Have you ever tasted something and thought “man this is good, but I bet it is hard to make”…. well that is just what I thought when I tasted this amazing Caramel Apple Popcorn BEFORE I found out it was made with Pillsbury Frosting.  I was SHOCKED that the recipe was SO EASY and finger licking good! It made them think…. why didn’t I think of that!  You have got to give this recipe a try!

I tasted this recipe when I visited the Smuckers headquarters in Ohio not long ago.  They are so creative at turning the things you have in your pantry into recipes that you will want share with the whole family.

Cook Time: 25 min
Ready Time: 40 min
Yield: 8 servings
Ingredients

Crisco® Original No-Stick Cooking Spray
2 (2.75 oz.) packages butter flavored microwave popcorn, popped
2 cups pecan halves
1 container Pillsbury® Creamy Supreme® Caramel Apple Flavored Frosting
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 cups lightly crushed dried apple chips
1/4 teaspoon salt
Preparation Directions

HEAT oven to 250°F. Coat 2 (15 x 10 x 1-inch) baking pans with no-stick cooking spray. Combine popped popcorn and pecans in large bowl.
REMOVE lid and foil seal from frosting container. Microwave on HIGH for 30 seconds. Stir until smooth. Pour over popcorn mixture. Stir to coat evenly.
SPREAD evenly on prepared baking sheets. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Bake 20 to 25 minutes until crunchy, stirring occasionally. Remove from oven. Toss with apple chips, Sprinkle with salt. Allow to cool completely. Store in airtight container for up to one week.

    Carmel Apple Frosting…..I havent seen it here in Ms. yet, when did it hit the shelfs?

  2. Thank you Thrifty mom for taking the time to post this. I think some others commenting here could be a bit more upbeat-even if you don’t cook with these ingredients. How about offer a way to make it better? We are SO privileged to have such wonderful bloggers like thrifty mom who spend time posting things that they think will be of interest to readers.     i found the cake mix and the cookie mix and i have not found the icing.

    you are better off to make it yourself, avoid the GMO’s and use unprocessed sugar that actually has some stuff left in it that is good for you

    There is enough trans fat in that frosting to last a person a month 🙁

    I suppose you could make your own frosting but I don’t know how it would be melted down. You can air pop your kernels. Nothing else is processed. 🙂

  7. That does look yummy, but I wonder if there is a way to make it without all the processed ingredients?
