
Please note that my goal is NOT to lose weight instead just to tone, be heart healthy and I hope to gain more energy.
Thanks again to BeachBody for letting me review this program, I love it and feel it is a great fit for my lifestyle. I was not paid for this post and all opinions are my own.
