Is Walmart taking Double coupons?

shocked

Donna Asked this Question, Have you heard the following…..
My daughter called me super excited because when she went to the Meridian Walmart to purchase several Sunday papers this morning a Manager told her that they will start taking Albertson double coupons! I asked if she was sure and she said yes. The Manager also told her that you can use up to 15 double coupons per transaction. Has anyone else heard this? If this is true this is BIG!! WOOT!! Maybe Walmart is changing their ways because I really don’t like coupon shopping at Walmart for numerous reasons, however if this is true I will shop there more often.

Personally I have not heard anything…but would love to hear more if they are?  Anyone ??????

one last thing I swear:-) as far as the whole loyal thing, I used to shop at walmart a little then winco, freds, albs etc always trying to get the best deal I have learned to stop all of that I use the fruit stand for produce and shop the wekly ad at albies, when beefs on sale i buy, chicke on sale i buy, I buy enough to get to the next time, I am almost always buying at a price better then wal/win and I dont have to go there. buy shopping each week only at albertsons using coupons and sales and doublers, I have lowered our grocery bill by about 300.00 a month and I am stock piling so its not like im buying less if anyhting I am buying ten times the amount of food just at the best prices…be smart about your $$ and a little effort will get you a long way:-)

megan May 20, 2010 at 6:29 pm

Also there is not a chance in hell that I could go to wall mart and buy 100 lysol wipes and a case of bathroom cleaner, spray, toilet cleaner, and liquid cleaner…148 items ALL FREE one transaction after another and a nice friendly person (checker) chatted with me the whole time gave my kids stickers and a sucker to occupy them and then a grocery guy loaded my car for me!! good luck with walmart!!

megan May 20, 2010 at 6:26 pm

I cant stand walmart and no matter how good the deal is I will not lower myself to meing treated like they are put out having to help me and really just wish I would go away…. I have tried to use coupons there 2 times once a manufactures catalina that had alb logo for a kraft product and another time I tried to buy 5 things with 5 coupons and they tried to pull the whole 1 coupon per purchase crap, these stores are a waste of time and I will not be taking my doublers there!! I will support stores that value my business and are nice to me:-)

Does anyone happen to know if the Walmarts that are participating in this new coupon policy are taking Albertson AND Walgreens catalinas? And what stores are taking the coupons now and what ones are waiting until June 1st? I have made phone calls but get different answers. Thanks for any information.

A Thrifty Mom May 19, 2010 at 11:00 pm

Tanya…Local stores are suppose to officially start on June 1st…but many have already started. Here is a post that I did on it, read the comment section for more info

Karissa May 19, 2010 at 10:10 pm

I still think if we all run to Walmart then just kiss doublers good-bye… and lets just throw all our money out of America…because that’s where BIG FAT WALMART CATS send it!

I am staying true to Albertson’s !

Because if the doublers go bye-bye it’s back to Walmart treating you like crap again!

Ontario Shopper May 19, 2010 at 8:16 pm

I went to Ontario Walmart after I was done doing my catalina deals at Albertsons last night. I called ahead of time and asked the manager what I should do. He told me to use as many coupons as I wanted. 18 coupons each with a doubler later I was out the door a happy coupon shopper. All of the items I purchased were less expensive than I would have paid at Albertsons. I didn’t have to price match and they had the items I had coupons for instock unlike my local Albertsons on the last day of the sale. (I can’t blame them….that is the name of the game!) The checker was a little frusterated and it took some time but in the end I got the deals I wanted for the correct price and I left with a car full of groceries. I love having options instead of going home empty handed after hours of planning. Next time there are doublers I will be back…to both stores… to get the best deals possible.

Dreamhigh May 19, 2010 at 4:13 pm

Caldwell Wal*Mart will start taking them on June 1st!

Dawn May 18, 2010 at 8:26 pm

I shop at Albertsons, Fred Meyer, Winco, Walmart, Walgreens and Target almost every week. I give my money to all of these stores. I’m also trying to find the best deal for my money so that’s why I shop around. I’ve had good and bad experiences at each of the stores and the bad experiences are because the store ran out of stock or the cashier was having a bad day and we all have bad days. I’ve also had some fantastic customer service experiences at every store. We all have our favorite cashier or manager. I love coupon shopping and saving money and I will go where I can get the best deals for my family. Its all about the bottom line.

Debbie May 18, 2010 at 7:13 pm

Just a practical suggestion – it helps to give the cashier the coupons and doublers FIRST so they don’t have to pull items out of your bags to rescan them. You’re definitely right about not getting the employees trained before they started this. Still I got $10.20 of free food with just 3 doublers and one get one free coupon.

