Pumpkin Shaped Dinner Rolls ~ Quick and Easy
After one of the hottest summers ever, I am really loving the cooler weather the last few weeks. I can open up the windows and just let the cool breeze blow thru the house. The days are perfect and there is a crisp chill in the air each morning. What does all this mean…. it means it is time to bust out my soup pot, and start baking again.
The other night for dinner I decided to surprise the kids with pumpkin shaped dinner rolls. They are SO EASY to make but sure do look adorable once they are done, and my kids ate up every last one.
You can make your favorite roll recipe or just use frozen dough, I used Rhodes Rolls that I had in the freezer. I put them on a greased cookie sheet with a light spray of oil on top and then covered with plastic wrap. Once the rolls started to rise (about an hour) I took off the plastic wrap and with a knife made small cuts all the way around the roll, leaving the middle in tack.
I then cut pecans in half and pushed the pecan half into the middle. Placed the plastic wrap back on the rolls and allowed them to rise the rest of the way. In my case it was another 2 hours. Once I was ready to cook them, I gave them a quick egg wash (1 whipped egg, with 1 tablespoon cream) to help them brown while cooking.
I baked them in the oven for 15 minutes at 350, and it was just that EASY. I had a whole pan of pumpkin shaped rolls for my family to enjoy. This is a great way to decorate your table for Halloween or Thanksgiving if you are having a party.
