Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The following story is about the Mattew family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to Megan Wells, and this is the 567th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met the Matthew family on the outskirts of Uyo, the family was recommended by a friend. When we got there, we saw a young boy playing outside and we told him to call his mom for us. He went in and the mom followed him out. She gave us a receptive welcome and offered us to sit. She asked us the purpose of our visit, and we told her she did not believe her ears because that was so sudden. She asked us which political party sent us that she was ready to be part of us; we told her someone donated it to the family. She did not believe someone would give them a full bag of rice because it had not happened before; she started praising God and she prayed for the donor. Mrs Matthew told us she has three kids but when we visited, there was only one available at the time. The other went to visit their friend, Mrs Matthew, who lives in a one-room apartment that is not completely plastered; also, she is unable to connect electricity to her house because she does not have the money to do so. Also, she said they defecate in the open because the house does not have a toilet.
Mrs Etim cooks with firewood; she is unable to afford cooking gas. Cooking with firewood is not advisable because of the effect, but they are unable to afford cooking gas because it is expensive and the price of filling it has skyrocketed if they even get one. Mrs Mattew is a widow and she is a farmer. She does that to feed the family; at times she farms for other people so that she can get money to feed the family; her own farm is not big and won’t be able to constantly feed the family.
The family was ecstatic and felt their spirits lifted as they thanked God and prayed for the donor. They said that God would reward the donor’s efforts and that everything he touched would thrive. Even though the family was starving and in pain, they were joyful and grinning as we left