Tanya May 18, 2010 at 1:58 pm

I have been reading all of the comments about this issue over the past couple of days. Everyone of you has valid points and this is certainly an issue that for many is quite emotional. I wish we lived in a time like my grandparents when being loyal to one business was the norm. And for those of you who financially can afford to be loyal to just one grocery store, how wonderful for you. But I have a large family to feed and we live on a limited budget. It saddens me, but I can’t afford to be loyal to ANY store. Of course, I have my favorites. But it is common for me to shop at 4 or 5 stores each week to get the best deals for my family. Albertsons, Winco, Fred Meyer, Walmart, Walgreens, etc… all get my business. Walgreens and Albertsons SHOULD issue catalinas and doublers. They are the most expensive stores! Otherwise, none of us would shop there! If they simply lowered their prices to be competitive, they would have ALL the customers. Despite your opinion on this issue, ultimately, we will all have to make the best choices we can for our own families, circumstances, and budget.

Cathy May 18, 2010 at 12:36 pm

The doublers are basically a store promo, so Walmart accepting them is pretty similar to them matching other stores’ ads. But I probably will not do it. I rarely go to Walmart any more and I can’t say that I have missed it. But I think that it is good that the stores are starting to compete for coupon business…. We will see…

Amy May 18, 2010 at 11:06 am

Don’t forget Walmart doesn’t offer catalinas. That is also a huge money saver that Walmart still needs to employ for it to be worth our time. If they’re going to offer all the same perks as Albertson’s (without any of the effort to increase sales)this should be a part of it. They have all the same products as Albertson’s, offered by the same manufacturer’s who put out the cat’s.
Plus Walmart had the same issue–not paying their employees for time worked, not paying them the overtime they made them work and ended up paying a large settlement. None of the employees are happy and you can tell by their open discussion of the matter in front of customers! :-(

Drea May 18, 2010 at 9:40 am

This is America people and if stores want to compete for my business and it saves me some extra money I’m all for it. Lets not forget that Albetsons was sticking it to us all for years when they had no competition. I remember shopping there in the 90′s and would pay $200.00 for a weeks worth of groceries. My husband was in upper management for years with Albertsons and they wouldn’t pay their employees over time they wanted them to work off the clock or suffer the consequences. There were thousands of people who were part of a class action lawsuit to receive the money they weren’t payed. So to the people that says Walmart treats their employees bad, so do lots of other companies. Are we only going to shop at the “perfect stores?” That doesn’t leave many, if any! So I guess to me it all boils down to where am I going to get the best deal, I shop everywhere not just Albertsons, I’m in it for me and my family, not some huge corporation that there bottom line is making THEMSELVES millions! Maybe Albertsons will get with the program and lower there prices to make themselves more competitive with Winco and Walmart and non-couponers will buy a cart-full instead of “darn it I need to run to Albertsons to buy ( you fill in the blank” and spend a arm and a leg! All I hear is ‘you shop at Albertsons, there prices are so high!’ I hope fair trade reigns, and we consumers win!

Lilly May 18, 2010 at 8:28 am

I agree with Amy. If we stop using doublers at Albertsons they will stop giving them to us! I would rather shop at Albertsons any day rather than Walmart. The managers around here (Nampa) are awesome and they always try to help us coupon people out. Where as walmart could care less. No one there knows what is going on. I am sticking with Albertsons because they make shopping easy and they are always friendly and go above and beyond.

Gladys May 18, 2010 at 8:21 am

Walmart is trying to eliminate their competition, If we take all of our business to Walmart then why would Albertsons continue to give out doublers and catalinas it may save a little now but in the end it will hurt tremendously.

Unfortunately I would like to shop at Walmart for better prices, but not sure what I am going to do about this.

tami May 18, 2010 at 7:53 am

Amy that is what I was trying to say!!! I am so mad about this, because people who take their coupons to walmart are going to ruin it for the rest of us. We have a good thing going, why ruin it? My hubby is a delivery man for a local food company, and has been told by some of the Walmart people that Albies getting all of our business really is hurting them. That is why they are wanting us to come back. They have treated us like dirt, we don’t need to give them our business now after they have treated us like dirt forever! Not to mention, Albies is paying for the ads, if Walmart wants to do it, they can cough up a few bucks for their own.

