Kid Friendly Ziploc Omelettes ~ Top Secret trick to a boiled omelette in a bag

Kid Friendly Ziploc Omelettes~ Money Saving Recipe by Tiffany

I’ve used this method many, many times when making multiple omelettes and when you have a big family or house guests, making them this way comes in handy.  I love that no one has to wait for their special omelette, everyone gets to eat together and that’s a plus at my house. This is a great was to get the kidlets involved in the kitchen too! Picture this idea for a morning breakfast after a slumber party with a bunch of tweens. I can see it now! 🙂

Ingredients

  • black permanent sharpie marker
  • Ziploc quart sized freezer bags
  • large or jumbo eggs ( TWO per omelette, we used jumbo sized eggs.)
  • Variety Of Ingredients
  • cheese, shredded
  • green peppers, chopped
  • breakfast potatoes or hash browns (your cold, cooked leftovers or frozen. If using frozen, follow directions on package for cooking method.)
  • salsa
  • onion, diced
  • tomatoes, diced
  • mushrooms, diced
  • fresh cracked pepper, to taste
  • salt, to taste
  • ETC.

Directions

  1. Set up your variety of ingredients before hand by chopping, dicing, shredding, etc. Place into little ramekins or desired dishes.
  2. In a large pot, bring water to a rolling boil.
  3. Have each family member or guest write their name with a permanent sharpie marker on the front of the Ziploc. Have each family member/guest crack two eggs into their bag, tell them to squish it with their hands from the outside of the bag. Next, have them add desired ingredients to their bag, squish again. Get as much air out of the bag as possible by holding it up and gently folding it over, zip up the bag. Place zipped up bags into boiling water for 12 minutes, no longer. Open bags and roll out onto desired serving plates. Serve with fresh fruit, toast, or whatever else you’d like. 🙂

I’m reading a lot that this isn’t safe because of boiling the plastic bag and the chemicals, blahblahblah… ;). I’m wondering, though, if you could do the same in, say, a jelly jar? Omelets for 6 people take forever, and making them all at the same time does sound nice!
