Nest with eggs Christmas ornament
I love these necklaces that look like a bird’s nest and you can have it made to fit however many eggs you want. I think they are an adorable idea. I was walking through a local craft store and came across these eggs. At first I thought they were a little strange as a crafting supply, but the idea of making the necklace idea into a larger ornament struck and I had to get them! These are so great because you can add as many or as little the amount of eggs you want and completely customize it to the family who will be hanging it on their tree, great, right?!
you will need:
ornament hooks or ribbon
Before we start, the gauge of the wire you choose is totally up to you. I am not sure what size mine is as I used some I had that was not marked anymore. A large wire would look great, but keep in mind that you will need to be able to poke the wire into your eggs and the larger the wire, the larger you have to make the holes.
Begin by poking a small hole on the end of your eggs. My eggs already had a hole in one end, I just poked a hole in the other end. I used a thumb tack and it worked perfect.
Once your eggs are ready, thread them onto your wire one after the other leaving a bit of wire hanging off the end. When you have all of your eggs on the wire, bring your two ends together and twist your wire somewhat snug so that it keeps the eggs from slipping off and holds them in place. Twist the wire a few times to make sure it is secured.
Cut a length of your wire. I wish I had measured, but I didn’t. I would say it was 10 feet. If you do this much and it isn’t enough, you can always cut more off and continue with a new piece. Now you are going to form loops around your eggs to create your nest. I held with one hand and twisted around with the other. I would go several loops and than take the end of my wire and weave it through the nest in a couple of different spots. This helps hold it into place so if you drop it you aren’t losing all of your work but also doesn’t look like you are wrapping it. It should blend in with what you are already doing.
When you are at the size you want, loop the spot of your ornament that you want to be the top several times. This will give you a spot to hang your ornament hanger. When you are done here, simply trim off any extra and secure the end into the nest. It should tuck right into some of the “branches” without even being seen.
What a great ornament! I love that I have my 3 little “eggs” represented on my tree.
Great gift for a friend, neighbor, new parents, grandparents, new couple. So many options! How many eggs is your ornament going to need?
