White Castle Burger Copycat Recipe – Baked in the oven – so easy

How to Make a White Castle Burger

Printable recipe card at bottom of post.

Hi everyone and welcome to our site. We created this post a few years ago it was not planned, we were making White Castle Burgers for dinner and decided to snap a few last minute photos on our phone.  But when I see this recipe photos I have to cringe a little… so I decided to keep the recipe as is, but I wanted to add a few updated photos. Yes I know it is a fast food recipe so who cares if it is pretty or not… but it just makes me feel better having a photo that is actually in focus, lol. Enjoy!

So many grew up on the famous White Castle burgers. They are even known as the first chain restaurant, initially reminding me of one of the best restaurants in Boston! So how do you make a White Castle Burger or “Slider“? It is quite easy and I will even show you an easy way to cook them up too so you get the nice thin patty of meat! And the best part out side of taste is that they are cooked in the oven! Yes cook your hamburger in the oven in 20 mins! The patties come out so nice and flat and are cooked perfectly on the onions!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound Hamburger – 80/20 is best
  • 2/3 cup Onion – finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup plain bread crumbs
  • 1 package Dinner Rolls

Mix hamburger in bowl with black pepper, bread crumbs and eggs.

Thoroughly mix meat.

Finely chop onion and spread evenly over 13×9 baking pan.

Spoon portions of hamburger on top of onions. Evenly spoon meat around top of onions. Pat meat evenly on top of onions to cover entire pan. Then with straws poke holes close and evenly over entire meat. This allows the onion juice to rise through the meat, just as they do at White Castle.

Place in pre-heated oven at 400 F (bake) for 20 mins

Remove to add cheese if you want it- Place back in oven till cheese is melted – about 1-2 mins
Remove and cut into squares the size of your rolls

No. Nothing like the real thing! Especially when you need a good cleaning out! Lol

  2. Rose Petito Montes

Yeah it looks somewhat like one but you won’t get the same taste or reaction from it. Remember they’re also known as “belly bombs”! Lol

  3. Rosa Quintero

They are so easy to make too… who knew baking burgers in the oven could taste so good. And an easy way to feed a large group!

  10. A Thrifty Mom

the holes and the onions is what really makes it the same.. follow the process and you’ll love em

  11. Jeez, S.King. Your mother must not have taught you the ol’ saying “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all”. I didn’t read anywhere that the woman said “White Castle bakes their burgers. Here’s how.” W.C. also has onions in/on their burgers as well as cheese so I guess those bits of the recipe are also “accurate”. No need to be a jerk and bring up mothering skills.

  12. What an excellent way to make hamburgers!!!! I will have to try to make them in a pan! Thanks for joining ON THE MENU MONDAY and sharing your copy-kat recipe!

  13. My Mama used to make baked hamburgers when I was a kid. She made hamburger patties, sliced an onion thinly and put one on top, then she poured ketchup and mustard over each burger and baked for twenty minutes. She served them on a bun with cheese and pickles. Good memories!

  14. I made these tonight and my hubby loved them.  Next time I’ll do the meat thinner, even if I have to use two separate pans.  I had more than a pound of meat which is probably why they were thicker. I added a couple dashes of Worcestershire sauce too.  We will make these again!
