A Readers email:

Thank you for always keeping us informed on good and free deals. I read today in the Wall Street Journal an article about couponing. It is entitled, Hard Times turns coupon clipping into the newest extreme sport and here is the link in case you have not read it or heard about it, it has a video as well.
I am very troubled and somewhat angry at the hoarding mentality from those featured in this article. Unfortunately, I have seen the same around here.  I went to a couple of grocery stores to get some good deals and the shelves were totally empty when I asked the cashiers what happened, they both told me that a single person had taken every single item. I know most couponers do stock pile but I would like to see you feature an entry specifically on hoarding and on manners. I know you have mentioned it in the past as a comment and most recently with a purchase you made, but would like to see an actual entry or column in the paper addressing that very issue which affects negatively other shoppers and the stores themselves. I was sickened to know (from the article) that some people actually resell at yard sales the stuff they get for free with coupons and deals. There is also a video and the anchor seemed shocked and seemed to keep calling couponers crazy people. This article was on the front page of the WSJ yesterday and I must say I was somewhat upset. Although couponing can become an extreme sport, I think people need to be considerate and ethical in what they do, even when they plan on donating stuff, some of us would like to buy maybe 4 of an item and use it ourselves. Anyhow, I know you advocate manners but just wanted you to read the article and share your thoughts.
Thanks and take care,

Kat C.

Thanks for your email. We have always asked our readers to use manners at stores. Pushing others out of your check out lane so you can get your 5 transactions is not polite. We need to be compassionate women, and men. We need to realize that if we act this way then eventually things will be so bad that stores will be forced to stop catering to couponers. No one will like us or appreciate the extra revenue we help bring into the stores. This is not a sport. And if it was a sport, then acting that way would get you banned from the sport for unsportsmanlike conduct.
