Easy Fall Art Projects For Kids ~ Leaf Rubbing
Leaf Rubbing can be done any time of the year (that you can find leaves) but we always do it in the Fall. I think it is because we see the beautiful colors they turn, thanks for mother nature and want to recreate that in an art project. This is a great project to make with school age children or adults. Perfect for church groups or even girls scouts or boy scouts as they learn about different trees or plants.
To make you own leaf rubbing all you need is white paper, I normally use a sturdy copy paper. Coloring crayons with the wrappers taken off, and scotch tape. You will also need an assortment of leaves fresh picked, so the ridges or lines show up good.
Tape your paper on one edge to the surface you are going to work on. In the photo below I have it taped to my side walk. But taping it to a table works just fine too. I found that taping the paper helps the paper NOT shift so much and makes for a prettier finished picture. Lay the leaves you have collected under the paper, put the paper on top. Start rubbing the top of the paper using the length of your crayon as the coloring surface. Use as many colors as you want, watch a beautiful image appear.