Faith May 18, 2010 at 7:40 am

Yeah, it’s probably wrong that Walmart is accepting another store’s special coupons…but in these days when things are tight-a saved dollar here and there really adds up. I think it’s cool.

annie May 18, 2010 at 7:36 am

Yes the walmart at greenhurst and 12th is taking the doublers. I did it just yesterday!

Sarah May 18, 2010 at 12:50 am

I’ve tried “couponing” at Wal-Mart for over 6 months now on multiple occasions and been treated TERRIBLE on many of those occasions. Most of my time is spent in line and waiting for the cashier to figure out how to do his or her job, then 1/2 of my coupons are rejected for bogus reasons. Compare that to my local Albertson’s where all the employees know my name and greet me when I come in. I’m ALWAYS through the cash register in less than 10 minutes and NONE of my coupons are rejected. I have vowed NEVER to shop at Wal-Mart again and their new “coupon friendly” policy has not changed my mind.

Christine May 17, 2010 at 11:59 pm

I used them at the Caldwell store tonight. However it took me over 20 minutes at the register and a CSM had to be called then the entire order done again. Albertsons is much better with their customer service. I feel before rolling this out Walmart should have trained their staff better.

Shelley May 17, 2010 at 11:25 pm

I asked at customer service tonight in Twin Falls and they had not heard of this and so they only match ads from competetors. No coupons on doublers from competetors. I do very little couponing at Walmart as it seems to always be a total headache not matter which cashier and mangager I get.

Jenn May 17, 2010 at 9:20 pm

Good news… Bad news… Good for those of us who really do need as much savings as possible. Groceries are so expensive anymore, & it’s wonderful to have options. And Walmart does have great deals. But bad, because Walmart already “has it all”… EXCEPT FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. Which stinks all the way around. Split opinion here. Anyone know about Twin Falls or Jerome Walmarts?

amy May 17, 2010 at 9:04 pm

Arghhh..NOOOO!!! People get with the program. Walmart has stuck it to us for years now; making people believe they are getting a great deal shopping there. Don’t buy into it. If couponers start using Albertson’s doublers at Walmart, no doubt, Albertson’s WILL STOP PUTTING OUT DOUBLERS! Give Albertson’s the credit they deserve and stay there. Don’t forget how annoying and SLOW it is to shop there. Walmart-Put out your own doublers if you want business! Just like Big corporate to steal it away from the little guys who actually care about people. DON’T DO IT!!!!

katie May 17, 2010 at 7:25 pm

Although this would make for some great deals at Walmart, I am sticking with Albertsons. They are the one’s printing the coupons and they are so coupon friendly. (Walmart is HORRIBLE in the coustomer service area!!!) Not a big Walmart fan….

Anissa May 17, 2010 at 7:15 pm

I agree that it is good to be loyal to Albertsons with these because they have been good to us. I had a couple of extra doublers though, so I tried it today at the Glenwood Walmart to see if it worked. My cashier didn’t know how to do it so we had to ring up the transaction twice, but we finally got it. They have to price modify the amount of the item by the amount of the coupon for the doubler, and then scan the coupon.

Heather May 17, 2010 at 7:14 pm

My girlfried just confirmed this to be true for her at the Walmart in Nampa. Albie’s has been great with the doublers in all but sometimes even with the doublers, their prices are still much higher than Winco, so sometimes their promo items are much of a promo since their regular prices are so high. It’ll be interesting to see how this all pans out.

Vaun May 17, 2010 at 7:12 pm

Spoke with manager at walmart in nampa this afternoon. She said that only three walmarts in the area are doing the doublers. She said they are the district stores and so they are testing it out on the three. The three walmarts are Nampa 12th, Overland and Garden City. This is a trial period.

. LDaleene May 17, 2010 at 6:26 pm

I agree with Tami. I used to never shop at Albertsons because their prices were too high, now that I coupon shop and get the great deals from sites like A Thrifty Mom I very seldom shop at Walmart. Let’s keep our money here in Idaho where it belongs. I love my local Albertsons. For the most part they have awesome cashiers and are very coupon friendly!

Jill May 17, 2010 at 6:20 pm

I find Walmart employees are usually rude when I am using just a few regular coupons, so I can only imagine if I were using several and doublers. But Albertsons is always friendly and lets me do multiple orders so I can take advantage of the doublers. So I will stick to Albertsons for my couponing purchases.

Becka May 17, 2010 at 6:02 pm

I went shopping at Walmart at 12th & Greenhurst in Nampa today and they took all my doublers in one transaction (I had 6 sets of 3). NO QUESTIONS ASKED! They even had to call over a manager to help with one of the coupons I had and they fixed it no problem. Saved a bunch of money. I think this is great news to me!!

