Free Sharpies at Staples – Update

11/29/2009 10:28 pm · 28 comments

Monday morning 11/30 Staples is having a great promotion .  Add  $25 worth of Sharpie products to your online shopping cart, and at check out use code: 96140 to get them all free!  I do not know if they have a limit, but if  they so I have a feeling these well be gone quick.

Thanks Jill for passing this along!

Staples is having problems with the coupon code. I called the toll free number and a recording advised me to place the order and call back to customer service to have the price adjusted. I did and it worked just great. I paid 40 cents including tax for all my goodies! If you have it shipped to your local store for pick up there is no shipping charge.

Thanks to Kristine in WA for doing the dirty work and calling customer service

Reader Update,

I just got off the phone with Staples. This offer was supposed to end at 10:30 this morning and they aren’t sure why that wasn’t disclosed with the coupon. The recording at the beginning of the call says the promotion is over. But when I stayed on and spoke to an operator he was able to apply the code. To cross your fingers, but this one probably won’t work much longer!

So, called the customer service, and they say they are no longer making this offer available. as of 10:30. Nowhere on the website did I find it say that, but the lady insisted that there was a huge banner that said that offer was no longer available.

Amanda November 30, 2009 at 10:58 am

I just spoke with someone from Customer Service. The offer expired today at 10:30 am. EST…. If you placed an order that did not get credited; you can call back and they will cancel the order.

after much time choosing products that are in stock etc I too could not use the coupon code so called the CS line which said the wait tiime would be 2 hrs and that the Sharpie deal is no longer available so don’t waste your time its too good to be true at this point!! thanks

I am on the pone with customer service now and they state that the promo ended at 10:30a-and was a “while supplies last” I said “Its 10:45-I just missed it!” and He said “Yes-sorry”

Ashlee November 30, 2009 at 10:46 am

I just called the customer service number and there is a recording saying the sharpie promo is no longer valid.

The Talking Turtle November 30, 2009 at 10:02 am

Wow, someone managed to get through to Customer Service? All I got was a busy signal. (does this remind anyone of the annoying KFC fiasco?)

Finally managed to do online chat which took nearly 2 hours for a human to answer. They had me submit my order then told me a credit was applied to my American Express. Am hoping it does…. My advice is to just order then call in a few days for a credit. They are too overwhelmed right now.

Hi,

Just wanted to let you know that I called Staples 1-800 just now and they said the Sharpie Marker deal is not valid anymore and if I want to speak with someone my estimated wait time is 2 hours, what a joke. Just an FYI.

Carol November 30, 2009 at 9:42 am

I was getting the expired message also. The lady at customer service was very nice and told me because of this problem all orders for these would have to be done on the phone (no online orders). She helped me with my order but I needed to have all my item numbers ready for her. They can override the expired code.

still not working for me…did anyone else get it to work?

The Talking Turtle November 30, 2009 at 8:02 am

If anyone has a working code could they please post it. Code 91640 does not work. Customer Service number rings to a busy signal and the online “contact us” queue has 643 customers in front of me. Pathetic!

Kim November 30, 2009 at 7:48 am

It is still saying it is expired.

The Talking Turtle November 30, 2009 at 7:46 am

Code 91640 does not work. I’m on hold in the “contact us” queue and am told there’s 623 people in front of me. Also tried phoning their 800# but was left on indefinite hold. If anyone finds a code that works please post it!

Rachele November 30, 2009 at 7:43 am

Currently #599 in live chat queue, down from #679 earlier…on perpetual hold on the phone, over twenty minutes so far with no indication as to how much longer it will be…if anyone hears what is going on with this promo, please let us all know!

Megan November 30, 2009 at 7:43 am

The annoying thing is that when you look at the sharpie products, it advertises $25 worth of free Sharpies, and even gives you the code when you click on it, but then it doesn’t work. Oh well! Win some you lose some!

KJ November 30, 2009 at 7:37 am

Even if it does work, it looks like we would have to pay shipping–which is rather expensive for sharpies. I guess this might be worthwhile if you were placing a larger order and could qualify for the free shipping.

Connie Oakley November 30, 2009 at 6:47 am

Expired!!

Lacie November 30, 2009 at 4:57 am

It says expired for me too :( Tried @ 6:57am EST.

Tina November 30, 2009 at 4:56 am

One of the other websites said they were experiencing problems with the coupon code and Staples new about it. I went ahead and placed my order and then emailed CS to credit my account.

Brooke November 30, 2009 at 12:13 am

I have been trying t participate in this order for almost an hour, it must be a misprint on the date or something, it keeps saying that the coupon is expired…

Keana November 30, 2009 at 12:11 am

it’s not working for me either. I wonder if we have to wait until 12 am our time?

A Thrifty Mom November 30, 2009 at 12:37 am

This could be based on pacific time… it wasn’t supposed to start till 11/30..

Piper November 29, 2009 at 11:34 pm

It keeps telling me the code is expired?

Beverly Tank November 29, 2009 at 11:07 pm

This actually started Sunday, and I just tried to enter the coupon code, and it says it is expired. They are sold out of all the assorted sets but still had some inventory left, so I don’t know why the coupon is already expired. It is only 11:00 on Sunday!

Maryhelen November 29, 2009 at 10:54 pm

Oh my family is SO lucky!! I’ve had Sharpie’s on my list for Christmas. They are being rewarded for procrastinating ~ how often does THAT happen?!? lol.
I think we’re staying up late tonight to grab some of these just after midnight. wahoo!!

Stephanie J November 29, 2009 at 10:38 pm

Thanks, they are already out of a lot of stuff!
