About Us

I am a stay at home mom with four wonderful kids. I have been married for over 10 years to my best friend. I am head over heels in love with him. He always supports my crazy "thrifty adventures". We have a lot of fun together.

I was raised on a small dairy farm. Where I learned very young, the value of hard work and how to be thrifty in all areas of life. Growing up our meals were made from scratch. Only on special occasion would we get name brand cereal, chips, or any other fancy treats. Now that I am a Mom with my own budget, the basic foods always comes first. I too make most of our meals from scratch and take pride in feeding my family a well balanced healthy diet.

I enjoy seeing how far I can make our budget stretch, and when I take the time to match sales with coupons I am able to get all those "fun & fancy" items that would other wise be out of my budget. Being thrifty has always been a way of life for me, but it has also become a real joy.

Albertsons Doubles in Todays Sunday Paper

albertsonsIn Sundays paper you should find a single page Albertsons ad, and on the bottom of it is 3 twice the value coupons. You can use 3 twice the value (double coupons) per family per shopping trip.  They will double any coupon up to the value of $1.00 making that coupon twice its value.  SO if you use a .75 cent coupon it will double up to $1.50 or if you use a $1.00 coupon it will double to $2.00.  They will not double a coupon for $1.01 or more. They will not double a coupon that says do not double, or not subject to doubling.

Being that I was so sick this week I did not do my normal match up. SO if you have any double ideas please pass them along and I will be happy to post them.

In regards to thawing frozen cheese, this is how it’s done so it doesn’t crumble.

It needs to be thawed on a counter top for 24 hours – just at regular room temperature. Then you put it in the refrigerator for 12 to 24 hours.

It’s ready to go and cuts like it’s never been frozen.

  • Yes it gets crumbly when you freeze it….so you just need to use it in cooking.

How do you stock up on cheese? I tried to freeze it before and then it chunks off and you cant cut it.

Albertson’s says that they will double any coupon as long as it is not over $1, I would talk to the store manager if the cashier tells you they wont. Today I saw Hefty Fresh Extend were 2 for $4 and I had $1 off 1, so I got them for free and the refrigerated Buitolli pasta is $2.29 so with $1/1 doubled it was .29 also Crunch and Munch is 10 for $10 and there were .35/1 coupons recently which made them .30.(My fiance loves these) and lastly Bumblebee premium fillets were $2.09 so $1 off coupon made these .09. Going back tomorrow to see what else I can find. Love doubles week!

I found a great deal on Purex 3-in-1 sheets. Albertson’s (5 Mile and Overland)has the lowest price I’ve seen. 4.49 in-store sale. I used my $1 coupons and my Albertson’s doublers and snagged these for 2.49 each. They are great for my college kids! (I was really frugal and bought the refill instead of the starter pack and got 4 more sheets than the starter. I will store in a ziplock bag in case the kit keeps them from drying out)

I am excited because when I went to change my oil today I noticed a stack of papers. After talking to the guys, they gave me all of the doublers because they just recycle them. So, I have lots of shopping to do in the next few days. :) I used the cheese coupons today at the State/Glenwood store with no problems. Happy counponing to all.

I just wanted to comment on the previous posters comment about using the $1/1 Lighthouse coupons. My sister and I tried using them today with doubles and after the cashier carefully examined my coupons, she read at the bottom where is says not to double so she wouldn’t. If the cashier is nice and doesn’t notice, that would be great. But just wanted to give you a heads up on that coupon so you’re aware:)

  • I always pull up your blog on Sunday to check if there are doublers out there. Many times when you get them, I don’t have them in The Oregonian. But when you say it’s the one page ad, I know the store will have them for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Thanks! Didn’t see any hiding in the first section of the paper either, but when it’s the one page ad we must just not get them. I’ve been holding off on my shopping until Mondays and Tuesdays, just because the doublers only seem to show up then. Good deal and thank you. Glad to see you must be feeling better and belated congrats on your new home!

I have two sets of doublers so this is how I plan to use them:

Transaction 1: 3 Lighthouse Caramel Dips, on sale for 2/$5. I have 3 coupons for $1 off 1 any lighthouse product so they will be so I will get the three for $1.50.

Transaction 2: 2 Lighthouse Cider again 2/$5.00 and I have a coupon for $1.00 off two that I printed out so they will be 2/$3.00.
2 Nestle Halloween Cookie Dough 2.49 each according to PYP and I have 2 $1 off 1 that I printed out so they will be .49 each
I also have a coupon for a free four pack of Yoplait Fiber one yogurt that I’ll be using for morning breakfast/snack at school.
So I will be getting 3 caramel dips, 2 Ciders, 2 Holiday cookies and 1 4 pack yogurt for around $6 if I’m doing my math right. I love Doubler Weeks

The last checker I had at Alb. told me they won’t take the yogurt and cheese coupons anymore because they don’t list a specific brand. Has anyone else heard this?

  • Awesome deal…now it’s just too bad I’ll only have two of those coupons! :( Sad…

The Special K bars are on sale for $2.50. Coupons.com has a coupon for $1/1, double that and pay only $.50 each. Look for a coupon for $.75/1 for the chocolatey pretzel Special K Bars. There’s also a coupon for $1/1 Special K Crackers. Double it to pay only $.50 each.
