FREE Front Porch Decor Ideas for Spring ~ Before and After

It has been a warmer than normal spring here in Idaho… I am loving it! The grass is starting to turn green, the tulips are starting to pop through the dirt, and the birds are busy in the trees.  Every year I am SO happy that spring is here I run out to buy flowers to put in my empty flower pots…. but every year I buy them too early and we get a late frost and all my flowers DIE.

As I walked past my ugly empty flower pots, trying to resist  the temptation to run to the store and buy all the fresh pretty flowers. I noticed I had some tulips pop up in the middle of a bark pit that would need to be moved. That is when it hit me… why not move them to my pot on the front porch.  We also had a patch of kale from our garden last year that lived through the winter and would be tilled under as we prepared the ground for new seeds this year. I can not believer this kale is still alive, my husband drove over the top of it with our truck and it had 8 inches of snow on it for few weeks this winter… but it is still alive and pretty as ever.

I grabbed a shovel, and dug these plants out and put them in my flower pots. They do not have a lot of color… BUT just this small amount of green makes my front porch look so much better. These plants are hardy and should be able to handle a frost if we get one. If they do happen to die, no harm done since they were FREE anyway.

So if your porch is looking a little sad and you can not wait for planting season, look around your yard and see if there is some GREEN that might just look cute in a pot.
