Would you be willing to share with the world what your kids are eating for snack time? Teaching kids healthy choices and eating habits while they’re young is worth the time and effort. I will be taking the Ziploc® Brand challenge to Bare Yourself in Public—Tweet What You Eat (sharing what my kids are eating for snack time everyday good or bad).
Would you like to take the challenge with me: How committed are you to eating healthy? Committed enough to be held accountable in social media? Take the Twitter challenge and tweet pictures of everything you eat for a week, use this hashtag #tweetyoureats. Chances are if you are embarrassed to tweet, then you probably should not be eating it. Below are some great tips for healthy snack time choices.
What does snack time look like at your house? Is it full of sugars and processed foods or full of healthy fresh choices? Many of you know I am 5 months pregnant, and because of low blood pressure I get dizzy and tired. My doctor suggested I make sure I eat at least 2 healthy snack options in between my normal meals. As a busy mom of 4 (soon to be 5) it is important to make sure snack time is quick and easy for both the kids and myself.
TIP~ Take a few minutes and divide your healthy snacks into Ziploc® Brand snack bags or containers. That way if the kids are hungry they can grab their own snack and have lots of healthy options to pick from that are ready for them to eat. They are also great for a busy day, running errands or playing at the park. Just grab a few snack bags and stick them in your purse. This also helps save money so you’re not tempted to grab those overpriced snacks during checkout.
My kids love oranges but they can’t peel them, so they always bring them to me. I don’t mind peeling oranges, when I already have 5 things to do at once ? Seems like they always want an orange right when I am busy doing other things. Slicing the oranges in half then into slices makes them easy to eat.
TIP~ Cut oranges into slices, then store them in a Ziploc® Brand Twist ‘n Loc™ container. When your kids want a healthy snack, no need to WAIT for mom to peel them an orange. They can grab a few slices and put the rest back for another day.
Apples are another favorite at our house. My kids can’t eat a whole apple, so we found cutting them into slices is easier for them to eat, and wastes less food. I cannot tell you how many times my kids have come into the room with an apple in one hand and a knife in the other, “Mom, can you cut me up an apple?” AHHH! Yes, I know the last thing any mom wants to see is her kids walking with a knife. SO, for my children’s safety and my sanity, I now core and slice apples and store them in bags or containers for easy snacking options.
TIP~ Core your apple then cut into slices. Place the whole half of an apple face down in a container in the refrigerator. Since the apple is still together it will prevent it from turning brown
My kids love to help me put snack bags together, they also like to mix and match options for their own special treats. This is also a great time to talk with them about what they like, and why healthy fresh choices are important. If they want to try new things they feel like they have a voice and have the opportunity to speak about it.
After we got done packaging up these snacks, my daughter had the neighbor girl over to play. She proudly opened up the refrigerator and said, “Would you like a snack, look at all the awesome snack bags I just made with my Mom.” She grabbed some cashews and dried cranberries and her friend ate sugar snap peas with carrots
Give it a try, put some of your favorite snacks in convenient and easy snack bags or containers. See if it helps your family make better choices at snack time.