Jennifer May 17, 2010 at 5:26 pm

sorry credit goes to discount queens! per above comment

Amy May 17, 2010 at 4:59 pm

The Smith’s store in Pocatello has always taken Albertsons doublers. They do however only except 1 sheet per day per family or at least shopping trip. I have been doing this for months now. They are also the most friendly coupon store!

Jennifer May 17, 2010 at 4:54 pm

just read this on coupon queen

It have just confirmed it folks!! Walmart will now be accepting Albertsons Twice the Value Coupons!! I spoke with Rich, a customer service manager at the Meridian (Fairview) location, and he confirmed to me that they will be accepting Albertsons Twice the Value coupons, up to 15 per transaction.

This is big news people!! I would call your local Walmart and before spending hours loading up your cart :) . I would also try and limit the amount you do per shopping trip, as to not overwhelm the store and their cashiers (we want them to keep this up!).

Thank you reader Donna who sent us a head up!!

Krissy May 17, 2010 at 4:48 pm

I hardly shop at Albertsons but reading your emails has inspired me to start but i was wondering do you still earn gas rewards with all the coupons you use? Walmart doesn’t do that.

Michelle M May 17, 2010 at 4:41 pm

WOW!!! I Just got $200 in free food, I spent $20 in cash total bill was $220, after coupons Paid $20 and some change
WOW!!!!!!!

Beth May 17, 2010 at 4:11 pm

I went to Eagle/Fairview Walmart with 10 doubles. It took 30 minutes to check out. They have very upset managers and cashiers. They have no training. I assume this will change since a manager who knew what she was doing finally came over, but it was not worth my time. I stood silently while they figured it out, but I think I’ll stick with Albertsons. They will always be my fave.

Terra May 17, 2010 at 4:02 pm

Ok I am all sorts of confused now. I called a reliable source at the 12th and greenhurst Walmart and she said yes they are taking doublers. (dont know about the catalina) But i didnt find out if it is all or just certain ones. Does anyone know if the Caldwell one is taking doubles or not. And I have found that Albertsons even after the doubler is still more then Walmart or winco. Then i am kicking myself. But then my fault for not checking closer. But I cant know what the price of everything is before i buy it. lol

Mellissa May 17, 2010 at 3:02 pm

I would be careful about Walmart it seems like no two employees have the same idea on what is accepted and what is not. You could be wasting some valuable time banking on Walmart taking doubles and catalinas. I asked a cashier is they took catalinas she said no it was considered a store discount. Not sure what that means but just goes to show you despite signs saying they will honor any coupon there still is a lot of stuff left to interpretation!

tami May 17, 2010 at 2:23 pm

My initial reaction was excitement but NO! Who says that Albertsons should do all the work to get loyal coupon shoppers just to have Walmart rush in a steal them all?! I think it is bogus! I think they realized that we aren’t going anywhere and now they want in on the action. I would rather give my money to Albies anyday!

Nancy May 17, 2010 at 2:19 pm

You really have to know your prices. Doublers are great to use with a coupon at Albertsons but sometimes you still pay more than you would at Winco and Walmart with just the coupon. Some of Alb. items are double what they are in the other stores so you haven’t gained anything.

I wish all the Walmarts were on the same page.

Ang May 17, 2010 at 1:51 pm

Porn at the registers??? I’ve never heard of such a thing a walmart.

Karissa May 17, 2010 at 1:24 pm

HOLY COW! You miss one day on here and wowzers!

I have mixed feelings about this… It’s so much quicker to run into my local Albies and they have so good to us!

me and my gang May 17, 2010 at 12:42 pm

I am up set about this accually, let walmart print their own doublers. They don’t take care of their employees, customers. They put porn on their checkouts and. Refuse to cover it up. They are way to slow. Please I beg you, stick with Albies so the doublers dont end.

Cassie May 17, 2010 at 12:13 pm

I just called the Walmart on 12th and Greenhurst and spoke to a manager. He informed me that this is a gimmick and NO Walmart is not taking Albertsons doublers or catalinas. He said he will be sure to talk to his cashiers and CSMs to ensure they are not taking these. Bummer.

berkeley May 17, 2010 at 11:36 am

At Walmart on Glenwood and State they have had a huge tent sign up for a couple of weeks now when you walk in the door that states now accepting all coupons. I never even thought to ask about doubles. Also, this might be old news, but I was at Albertson’s yesterday and the cashier told me they were now doubling coupons even if they say do not double.

