DIY Glitter Jar, Inspired By Cinderella, Have Courage And Be Kind
Who has seen the new Cinderella? Isn’t it great? I loved this line from the movie and thought it was a great reminder for anyone!
Mason jars are such easy craft items. I have several for when I can, but why use them just for that? This blue is the perfect Cinderella blue too! I really love the way this turned out.
You will need:
A Mason Jar
Mod Podge (matte is best)
Plastic spoon
Paper plate
vinyl for the saying (optional)
First of all, I haven’t had much luck with gloss Mod Podge. Every time I use it, I feel like it is really unforgiving. It shows every brush stroke, finger print, and imperfection. I don’t have any of those problems with the matte. Also, the gloss has a strong scent that I don’t like. I always have matte around that use it for most everything.
Begin by dumping mod podge into your jar. I dumped about a half inch in. Add glitter. A good amount. Probably a couple of tablespoons. Stir it up with your plastic spoon just until mixed pretty well. I was using a small jar, so if you are using a larger jar, be sure to add more mod podge and glitter!
Once the two are stirred, you will roll your jar around making sure that the inside is coated. It won’t be really vibrant at this point, because of the mod podge being wet. Turn it upside down on a paper plate for at least an hour. This allows all the extra to pour out. Try not to move it around (the ring of blue on my plate is from the other one I did before this. It is dry and won’t affect this jar)
Once you have allowed it to drain for at least an hour, you can flip it over and discard your plate. I did notice at this point that there were spots that weren’t as dark as I would’ve liked. However, if I had waited I am sure it would’ve still looked good. At this point I decided to sprinkle in a small amount of glitter. I don’t have a picture for you of that, sorry. I sprinkled a small amount in and rolled the jar. Sprinkling in a couple of times. My jar was a wide mouth jar, so it was fairly easy. It stuck to my mod podge which was still quite wet. Don’t sprinkle too much in as you will just waste it if you do. Let it set upright to dry for about 24 hours.
Once you have let it dry, add your saying in vinyl if you wish. I used my silhouette machine to cut this saying out. I use it so much it has definitely paid for itself over the 5 years I have had it!
Mod podge is water based, and will wash off with water, so if you do this and don’t like it, soak in in some water and you still have your jar. Unfortunately, this means you can’t put water in it to make a vase without ruining it. Use fake flowers like I did. Or use it as a makeup brush holder in your bathroom, pencils on your desk, or fill with utensils for a Cinderella theme party!
I love the way it turned out. I wish you could see just how beautiful it turned out! The glitter is stunning and is the perfect accent for Cinderella. Now I just need some glass slippers!