Chris May 17, 2010 at 11:13 am

Does any know if this is happening at all WalMarts or just that particular one? For example Chubbuck, ID? Also when you say they are taking catalinas, does that include RR from Walgreens??

Megs May 17, 2010 at 11:11 am

Is this only for that particular Wal-Mart or is this true of all Wal-Marts?

Ginger May 17, 2010 at 10:44 am

Interesting. I thought Walmart only accepted one coupon per item. If they’re doing this, does that mean they’ll now accept 2 coupons per item, 1 store coupon+1 MF coupon?

Michelle M May 17, 2010 at 10:43 am

I’m going o stick with Albertson’s, they gave us Doublers when times were hard, now Wal-mart wants in because Albertson’s has become I think the Number 1 food store, and Walmart is feeling the Pinch.

Jeanette in WA May 17, 2010 at 10:37 am

If this is happening, it does not appear to be happening in WA. I called two stores this morning in WA and they’d heard nothing. Looks like a good time to live in Idaho!

Kim Wilson May 17, 2010 at 10:29 am

I called two of my Local Area Wal-mart stores, Caldwell and Nampa 12th. Caldwell- Wal-Mart told me NO! that they only match ADS, and Then I remembered I saw a big red Sign in Nampa 12th Ave Wal-mart saying they match everything! So I called and just spoke to a CSM and she told me YES! they match all ads, and coupons for other stores, Including ALBERTSONS DOUBLERS!-So I guess You can take my word for it-or CALL your local store, nothing hurts to ask- WHEN a THRIFY deal is envolved! ENJOY!! :)

Terra May 17, 2010 at 10:05 am

They are!! How exciting!!

Donna May 17, 2010 at 10:00 am

Yeah it is true!! I’m so excited and I’m so glad that Walmart understands the power of couponing : )

Jill May 17, 2010 at 9:49 am

Caitllin or Sophie, do you know if this is at all Walmarts or just certain ones? Thanks

Lindsay Hendricks May 17, 2010 at 9:35 am

I went today and did a bunch of doublers at the greenhurst Walmart in Nampa, great because I didn’t have to do a bunch of transactions. Albertsons will of course be my first love:)
The capri sun that I was buying was 1.79 and I doubled it so there was 31 cents overage on each one and it just went to the other things I was buying, my albertsons does this but I was glad to see Walmart doing it too.

Sophie May 17, 2010 at 9:24 am

Ok, this a bit of a coincedence, but one of my co-workers mom works at Walmart. She just came to tell me about this. Her mom (who wirks at the Overland store) said they had a meeting and were told they were now taking Albertsons doublers, catalinas, etc. So it sounds like this is true!!

Caitlin May 17, 2010 at 9:07 am

I work at Walmart on Overland and YES! it’s TRUE!!! The cashiers had coupon classes all day Saturday and were told they were to take ALL coupons!! Catalina’s, Doubles, other stores and match prices!!!! It officially starts June 1st,they will have “coupon friendly” registers but ARE ACCEPTING ALL COUPONS NOW!!!!!! SPREAD THE WORD, THIS IS GREAT!! On a side note, fradulent doritos coupon is still out there. I had a gal try to use one while i was playing cashier on Saturday, i refused telling her it was fradulent and she proceeded to tell me she used two last night at my store and Fred Myer accepts them. I explained to her how these stores will not get reimbursed and she just says “oh well” :( I was soooooo angry, i went to frito lay website that night, printed off about the coupon and posted it ALL OVER my store. :) I could tell the gal was a non couponer due to other items she was purchasing that were free at walgreens within the last couple weeks.

Sophie May 17, 2010 at 9:03 am

I have heard this rumor locally as well, but havent confirmed. I will say though I went to the Overland Walmart yersterday and had no problems using my coupons at all. And I used like 20 in the same transaction. I was prepared for problems, but none!!

Kacey Justus May 17, 2010 at 8:42 am

This is news to me! I don’t see how that can happen when the double coupons are rightfully Albertson’s. I’d contact Walmart headquarters and find out for sure. Walmart might claim to be unbeatable prices but whenever Albertson’s has a sale, they beat Walmart prices.

Jackie May 17, 2010 at 8:30 am

Walmart on 12th in Nampa is taking any coupon even catalinas. I used my catalinas from Albertsons at Walmart last week. It was great because I was able to buy my husband a pair of pants for really cheap.
